The last time I was there was a little over a year ago, but I took some pictures and took the time to really look around. They have so many engaging things for children to do. The planetarium is really unique in the area. They have trains in the back and even have large models inside the trains for children to look at (at their eye level too!). They have different exhibits at different times, but there is generally always something interesting and educational here. I remember there being exhibits related to dinosaurs, electricity, and old newspaper clippings all over the place with interesting stories about Albany's history. Definitely worth giving a once over if you're only visiting Albany.

There was a decent amount of outdoor walking required to go through the exhibits. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, I just recommend either bringing a drink or visiting when the weather is cooler. During the walk we encountered a friendly dragonfly, which made it worth it. The village seemed to be understaffed, because only half of the buildings had guides to show us around. For the deserted buildings, we had to guess what things did what. The place we assumed to be the woodcarvers shop looked like there would normally be a staff person there, but their station was empty. this concerned me because we had smaller children in our party, and some of the sharp carving tools were left on the tables. Other than that, staff that were present gave wonderful demonstrations of the profession they represented. Most notably, the weaver and the blacksmith. The weaver walked us through the whole process from the cleaning of cotton to sewing the final fabrics together into clothing. The blacksmith worked in a functional smithery and showed us how they created a metal hook using actual fire and metal tools.

A little out of my way, but worth the visit to see this hundred year old bridge in rural Georgia. I…read moredon't have any facts to add to Richard's great detail. Yes, the bridge is locked off from all foot traffic by iron gates. I'm guessing that this was done to prevent the neer-do-wells from filling the interior with graffiti, something I've seen done to other covered bridges. There is access to the bridge from both sides of the creek, but the far side has better parking and even a few picnic benches. The view from there is way better too.
