I always am asked why I keep my PCP's group in Fairfax with the long commute from Ashburn, especially since I physically moved away from Fairfax in the late 90's!! The answer I always give is the staff, nurses and especially the few Doctors who have taken care of me during my 24+ year association with GIMG, now part of INOVA. Juliette Singh was there at the beginning and so was Dr Fender (who has since retired) and Dr Goyal. Not sure of anymore. Dr Fender was an amazing Doctor for the years I spent as a patient, along with his primary nurse. He as detailed, focused, spent time listening (and lecturing) and a doctor who would reach out and call you at home to discuss a reading or question if you were taking medication as prescribed. Qualities that reminded me of my Father who was the first US educated Doctor who returned to his home country of Guyana. When Dr Fender left (when GIMG stopped being a private group and taken over by INOVA) , he told me (probably confidentially so sorry Dr Fender) that if I wanted a replacement Doctor like him, switch over to Dr Goyal. It took me being lazy for a couple of years before I switched and since that time, I was fortunate that writing of an issue to another of the medical staff, my note was intercepted by Dr Goyal and a test ordered which indicated a serious enough life changing condition. She is extremely thorough and professional and has called me at home several times like Dr Fender to counsel, advise, lecture as well as provide guidance. When she leaves, given that I have no other such experience with a full time doctor (the PAs and NPs are great) I will finally exit to a group in Ashburn where we live. The staff work as a team. Case in point 2 weeks ago I experienced another issue and Ms. Singh found me a slot with Dr Goyal who, probably more to allay my concerns, ordered a test and Olga at the front desk worked her magic to get me to Radiology the same day (its not the first time she has done this). All the front desk, back office nurses like Robert, Bunry and others are excellent. I am fortunate that GIMG has taken such good care of me over the years and well worth the 45 minutes to an hour it takes me to get there. read more

I didn't have my appointment because I couldn't find my insurance card (I made a new patient appointment) and never made it beyond the front desk. The staff was rude. Not just to me, but to other patients as they were checking out. I ended up making another appointment with another provider. read more

FRONT DESK REVIEW HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT THE FRONT DESK. IF I COULD GIVE NEGATIVE STARS I WOULD. I made this appointment for my daughter who is under 18, 3 weeks ago. On the website it did not indicate that she cannot be a minor. I walked in the office 20 minutes before my appointment, and the front desk lady (Hispanic with glasses and brown hair) told me that she had called me to cancel my appt. I told her you all send me a confirmation text yesterday to come in. So I asked her when did she call, it was as I walked in the office, they called me 20 minutes before my appointment to cancel. There was no apology or options given to me. I walked out furious. Update your website and give the client at least a week before you guys cancel. My review will be on other places too. read more

I've been with this practice for 10 years and have often thought of leaving but the doctors are OK and they are close to my office. The final straw happened recently when they ignored a request from my surgeon during my pre-surgery testing. Their response "we didn't think it was necessary". They also price gauge, rather than giving access to your medical records through their online portal, they make you pay for a yearly "membership" which allows you online access to records older than 60 days. The front-deal staff (the phone answerers) are nasty and obnoxious. Here's an example: On my first appointment, I asked if the doctor was running late. The woman's reply: "I don't know." Not "I don't know; let me check." Just "I don't know." Full stop. I tried complaining, but nothing seems to have changed. The last straw came recently when I called to schedule an appointment. My doctor was unavailable for several weeks, so I was offered a different doctor. I tried looking her up on GIMG's website, but she's not there, at which point the phone answerer laughed and yelled at me. I asked to speak with the office manager; in return, the phone answerer hung up on me. read more

GIMG - Ballston incorrectly filled my mom's script. A script that my mom had run out of. She is currently recovering from two emergency heart surgeries. At first my sister called over to get the additional medication called in to our pharmacy. I called to follow-up and said that a message was sent to the doctor and it would be taken care of with 24-48 HOURS. This was a mistake on GIMG's end. The conversation about this additional script was direct. I called the office and was given completely inadequate customer service (admitting was the only name I remember). No apology. Put on hold multiple times without warning. GIMG has directly hindered my mom's recovery and put additional stress on my family. Still on hold right now for what is coming up on 30 minutes. Do not go here or take any of your loved ones here. Completely unacceptable service. UPDATE: No one has called back. Lines have been closed. read more

If I could give negative 10 stars for this medical practice I would. This group of doctors and their staff are some of the most incompetent and careless people my family and I have ever dealt with. Not only can they not get our prescriptions called in to the correct pharmacy (multiple times), but my Dad's doctor called in the WRONG medication for him as well (multiple times). On top of that, my dad tested positive with COVID today and he has multiple underlying conditions and his doctor refuses to call him in a prescription for the antiviral drug, WHICH HE SCORES HIGH ENOUGH FOR BECAUSE OF HIS MEDICAL CONDITIONS. Support staff at front desk is absolutely the best I have seen in 20 years of doctor visits. The sight alone of an Olga or a Juliet is enough to make me feel better, regardless of the complaint du jour. There is something healing about just seeing their smiling faces. I hope they are given the proper credit for making a difference in the quality of a doctor visit. This heartening experience is followed through with an invariably enlightening and encouraging experience with Dr Jenkins and Francine. The provider at GIMG Fairfax location (Dr. Anjali Goyal) is rude and unreasonable. I have been seeing her for last 17 years and have always left her office feeling very poorly about myself and my health after meeting her. Her male nurse is equally rude. Below is my description of the last bad experience I had with her, which has prompted me to write this review and compelled me to find another PCP: My husband who also sees another doctor at the same GIMG office recently tested positive for COVID. As soon as I found out about his test results, I called Dr. Goyal's office to inform them about it and asked them to reschedule my upcoming appointment with Dr. Goyal for the following week. I informed the staff who answered my call that I am fully vaccinated, asymptomatic, and am awaiting the PCR results for my own COVID test. The staff who answered my call said that I should call them back to reschedule the appointment if and only if my PCR results for COVID test came out positive. Since my test results came out negative, I did not call them up again and showed up for my appointment. I also listed the exposure/test results/etc. in the GIMG eCheckin form. I repeated all this to the front desk when I went for the appointment and repeated all of this again to Dr. Goyal's nurse when he was taking my history. At no point was I asked by any staff to not be present in her office. But then Dr. Goyal walks into the room where I was waiting and starts blaming me of how I am being irresponsible and exposing everyone in her office to COVID and how I should have been isolating at home alongside my husband. (Let me repeat here that I am fully vaccinated, asymptomatic, and my PCR results were negative). When I told her that I tried to do the responsible act of calling her office and informing them about the exposure and asking them to reschedule the appointment, it was her office who said I don't need to reschedule. At that point, she told me that her office staff who answers the call is not medically trained to give this response, and that I should have talked to a nurse or called Dr. Goyal herself during doctor call time to discuss this matter. What I failed to understand is that how a medical office staff is not trained to let the patient know (if that is their policy) to not come into the office when exposed to COVID and why she was blaming me for this. I tried to do exactly what a responsible person would do. Who else was I supposed to call and inform other than her own medical office. I found her action very illogical and unreasonable, and can no longer trust my health to her. FYI, this incident happened in mid September 2021. read more

Dr. Fola Oluwehinmi is my primary care physician. I have visited him several times, and each time I have been impressed by the careful examination he has given me. Fortunately I have not to seek his help in an emergency, but if I had to do so I am confident he would deal calmly and wisely with the situation. I chose GIMG because I figured a practice with so many doctors must know a thing or two about health care. The credentials of the doctors looked pretty good on the website and the practice looked pretty organized. I was severely disappointed. The doctors do not administer personalized care, and the policy at GIMG is to charge for everything. From writing a replacement prescription because your insurance changed to getting printed lab results, be prepared to pay for anything that requires effort. I understand that economics is a driving force, but there's a certain threshold and GIMG definitely crossed it. Go see Tracie Lanter in McLean if that's an option for you. She's fantastic! read more

I wasn't thrilled (per my earlier review) so I changed to a new doctor (Dr. Chen) and I actually liked him. However, under circumstances which are not quite clear to me, he's left the medical practice entirely. I was sick this year so I saw yet another doctor. She browbeat me for not having scheduled a regular check-up. I tried to after my last check-up, but their appointment system doesn't go a full 12 months into the future. So I can't schedule it as I leave the office? And she's going to chastise me for that? No thanks. read more

I've been going to this practice for 12 years, and feel I get very good care. I don't have to wait long to get an appointment, and don't have to wait long once I arrive for a visit. I feel I've gotten very good medical care from Dr. Min over the years, and that she has taken a real interest in my health. Compared to other doctors' offices that I've been to in the area, I believe the office staff here are very good. They are thorough and quickly take care of insurance and billing issues. They are also good about relaying messages to the doctors and PA staff. I plan on staying with this practice for a long time. read more

Despite all the negative reviews, I decided to give this office a shot because it's in a convenient location for me, and all I needed was a physical. I was pleasantly surprised. I made an appointment with ease. When I showed up for my early morning appointment, I barely had to wait before I was seen. I have been here a few times and after going to a few other doctors (and quickly leaving) I am pretty pleased with GMIG. Of course it is hardly a Rockwall painting, but I have been happier than I have been with most doctor's offices. Sure the office staff isn't the best, but I always get in quickly and they have Saturday AM hours for emergencies. In my experience, it isn't so bad. Oh! And the magazine selection basically stinks. Just wanted to update this place over a year later. I still go to GIMG and my doc is Dr. Goyal. I still pay for the online system, they have 3 different levels and I do the middle level. I love the online appointment scheduling. I have never had a problem getting an appointment either the same day or day after, as long as you are flexible with seeing a PA or another doc... but if it is important, then you'll do it. Again, I have no problems with this place and the staff has been pretty friendly the last few times I have gone. read more

I've been going to GIMG for months due to a chronic cough. I told Dr. Abedi (who's no longer there) about my problem. She diagnosed me as having post nasal drip. Months later with the same cough I saw Dr. Min, who too diagnosed me with post nasal drip. After several nasal sprays, and allergy medications, a new diagnoses had arrived as acid reflux. I got so irritated that I requested a referral to an ENT. The nurse who saw me last would not write me one, which I thought was crazy. I swear these people don't know when to give up. Now here I am, waiting for test results on thyroids that was told would be available today and it's not. After the results come in, I'm no longer a customer. It's too much to handle. I needed a DO who did manipulation for pain in my hip. Dr. Emily Chin was the only DO my insurance covered, so I made an appointment. I went in and talked with her a bit, and when she realized I what I wanted (manipulation) she then told me that she didn't do that. If it had stopped there I would have probably given her three stars (for not telling me before I made the appointment, I was pretty clear with the receptionist what I was looking for.) However, it did not stop there. I'll start off with how inept she she came off. I gave her very detailed information on the pain in my hip: what aggravates it, what the orthopedic said, what the physical therapist said, etc. After going through my medical history and seeing how many bones I've broken over my lifetime (five), she suspected arthritis in my hip. So even though the patient, another doctor, and a PT thought it was muscular, she wanted to try something instead of just saying "I can't help you." This was fairly costly for me because not only did I have to pay like another $80 for the X-rays (probably why she didn't just walk away), but I had to take more time off from work (I get paid by the hour). After a week or so I called their messaging service, which is very strange, and checked the voice mail she left me. Her message was simply, "You're X-rays turned out fine." That's it. No advice, nothing helpful, just that it wasn't arthritis. Gee. Thanks. Now for the part that really, really bothers me. She not only did she fail to give me information that would help, but she gave me information that ended up leaving me in pain for months. She proceeded to tell me that no DO ever does manipulation anymore, only internal medicine. I told her about my roomate's gf who is a DO doing her residency and has to learn manipulation. Her response was PA was the only state that still requires DO's to learn manipulation, and that there weren't any in the DC area who practiced manipulation. This caused me to give up my search, feeling like I now had no chance to find a DO who could help stop the constant searing pain in my hip. During this time I continued trying to see a PT, but their therapy really didn't help. Finally the pain got so bad I decided to search again, and I found a great DO, Dr. Craddock (whom I've reviewed on here). After one treatment from him the pain was gone. If Dr. Chin hadn't decided to volunteer information on a subject she knew nothing about (turns out there are quite a few in the area), I would have found relief from the severe pain in my hip. read more

GIMG was horrible in following through with test/exam results. I went to their Arlington office for pre-op exams more than 7 business day before my surgery. They had the EKG report printed out on the day of my visit, but took their time with my blood work report(which normally only take 1-2 days to turnaround). The nurse practitioner promised to sent the report to my surgeon but never did. The Surgeon's assistant and I had to call multiple times to get those report fax'd over to my surgeon's office. They almost caused my surgery to be cancelled and pushed to a month later. I am so very disappointed with this medical group. read more

This is by far the worst doctor's office I've ever been to. I went here a few times because I lived in the mosaic district and the office is walking distance. Every time I call I am put on hold immediately for several minutes. The receptionists are very unprofessional- talking and laughing with each other rather than helping patients in a timely manner. Expect to wait a minimum of half hour in the waiting room and at least another 20 minutes after the nurse takes your blood pressure, temperature, weight etc. I've seen Dr. Colella and Dr. Fola and both were just okay. They always try to get you to come back for a follow up appointment in a couple weeks before prescribing anything. What a waste of time and money. Last year I had X-rays taken here and last month I had blood work done. Both times I never received any results until I called them to figure out what was going on. You can definitely find a better doctor anywhere else. Do not go here! read more

I've been coming here for the past 14 years and have been seeing Dr. Goyal for my routine yearly visits and occasional cold, cough or stye. She's absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend her. She truly cares about me and spends time with me at every visit. It is a busy practice but she makes sure I understand what's happening with my health. I have a cough now and am being seen by Elizabeth, one of the PAs and she also is a wonderful. While I am not naive to think that economics is not a driving force behind most businesses, this place just don't care about their patients what so ever. This is the first time I am rating anything using the Internet. I would love to give this place a 1 star but am giving it a 2 since their medical staff members handle their work efficiently. The problem is the billing department. The billing department frequently overcharges their patients. It took them three months to resolve my billing issue. In addition, as other posters noted, this practice will charge so much for their services!!! I would highly recommend people to try other medical offices in the area. I would just like to say that I love my doctor, Doctor Goyal, at General Internal Medicine but the office staff leaves much to be desired. I called this morning to speak to Doctor Goyal and was put on hold for 20 minutes then an office staff person got back on the line and said may I help you. When I said that I was waiting to speak to Dr. Goyal, I was told call time was over and that I could leave a number. When I asked to speak to an office manager because I had been on the phone for 20 minutes waiting for the doctor, I was asked what this was about. I am really irritated about this whole thing. The office staff in this office is really annoying and not very friendly in person or on the phone. When someone answers the phone and says hold please and clicks over before you can answer is very annoying. Maybe they need some training in the office in order to deal with the public. I don't even think I was in a cue to talk to Dr. Goyal. I think that I was just put on hold. read more

I have been going to this practice for more than 8 years, I just saw these comments about the rudeness of the front desk staff. That has been the opposite of my experience. They are always quick to recognize you and give you any necessary paperwork. In all of my years going there I only had one front desk negative experience and when i reported it to the manager, it was promptly addressed. Also the same day that I had the negative experience, i called and the person on the phone was very helpful and got me an appointment right away. Dr. Jenkins and Francine are my most frequent contacts but when Dr. Jenkins was out of the office I had another doctor who was very good as well. Dr. Jenkins and Francine are wonderful. Also anytime I call in for refills, they are promptly handled. Dr. Jenkins always calls me personally to give me any lab results. read more

My experience with GIMG has been very mixed. The healthcare providers are pretty good at their job but the other employees are more of a mixed bag -- some are great, others seem as if they're still in training. I've seen both Dr. Selvaggi and Elizabeth McPhilomy, the PA. Dr. Selvaggi was nice enough and quite knowledgeable. Ms. McPhilomy was immensely helpful to me, very conscientious, and definitely knew her stuff. I had her fill out several forms and she was very organized in getting them back to me on time with all the needed test results. She was also friendly, which is always a plus. The office staff are less reliable. When making my initial appointment for a physical, I wasn't told to fast for my blood work, though I did anyway. When I showed up for the lab tests at 8am, I was told I didn't need a urine test because I was "too young" (mid-20s), though it was free with my insurance and I figured it couldn't hurt. Then when I came back for my physical that afternoon, I was asked to do a urine test after all. When I made another appointment for vaccinations and a TB test, I wasn't told that you have to come back two days later to have the TB test read, so I ended up having to come back two subsequent times since I couldn't make it for the "reading" two days from the date of my appointment. On the other hand, one woman who seems to be an office manager at the Fairfax location helped me out a lot and was super nice. Medical assistants were also hit or miss. In terms of services, the lab results phone number is helpful because obviously you can retrieve the results at any time and they stay there for 90 days. There is also a call-in period every morning (8:00-8:45) during which you can speak to your provider without having to come in. The Ballston office has Saturday morning hours, though if you're going in for a "nurse's visit" (labs, shots) you may have to wait up to an hour, as I did, because they squeeze you in whenever a nurse is free between other appointments. Lastly they have a system where you can make appointments online, but it costs $100/year. Seems pretty steep unless you have numerous medical issues and have to visit the doctor a lot. Overall, it's not the best run practice, but they do have a lot of services that can make it more convenient for you in the long run. read more

Horrible medical group I have ever seen. We went there for health screen Physician Assistant refused to follow the order on form my job wanted her to fill out and faxed to insurance company. She faxed the form to my insurance company with no result because of wrong decision she made we are about to lose our insurance or pay highest contribution rate. Plus front desk people are very rude, unprofessional and disrespectful. We never go there anymore and I do not recommend any one at all to go General Internal Medical Group. They will put in worst situation or they may even kill you by wrong decision they will make for your heath. read more

I have been going to this practice since it was in Arlington Hospital. Because my doctor moved to the Fairfax office, I chose to go there despite the fact that the Arlington office is closer. My doctor is Dr. Ellen Jenkins. I have always been exceptionally pleased with her. When I have needed referrals, they have been excellent. She is extremely pleasant and kind. She has even called me at home when she felt it was important. Under her I feel I receive very good care. I trust her. In fact, when I have mentioned to doctors in the hospital or in their offices that Dr. Jenkins is my doctor, they often have said, "She's good." I cannot vouch for the other doctors except Dr. Selvaggi, who was my husband's doctor. She seems extremely knowledgeable and a good doctor. I have always found the office staff helpful and friendly. I have been a patient of this group and very displeased. You never know what doctor you will see and they treat you like a commodity. The billing team is the worst. I had treatment in 2012, they filed the claim wrong so my insurance denied it. They corrected it and two years later they are still sending me a bill for the services. I called to ask them what happen in 2 years and they don't have a clue. The billing person said "I don't know what to tell you". I am taking them to court for lack of diligence in getting my insurance claim filed. I do not recommend this group. read more

Not impressed. I used to go to the GIMG office in Arlington before I moved to Falls Church. I needed a refill on prescriptions, so I made an appointment at this location. The place is a bit dingy- not a fan. The nurse I saw (don't remember his name) was awesome! The doctor was the main reason for this low review. Long story short I can get prescriptions at no cost, including OTC such as allergy pills. She refused to accept that writing a prescription for an OTC allergy pill was a thing that she could do and I got a LOT of pushback. I was very nice and cordial, until finally told her that I'd done it many many times before (just look in my chart) and that if she could give me the prescriptions to walk out with I would take care of the rest. Overall she was really rude and I was less than satisfied. She said some other snarky things too, but I think you all get my drift.... This was my first experience with this office and I'm now in the market for a new PCP. read more

The doctors here are OK but the office staff is truly horrible: unfriendly, rude, not at all helpful. My family should have changed to a different practice immediately after our first experiences with this office but its such a hassle to change for an entire family, I kept telling myself we could just ignore the rudeness but now we've had it. The unfriendliness starts when you enter and walk up to the desk and nobody looks up, let alone would ever give you a smile or a greeting. Same thing when you are checking out: basically you are greeted with silence and god-forbid you ask a question, or for clarification, or horrors...try to make small talk. When you call for appointments expect to either be on hold a very long time, or the office to be closed. And if there is disconnect in the medical codes between what they used and what your insurance company says forget it. They will not help you at all. read more

I attempted to schedule with a physician I looked up online. I was able to do so, only 7 weeks in the future. I confirmed online and received a phone call confirming my appointment the week of. 24 hours before the appointment, I received a call cancelling my appointment because of a "schedule change." Defensive receptionist when asked 1) why would you wait till the day before to notify me and 2) why can't you schedule me in sooner. I was told I can reschedule more than 2 months forward from now, if I want, at the soonest. No thanks. read more

I love Dr. Gorrelick but the front desk staff is HORRIBLE and I would never recommend anyone going to this group. I never get sick but just called to see if I could get an appointment to see Dr. Gorrelick. Porsche told me the first appt. was Sept. 19th but she had a cancellation and could get me in on the 9th. I'm pretty sure I have bronchitis and I had told her that but she appeared to care less. I asked about 'sick visits'....no, they were all taken. No options...tomorrow..another doctor....nothing. She could have cared less. I must have been keeping her from something far more important. If I didn't have to see Dr. Gorrelick for prescription re-ups, I would never set foot in this practice and would tell everyone how awful it is. I'm now off to find out where I can go for my bronchitis.... read more

Dr. Min in my favorite doctor I have ever had. She takes time with you and answers all your questions. I really love her. The office staff one encounters when entering the office is not particularly welcoming but perhaps they are overworked. Who knows? read more

I moved to the area recently and needed a new general practicioner. I saw Dr. Fola and am extremely happy with him! I was able to get an appointment quickly and the front desk staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating. I recommend this practice and Dr. Fola highly. read more

I have been going to GIMG for approximately ten years and am generally very satisfied with their work, attitude and practices. They are GREATLY superior to many other doctors offices I can remember in my 85 years (as of today) of living. One needs to have his/her personal physician there as it makes a much more personal contact. I have found the staff to be professional and caring. And of course the longer one goes to an office, the more you get to know. people. Ii don't claim that GIMG is perfect, but who is?? You do not have to wait long as in some other offices. All in all, I would not change from GIMG for another office, and feel whatever problems one has with them could be resolved by a discussion with one's physician. My doctor is knowledgeable, caring and a nice person. read more
