The material covered in the course was uncannily relevant to my business on a day to day basis. I could not speak highly enough of Garfield as an instructor. He effectively explained all material by walking us through each step and using helpful analogies for us to have a stronger understanding of when you would use each tool. As an online course he made sure everyone was engaged and was patient yet timely to reexplain something if people had questions. Garfield was kind enough to make himself available for me after the course as I was struggling with a challenging and important excel file I was working on. He let me share my screen with him and explain what I needed help with. His help with this file and the tools I gained from his instruction very likely are the reason I saved my job. Thank you NYIM and Garfield. If you are looking to increase your excel skills THIS is the company you should invest your time in.

Course content felt well thought out and organized--nice mix of working on mapped exercises to work on discrete skills with some room to work on any problems or concerns or thoughts you might have brought to class. The supplement files/exercises provided for post-class work are solid as well. I've received a greater amount of content from some places, but the files and materials here were much more workable and better-organized. Classrooms are not glamorous by any means, but they are acceptable. I took the class in early fall, and I would caution that the room was quite warm; somewhat uncomfortably so once it hit midday, even with the giant fan going. So dress lightly. But worth it for the VBA-ducation.

He was easy to follow, enthusiastic and entertaining. Great course! Great instructor! The facilities were very nice as well. We worked on very speedy and up-to-date Macs. There were a few times, because of work, that I had to change my schedule and the staff there were always helpful, friendly, and accommodating. I very highly recommend FMC to anyone who is seriously looking to improve their technical skills.

Overall they offer a completely different type of training than most companies - small class sizes, flexible scheduling, 1:1 tutoring and a truly dedicated team to help you reach your business school goals. The kicker for me was that this 'personalized' service so to say was for the same price as standard 4-6-week prep courses. At the start of your time with MBA House each tutor gets to know you, your career goals, and your target schools. They then create a recommended schedule for you based on your target schools, application deadlines, and availability. This helped me a ton because I haven't studied for a standardized test since High School and this session outlined the level of effort I needed to put into the GMAT studying to get into my target school. The New York team is broken up into 2 tutors (one for verbal, one for math) that are supported by their counterparts from MBA House Miami. Everyone at MBA House is able to decompose complex and confusing topics into clear steps and concepts that make you wish your previous High School teachers and College professors taught you the way MBA house does. If you are looking for a flexible course schedule, dedicated support, and the type of preparation that allows you to confidently walk into your GMAT exam I would 100% recommend MBA House as your test prep company!

Disclosure - I had already been self-studying w/ the LSATTrainer for three months before I took this class so this review is more for people who are looking for strategies to take them over the edge. Games. I was stuck getting 16-19 at most right in the Games section. Eva's games theory completely revolutionized my approach and got me to a perfect games score on every PT Logic Reasoning. Was doing fine on this section before using the question approach method from LSATTrainer, but Eva REALLY taught me propositional logic, bait & switch and other concepts that are absolutely fundamental to the LSAT and made me way more confident and sure identifying flaws. Reading Comp. Also was doing fine in this section before. Had the least improvement on this section with Binary Solutions, but this is not to say Eva's theory in this section is not valuable for people diving in for the first time. In terms of the class itself, I loved how flexible the class is - Online and in person materials. Eva is incredibly supportive and makes herself available to you to make sure you improve. As others have said she is intense (because she cares and is geeking out over law which you should be too if you're trying to go to law school!). She does go on long tangents in class but if you can get past this, almost everything she shares is very valuable and a lot of it is either related in some way to the LSAT or law practice. Ultimately before the test I did revisit the LSATTrainer on reading and LR but it was the combination of the theory I learned in Eva's class with the baselines strategy I learned with that book that got me over the edge.

I am not a very good test taker so my friend recommended me to take the Y2 Academy. It was my summer into senior year so I was up for anything. Let me tell you it is not cheap. After prepping with them the whole summer I only received a 26 on my ACT. Not four points higher like they guarantee they claim. You get homework that is a full-length test. First of all, I thought the homework was useless you take it home and do it and don't over it in class if you do it's very briefly. I understand we need homework but maybe something like a worksheet with exercises or half a test homework would work better. What I learned from this class that is if you don't have a fundamental understanding on a specific topic they will not go over it. They just go over test questions and answers. In this regard, I believe you need to figure out your weak points in the specific areas such as Trigonometry in math on your own. They won't do that they will just give you test scores. Not worth the money. Try to prep yourself or get a cheaper tutoring service.

Reading through some of these reviews about CUNY School of Professional Studies leaves me with…read moremixed emotions. I graduated from CUNY SPS in August of 2012 and I had a great experience in my courses. At CUNY SPS all instructors, at least online, actively participate within the discussion boards and makes sure that the students are getting the most out of the subject content. There is a perception that online courses are easy and that's not the case. You have to work exceptionally hard online to accomplish your degree objectives. There are few opportunities to miss a course. In brick and mortar institutions when weather conditions force school closures CUNY SPS is open and you will still log on to and attend your course as scheduled. In online courses you complete more assignments, write more papers, participate in more group discussions, and in some courses you will be required to engage in social media and second life activities. What you learn in an online Bachelors Program at CUNY SPS will prepare you for graduate school. In fact after I completed my education in CUNY I immediately enrolled in Graduate School at Stony Brook University and completed my Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies degree requirements in only 3 semesters. Let's be human for a moment here... I had a few issues at CUNY SPS but I worked them out with the appropriate department. But overall my experience at CUNY SPS was great! If you rate a school one star it's probably fair to rate your performance at one star. This is a situation where you can't fault the institution for the performance of self or the interaction with a professor. I remember at our graduation a candidate spoke and said that he believed his writing assessment was the best but ended up requiring him to enroll in remedial courses. Sometimes you have to have corrective feedback in order to improve. Instead of quitting, as many do, you have to accept it and move on. You have a goal to accomplish--Graduation. You have to put in the effort, complete the assignments, participate in projects and discussions, and succeed. At the end of the day administration does not matter neither do the professors, no matter how horrible (yes, I had two), YOU have to manage your success in the course. Sometimes you may have absolutely no idea what direction the professor is taking the course but in those situations I succeeded by following the course syllabus closely and monitoring change. There will be times the professor will confuse you but you have to communicate that confusion clearly in the forums and you will receive help. CUNY SPS is not set up to fail you and the proof is in the growing number of annual graduation candidates. I would like to challenge you, if you are thinking about enrolling, leaving CUNY SPS or have left, to re-enroll (or register) and prosper. Keep going and finish. After you complete your degree then you can look back over all of the obstacles that you have overcome and in that moment you will both understand and appreciate the struggle. If the will to overcome obstacles is in within you then you will have difficulty succeeding at any University.

The school takes your money and on day one of the class you are unable to withdraw without losing it. The workload is extremely intense and most business professors are not interested in helping the students. There are many technical requirements that are not posted in advance and you are left on your own struggling to figure it all out. I have found that many professors are highly unorganized, unable to spend time helping and don't take the time to learn the course they are teaching or learn English/proper grammar. Currently, I am taking a Statistics class. I just spent 8.5 hours completing the first test had a technical error and failed to count all my answers. Instead of reviewing my test and the answers, my lazy professor's response was "Just take it again." Sure, I have another 8.5 hours to redo this! Thanks for nothing. Also, the technical requirements for this homework are incompatible with my computer's software. I am 6 classes away from graduating and fear this is the end of my road here. Very depressed. Lots of time and money are wasted at SPS. I am beyond disgusted with this institution!

I was really impressed by how nice the facilities and equipment were. And they even provided snacks! The classes followed the Apple-dictated structure, but our Emmy-awarded (!!!) instructor, Scott, was always able to offer extra tips and even showed us his favorite industry blogs and websites. The class was really well paced, with plenty of breaks, and Scott is a very patient man. Much more patient than I..... classmates, ya know? However, the class size was super small, so that really helped that he was able to give individual attention when needed, and did a great job at keeping everyone at the same pace. At the end of the class, I decided to take the Apple Certification for FCPX Level One - I passed with FLYING COLORS! The class REALLY prepared me well for it, and I did as Scott suggested - spent a week studying on my own with just the book (that they provide you & you get to keep)! So happy with my experience there!! Overall - super nice people, super knowledgeable teacher, super good training.

While it wasn't a HUGE jump…read moreto go from one editing software to the other, there were definitely some gaps in my knowledge. I looked into the Training Farm and what enticed me to try them out, was their one-on-one training sessions. I knew I was too advanced for beginning PP6 and I really didn't want to go through the mechanisms of "what is a timeline" and go into a beginner's class. I also work full time, can't just take a weekday off for what is usually their scheduled 3-day sessions, and I was paying for this class out of my own pocket, so I wanted the most bang for my buck. One of my frustrations with these types of establishments, is that I often feel that I am learning some things, going over things I mostly know, but the class never really focuses on the things I REALLY want to know. So, after some back and forth emailing with the Training Farm about my needs and expectations, I signed up for a one-on-one session. After sitting down with my instructor in the beginning to outline what I would like to learn, my interests and issues when editing, the instructor went through each of my requests. I learned at least 3 things that I wish I knew earlier that week when a big project was due, that would have made my life easier in post. That was definitely worth the money. The instructor was patient and knowledgable and tried to ensure that I wasn't skipping over anything he thought I needed to know. The facility is nice and clean and my session took place in a private room. The instructor worked on a computer, which was attached to a large screen, and I was able to follow along on the other computer. I am not going to give them 5 stars as I feel that I would need to take an actual class as opposed to one-on-one to assess them better. But overall, I would definitely come back here again for lessons.
