    23rd Street Auto Sales

I truly wish I could say good things about this business in my hometown, but sadly that's not the…read morecase. I now live in Colorado, although I have a large family and many friends that still live in Columbus. I was in the market for a used SUV and was planning a trip back to Nebraska soon. After searching the Internet unsuccessfully for a local CO vehicle for sale, I spotted a used 2008 Toyota Highlander in our price range at 23rd Street Auto. I called on it right away and eventually dealt with the owner's son Tyler. He informed me of many things about the vehicle as well as his father's family owned business...one thing in particular he stressed is that they are Christian's and they conducted business accordingly. I appreciated hearing this. First I had my mother come to look at the vehicle and then a family friend with over 45 years in the car business as a mechanic. Needless to say, he knows his stuff when it comes to automobiles. He took the Toyota out for an extended test drive and gave it a thorough pre-purchase inspection. What Tyler and his father had told me about the Highlander was very much opposite in relation to what our family friend discovered. It needed over $3000 worth of repairs, i.e., tires, brakes, shocks, and loose steering. In fact, I was informed that it wasn't even safe to drive. Tyler disputed all of this (except for the tires) and told me he would have the vehicle checked out at the local Toyota dealership right away and then get back with me. I hadn't heard from him and ended up calling him after about two weeks. He had one excuse after another. He even stated several times that at the price they were selling it for, they were only going to make a couple hundred dollars and that they would never ever lose money on a sale. Tyler also admitted that no one working at his dealership was a mechanic and that they had not taken it anywhere to be evaluated. According to him and his father, mechanically nothing is wrong with it and it is safe to drive. Buyer beware! This is yet another dealership that will say and do anything to make a sale. To the good people of Columbus, I am sorry that this type of business has taken up shop in your city.
