It was a rainy Saturday morning when I visited, and wasn't expecting the shop to be busy as i assumed it was newly opened. There was one person before me having his hair cut, but I was served promptly afterwards. The friendly guy who cut my hair was the owner, and it turned out he'd been in Barnehurst for a year, but had only recently put up a new sign. No wonder I'd never noticed it! According to the owner the shop is still using a temporary fit out until the lease is confirmed, but I was told there's plans for a renovation soon. Until that happens, it does feel a bit like a house where someone has recently moved in and not fully established themselves yet. Haircuts are a personal thing, but I found the quality and service to be first rate. The owner mentioned he had decades of experience in cutting hair, having owned a few barber shops in others areas. As I was leaving, another person came in and was waiting for a haircut, so they've obviously got a few customers despite their low key presence. I'm sure that's a good sign of better things to come.

Having originally given Jay's Barbers a four star review, then downgrading it to three after a few…read moresubsequent visits, it seems a little strange to return again and then give a one star update. Anyway, the queue was at least an hour long at Raymons Barbers across the street, so as I was in a hurry, I thought I'd give Jay's a try again as there was no one else in the shop. I should have realised that was a bad sign and walked away as it only got worse. A staff member was sitting on the customer waiting chairs doing nothing, but she was wearing sunglasses indoors on a cloudy October day, so probably hungover. Not a state you'd want someone to go hear you with scissors! I sat down and told her what I wanted. She told me that wasn't a good idea, and suggested a different style instead. Throughout the haircut she was carrying on a personal conversation with the owner and completely ignored me. She was also continually checking her phone, so obviously not paying attention. I ended up with a nasty cut on my neck, and didn't even receive an apology or a tissue to wipe up the blood. To add insult to the (literal!) injury, the haircut was of poor quality, and when I said I wasn't happy, she blamed my hair for it looking that way! With plenty of other good barbers in the area, I have no idea how the amateurs at Jay's are even in business. I certainly won't be going back - ever.

Cut & Style is a local barbers in Belvedere village. It is quite basic but served all my needs. I…read morewas impressed with the service. I did not have to wait for long to be seen to. Whilst I waited, a selection of the days newspapers were on hand to read to keep me entertained. The staff were cheerful and chatty and I had a good conversation with them during my cut which did not take long at all. The price was fair too, my haircut cost £7.50 which I did not mind paying at all. Parking is available right outside the shop and in the surrounding roads which helps make the visit quicker and easier.
