I told Dr.Manuel that I spoke with a Telehealth doctor an hour earlier and he mentioned my symptoms were very serious and I needed to be tested further and that I should go to either urgent care or the ER. To which Dr. Manuel laughed and rolled his eyes. He checked my lungs and said they are perfect. I was asked to keep taking rest, Tylenol and Tamiflu only if I tested positive for covid. I was coughing non stop for 48 hrs at this point to which he paid no attention. After another 2 brutal days of suffering from my sysmptoms of high fever, dizziness, chills, body aches, cough, I saw my PCP, Dr. Yamane at the UCLA Calabasas location. His first impression was, why did the doctor from Saturday (Dr. Manuel) not order any tests? Dr. Yamane heard issues with my lungs and immediately asked me to get my blood work done along with chest X-rays. Yesterday, it was confirmed that I have been suffering from pneumonia. How is it possible that my lungs sounded "perfect" to Dr. Manuel just days before? If a doctor is unable to identify a diagnosis and ignore the symptoms for something as serious as pneumonia, that doctor should not be treating patients for anything. Me and my whole family have been with the UCLA network where we have always received world-class care. My experience with Dr. Manuel falls way below the UCLA standards.

You never have a sense that he is prepared or fully present…read more We regularly bring in print outs of labs taken within the St Johns / Providence system he's part of and he asks if he can make a photo copy of our print outs. He and or his staff are slow to follow through and follow up. He has suggested actions without consideration for the person's entire health situation. As an internist, he's the 'conductor of the patient's healthcare orchestra' so to speak. Dr. Tyler is not aware enough of the patient when they walk in - it feels like he's trying to jog his memory as he's talking to you and that he sometimes forgets fairly significant aspects fo the patient's heatlh. For example, he recommended continuous oxygen use but didn't note what that means for CPAP use. This required that we call back with obvious follow up questions that you'd expect an internist/who "knows his patients" to proactively consider and instruct to to begin with. Given the limited office hours 9 to 3p a few days a week with 2 hours for lunch getting answers and call backs for information that should have been provided to begin with is frustrating.

When I first called to inquire about his services, I was told by a receptionist that he does quick consultations over the phone but the fee was a bit ridiculous. Just to confirm that he does offer MAT. I declined and made an appointment as I was desperate. Two appointments later, and still no MAT. He's always running late because he takes his time with each patient. When my lab work came back, I felt he was a little over the top regarding my anemia results. He insisted I go to an ER asap for a blood transfusion and called my colon surgeon to discuss my lab results. After seeing my colon surgeon, he high fived me when I said I felt Dr Jacobs was overly dramatic. Obviously, my surgeon felt similar. Actually, he said the same thing. He was also annoyed because Dr Jacobs performed a rectal exam and my surgeon said NO ONE but a specialist in gastroenterology should be doing that kind of exam on a patient with lower GI issues or disease. I had already felt uncomfortable during the exam, and after hearing that, I felt more violated. Even my husband was surprised. It's like, Stay in your lane! Nearly $1000 spent trying to get treatment for one thing, and I left with zero MAT and a rectal probe and a lot of what I felt was hysteria. Conversely, my gastroenterologist (not to be confused with colon surgeon) thinks highly of him, so it is up to you to take your chances.
