Mother was dealing with urine issue for a year. All he did is send her home with antibiotic. As time went on my mother pain got worse he would just give her a stronger antibiotic. When her pain spread to her back he told her she was having back spasms. His plan of action was to give her a pain pill. In that time my mother had bladder cancer that had spread to her stomach then to lungs. He did nothing to look into her issues. He is a failed my mother, not sure if he looks at the elderly as a waste of time. His office staff was not useful at all either. I would not recommend this doctor to my worst enemy if I had one. He should be ashamed of himself for doing that to my mother, not looking into her problems as a doctor should.

Every time I go in I know I'm seeing Dr. Holzem, not a NP or his nurse. I always will see him. He spends as much time as you need. He takes your concerns personal. He not only listens to you, but educates you about the concerns you bring to his attention. Dr Holzem moved from eureka to Washington. It's a further drive for me but it's worth it when you're receiving compassionate care.

GI is his specialty. THEN, I was anesthetized for the procedure. He came by recovery when I was "more" aware, and my sister was in the room (four ears are better than two), to discuss discoveries, how to move forward, prescriptions and diet. The knowledge is oh-so important. But the bedside manner counts for a lot, too. And he has both. Call January 24 from his office indicated -- after pathology was performed on the tumor -- it was exactly what was expected and benign (not some OTHER type of tumor) and that clear margins were achieved. I was sold after my first appointment. If you live in the St. Peters/O'Fallon area, this is your guy. If you live downtown, this is still your guy. I swear he's worth the drive. I've never had a doctor pay more attention to what I'm telling him and genuinely care about what it is that I'm saying... and that's priceless. He's also a pretty funny guy who tries to be "hip" to what's going on in the world and strikes up the funniest conversations! Dr. McIntosh is thorough and knowledgeable, and he'll get you back up and running in no time. I've seen him for typical stuff such as allergies and colds, and he makes great recommendations and always gives me tips that help me feel ten times better. I even had to call the after-hours line once with a bad sinus infection (sure he appreciated that one) and he was still as caring and attentive even though I was bugging him late at night. What puts him above all others is how he follows up and doesn't give up until you've fixed whatever the problem is. For myself, the allergy queen, he prescribed a medicine and a nose spray and had me check in with him 7 days later via the phone, and we spoke that often until he had me on a plan that was working wonders. Looks like I'll be driving that 45 minutes next time I need him!

Dr. McIntosh has been my primary care doctor for over a decade. He is very personable and has an excellent bedside manner. He has seen me through quite a few health issues and always pops through when I've been admitted to the hospital. We don't have all the answers for my health problems but I can't say he doesn't LISTEN to every single one of them. He orders tests and refers me to specialists when needed. I've never felt misunderstood or dismissed which is not something I can say for many many specialists I've seen. To be fair, Auto Immune diseases are notoriously difficult to diagnose but I can confidently say Dr. McIntosh is doing everything he can to help me get answers. I would send anyone I know to see him without reservation. *Read up on Celiac Disease, doc! The amount of misinformation from medical professionals on this is criminal and a huge disservice to those who have it. Effects from celiac damage can spill over into almost every other part of your body. Celiac is for life and a negative blood test/scope (after a positive one) means you're doing well GF. it does NOT mean Celiac went away and you can eat what you wish!
