When I got back to California from my East Coast visit, there was a letter from the VA waiting for me. The letter said that the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center was my new "Home VA." Apparently, when I visited, they had to create a chart for me, but then they neglected to "kick my records" back to California. I went to my local VA and explained the situation, they punched a couple of keys, and they fixed the situation. If you are here as a visiting veteran, make sure that they send your records back to your home VA. Just a minor glitch, I would still use this VA again in a heartbeat. Thank you.

Been to a few other VA medical centers, and this is the cleanest most organized hospital I've ever…read morebeen to. I am treated with courtesy and dignity, and my issues listened to. They are 55 miles away, but we go there. I trust their capability and appreciate the attention to my problems. The only issue I had was their obvious right wing leanings and pushy about religion- based on the TV channels always on, like FOX news and the 700 club. I find that offensive and complained about it. Now clickers are left out so patients can change it. Occasionally the older angry vets verbally express themselves quite loudly and offensively, but we just leave the area. The staff themselves are attentive, friendly, professional and helpful. Much appreciated.

I enjoyed my experience here compared to Wilkesbarre general hospital. Everyone swears by the deliciousness of the smoothie bar (I personally never got it tho). Beware this is trauma center so the ED can be very chaotic at times with long waits for beds but they get to you eventually based on the severity & level of care needed to make you feel better. The labor and delivery ward here is the really good compared to the others I've been to; it also has a Nicu for babies. (But if I had to choose a place to deliver, Geisinger CMC in Scranton labor and delivery is so much nicer but better suited for moms with uncomplicated pregnancies as they don't have a NICU.) My main downside to coming here was how far away the parking lot was & can be challenging to find a closer spot. But to help they do have shuttles that runs till about 4am & can pick you up and take up to the front of the hospital.

As a new patient, you cannot call a doctor's office directly or speak to their local staff. Everything goes through a centralized call center. Even if a doctor's profile says they accept new patients and treat your condition, the call center will block you from scheduling if it doesn't match an exact term on their computer screen. You end up pawned off on available doctors with poor reviews, while the highly-rated doctors are booked out for a year. When you are on borrowed time, you need direct access to a doctor you choose, not automated call-center nonsense.

Hi. I was a patient at First Hospital who was 302'd, that means I was an involuntary admittance for…read morea psychotic episode. I was violent and had to be restrained twice in the first 3 days. i ended up staying for 16 days, with the first few days being very rough for me mentally. I can honestly say that I am completely greatful for the treatment I received there. The staff, especially those who restrained me were absolutely professional. I was not hurt at all even while being restrained by 12 people. They were truly experts at their jobs. After my stay I left feeling like myself again. I want to thank Dr. Asif for working closely with me on my medication plan, helping me with not only my schizophrenia but also my anxiety and depression. I also want to thank all the nurses, therapists, food preppers, cleaning staff, techs and security (one of which I bit during a psychotic episode, sorry about that :/) who are very underappreciated for the work they do, and helped me 24/7, going out of their way many times to help me. Even after my schizophrenic episodes the staff did nothing but make me feel protected, being friendly and making me feel like I was a valuable member of society again. I apologize for the long ramble but the guys and gals at this hospital deserve respect and acknowledgement for the work they do. I am getting my life back because of them, and I have nothing but love, respect and admiration for what they do. I wish the hospital was better funded, added more healing activities like sports and was more taken of financially by the state government. Without this help I could have been hurt or even worse, I could have died. So thank you to all of the staff for making my stay a very productive and healthy one. I have the hospital app on my phone, so I checked in prior to going into the building , by doing that you receive a barcode that you can scan at the kiosk to let them Know your there for your appointment, which is much easier then filling everything out on the kiosk. I had to have some CT scan images of a couple areas Of my body, I was called in by technician Angela, who was so kind and caring. Medical facilities need more workers that care about the patients these days. Thank you Angela for making me feel comfortable during a scary time.

He wasted no time getting chest x-rays, oxygen and a breathing treatment. Diagnosed as Bronchitis as I suspected. He had a shot of steroids administered, called in prescriptions and I was on my way. The entire staff was very polite, friendly and helpful. Of course no one is a fan of going to the doctor, hospital, clinics, etc; but my experience was very very efficient and pleasant. Got…read morecheek and jaw surgery after and accident, the rebuilt my cheek so high up I can not wipe my eye and it continually waters as the cheek is too high up and intruders on my lower eye being able to lay down in the lower lobe correctly. Then they essentially misplaced my teeth so bad that ill never be able to chew food unless I get all teeth pulled all implants and jaw surgery recentering my law as it is moving because it cant get a bite in. They gave me buck teeth. Why would pronounced plastic surgeons do such a thing. BECAUSE THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THEIR PATIENTS. THEN they messed up my fmla causing me to loose 3 months income. I was in the middle of a job transfer and the new job cant take risk because of my injuries but they told me the recovery time was 6 weeks. If they had told me I couldn't do the new job for 3 months before my transfer date, I could of had my transfer date changed and stayed at my old job and had income the whole time. They do not care about their patients at all. Not at all. They cause issues where no issues were needed had they communicated my surgery and recovery from the beginning before the surgery but they were too worried about cannabis being in my system and making a huge stink about me having the medical marijuana card instead of properly explaining the surgery and recovery time. They are pieces if crap. Now I got messed up eye for life and instead of being able to chew food in 6 weeks like they said I will need 50 grand and a year more of mouth operations. You'd think plastic surgeons would know better. Even the surgery day was horrible, no doctors came to see me to review anything. The antistegiologist horrified me saying they were going to put a whole in my chest for me to breathe during the surgery which was not true and the surgeon comes running in the operating room scolding everyone for having me back there before he got a chance to talk to me. So ridiculous for all the fancy equipment they sure do treat their patients like shit. If there was a no star rating that's what I would give

We checked in online in advance and then a nurse called us before the appt to gather more information. We arrived a few minutes late but they never mentioned it. We were checked in, taken back to a room, evaluated, had xrays done and were out all in an hour. The facility waa brand new. Would highly recommend it.

After using the kiosk to check her in, we were called to the check in window. The miserable woman looked at me after I stated while I wanted her checked and said "Why would you bring her here? We can only do an EKG. We don't do blood work or other test." I stated I was unaware of that and left. She was very nasty! The fact that a child was denied services is unacceptable and I would NEVER go this facility again! I would encourage others to do the same!
