We drove to Porter's Lake from Halifax for seafood here, because we'd heard so much about it. It's a tiny take-out seafood shack, with outside tables (grab one in the shade if you can!). I had the scallops and chips special...which came with a piece of battered fish as well. My partner had fish and chips. Absolutely FABULOUS!! The scallops were tiny pieces of heaven, I swear! I have to agree with the other reviewers! Gazoo's Take-Out is a great little roadside drive-in located along Hwy 7 (Marine Drive) in Porters Lake. The place named after the classic cartoon character, has outside takeout windows with adjacent picnic table seating nearby. They offer wraps, burgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, fried seafood (fish, clams, scallops, shrimp), fresh cut Gazoo fries, poutines, onion rings, mozz sticks, plus several flavours of Scottsburn Dairy hard ice cream cones, shakes, and floats. Skinny Mini's meals are also offered too! The prices here seem pretty reasonable, most individual items (sandwiches) priced $3.50-$6.75, add fries & gazooslaw for $2.50 more. Most seafood dinners priced $6.50-$15.00 and they also offer a Gazoo "Fifty Five" Platter (10 Fish, 10 Shrimp, 10 Scallops. 25 Clams, & Gazoo Fries) for $55. Ice cream cones $1 (baby)-$1.50 (1 scoop)-$3 (2 scoops)-$4.50 (3 scoops). Tax included in the prices. I stopped by here for lunch on my way to Halifax, while my friend was not that hungry and just needed to use the washroom. My friend was directed to an adjacent very old and dark wooden house, where the toilet was located on the second floor in the middle of an empty room. For lunch takeout, I ordered a 1 piece Fish and Chips ($6.50), which was a very generous portion of hot food, which was on the greasy side, but very tasty and soo good! The big piece of fried fish was very crispy on the outside and hot moist on the inside. The big pile of fresh cut Gazoo fries were deep fried golden with skins on, crisp on the outside and hot & soft inside. I could not finish the Gazoo fries by myself, so my friend helped me out during the ride into the city. Yum! read more

Great burgers and hand cut fries. Just a drive in with picnic tables, but crowded with locals at dinner time. Not fast food, took 20 min for our order but worth it as food was delicious and made to order. For $11.50 plus tip had big order of fries, fresh cooked burger with all the fixings and a coke. The food is excellent! Been there numerous times. The fish and chips, scallops, clams and hamburgers are all delicious! The only thing that I was disappointed to see is that there was not a compost bin for paper plates, paper bags and highly unlikely but food left over. There was a bin for refundable containers and a couple garbage cans. read more

We're all big fans of Gazoo's and this is coming from a Crohn's patient :). Only place, in all of the greater Halifax area where I can order clams and enjoy them. That's because the owner knows how to cook them. They're always fresh and the fish and chips and hamburgers-well I can eat it all. Best fish and chips in Nova Scotia. Fish batter is thin and very tasty. Poutine is the best. Servings are very large and filling. Don't order the large size. You won't be able to finish it. read more
