We loved our recent stay in "Jessica's Cottage". It was perfect for a taste of Victoria's early history.
The miner's cottage, built in the 1880s, is one of three. It had simple furnishings, was warm and comfortable, and the kitchen was well-equipped. It was easy to walk in and make ourselves at home. There's even a piano!
The owner warmly welcomed us and made sure that our needs were met. He told us a brief history of the Gayford family's cottages and the restoration work that had been done. We learned that the bricks of the cottage's kitchen floor were original. A framed copy of an invitation to young Jessie Gayford's marriage on February 4th, 1913, was on the wall.
We enjoyed the quiet, pretty garden, and explored the area on foot and by car. It was the perfect blend of comfort and history!
