After 2 months, still waiting for the refund!! I was treated at the Okatie Orthopedic Urgent Care (Gavin Orthopedics) and charged a $40 copay. When Aetna Insurance informed me that there was no copay due on this service, I contacted the clinic. They said that I had to talk to accounting handling Gavin Orthopedics and Okatie Orthopedic Urgent Care. Accounting confirmed that I had a $40 credit on my account, but that the refund would have to come from the clinic. I've never had such a bad experience with a doctor. Dr Gavin ordered a Duralane injection for me. One month later I was still trying to get the office to get it for me because both locations didn't have any idea what they were doing. I had to do ALL the legwork and research myself. The Dr. office told me I had to have the prescription filled myself and bring the syringe to them myself!!! After trying several pharmacies because it is a specialty drug and only certain pharmacies can order it, I was told Medicare will only pay for it if the Dr's office orders it and gets delivery. Something Dr. Gavin's office should have known!! After at least a dozen calls to the office and the office manager I finally went directly back to the office in person because they never returned my calls and the office manager never made any notes in my file requiring me to start from scratch with each phone call. I asked why they prescribed it without checking with my insurance first I was told they never check insurance, "that's not the Dr's concern"!!! I've never heard of a Dr that would not confirm with insurance. They then told me I had to find an orthopedist that can get it or has it. Never even offering to assist. If this was the case why didn't they tell me that over a month ago before they prescribed it?!!! STAY AWAY!!! Very incompetent! And now I just saw your response Of my review on their website. Saying they explained their policy at length. THIS IS NOT TRUE. the receptionist only FINALLY informed me of this detail after I tried to get someone to assist me for a month! Don't try to make it sound as though you explained anything up front!!! They are just now trying to do damage control. Meanwhile for a month i never received ANY assistance from any of the staff! This is one of the nicest offices I have ever been! The entire staff were just incredibly kind, and helpful! Ashley and Derek - PA-C were absolutely the best too! They took an amazing amount of time being honest and explaining my situation to me in detail. Derek then explained to me exactly what I needed to do and why so I felt the quality of care was excellent, and above and beyond. My Doctor recommended this office and he never leads us wrong so once more I am happy I listened to his advice! Highly recommend Gavin Orthopedics and ,although I hope I never need them again, if I do - I will most definitely return!!! read more

Please be of careful of the improper billing practices of Gavin Orthopedic in Bluffton SC. I went to see them on 06/05/24 and again on 06/27/24. When they told me that I had to pay co-pays (for both appointments) I informed them my total out of pocket with my insurance company had been met. The office manager got on the computer and pretended that she checked my insurance account and said "almost met but not quite." I found out later that they cannot get into my insurance account. She insisted that I pay and that they would reimburse me once the insurance company confirmed and processed the claims. Both claims have been processed and paid 100% by my insurance company. My insurance company and I both have contacted them on numerous occasions notifying them that they owe me a refund for the copays. At first they refused, then said they would send a check and I would not get the tax the Charge Card Company charged because, that went to the Charge Card Company not them. I insisted they credit my card back and not send a check. They finally credited my card for the one co-pay but are refusing to credit the second one even though I have the statements and a letter from the insurance company stating that the insurance company paid them 100% in full for both appointments with zero patient responsibility because my total out of pocket had been met prior to my appointments with them. When looking at my bank statement it shows Gavin Orthopedic as the merchant but if I click on "more information" they have the charges listed under another company. I called the other company at the listed contact number and they said they are not affiliated with Gavin Orthopedic. I called my bank and they said it was not a mistake on their end that Gavin Orthopedic submitted the charges that way. I would think that these improper billing practices would be against the law. I would not recommend anyone to go to this business. I am in the process of disputing the charge. read more

I would recommend going somewhere else as they are all over the place and rude to their patients. I came up here after speaking with The receptionist who had me drive my referral and xray disc over (on a broken foot) just to receive a call me a day informing me they can't help me. The number they gave me for referal to another doctor isn't even in service. Don't bother with these people. read more

dr. gavin and staff go out of their way to make your visit to orthostat efficient and pleasant...he tries many non-invasive techniques to avoid surgery unless no other result will work...listens to people and fill their needs........a true pleasure. read more
