If you are picking up an excellent instructor for your driving training - you are 100% lucky!!! -:) Gavin is the instructor from God!!! I worked for 1.5 years with the former instructor, who canceled every third or fourth lesson -:( for some reason, she often took a vacation for 2-2.5 weeks -:( These classes cost me a lot of money -:(, I did not have the desire to go to a driving lesson with her -:(, because I just went and the instructor was immersed in her thoughts -:(. I put up with this, and then I sat down at the computer and found the Gavin's site -:) And it was all 1100% my correctly accepted decision!!! -:) Gavin, in 10 lessons, taught me so many skills that I never even learnt in 1.5 years from the former instructor! I came after classes with Gavin very happy, because at last I was fine, he explained everything clearly and demonstrated how to behave on roundabouts, unfamiliar roads, when going to a carriageway, how to overtake carefully, and so on -:) Each lesson with Gavin for me was so rich theoretically and practically that after three classes I completely lost the fear of roundabouts, unfamiliar roads and other motorists surrounding me! -:) I am very grateful to Gavin for giving me his knowledge, accumulated over many years of experience and painstaking work!!! On my driving test, I was not nervous, because I felt that I was confident that I was completely ready, for all maneuvers, for passing the exam, and what is the most important - for independent driving in my future. I have had the pleasure of taking the driving lessons with Gavin. First of all I should start with noting that not everyone loves (or has the time) to leave a review, but not this time. When we moved to Farnborough, the place was new for us and I had no one to recommend me to a good driving instructor. So google was the only hope and Gavin came on top of the results, ofcourse he should :). So inorder to thank Gavin and to help other people like myself, I would like to leave a review. I am a serious shopper and tend not to spend a lot of money unless there is quality. Now that I have had the lessons I can say with confidence that it is worth the money. Since this a skillset which if not used correctly can cause harm to yourself/others (not to mention other expenses), you don't want to go cheap. Starting with the formal bits, he is very professional, punctual, presentable etc etc... But the things I want to highlight is that his way of teaching is much more clearer (you will know the reason why things are done in certain way and with some history too) and pragmatic. As you can see from other reviews, he is good fun too :). He will never force you into something that you are not confortable with. He will maintain your learning pace. I used to drive in India, but there were so many techniques that I have leanred from him which enabled me to drive confidently on situations which where a nightmare for me, roundabouts for instance. Forget about the Practical test, because that was the easiest part of the whole driving experience with Gav :). When you are confident with the skillset to deal with whatever the traffic throws at you, the test is just a normal drive at a defined place and time, that's about it :). So after driving with 2 previous instructors and having no joy, I was hesitant into driving again as I felt I was never going to be able to drive confidently. Well how wrong I was. After meeting Gavin and realising how much of an enthusiastic and comical character he was, I realised that I had found THE best driving instructor. Gavin is extremely intellectual and knows exactly what he is doing and more (which helps!) but is also extremely patient which I found to be most important. He will listen to anything you have to say and is such an easy person to talk to, that he can even give Agony Aunt a run for her money! In the space I was driving with Gavin, my driving improved so much that I passed FIRST time with 0 minors! Now, that has got mean something as before I met him, my driving was terrible and I was committing so many faults without realising! I never enjoyed driving beforehand and would always dread my lessons, but once I met Gavin I couldn't wait for my lessons so much so that I when I actually did pass, I felt a little sad that I wasn't going to be driving with Gavin any more! Honestly, I don't think I could recommend this awesome guy enough if I tried and if there was a rating of 10 stars that still wouldn't be enough! A parent's perspective: My son was still away at University when I started researching local driving instructors for when he finished and moved back home. Gavin's website caught my eye and was extremely comprehensive and informative. I wanted to know who the driving instructor was, his experience and his track record, not just someone who belonged to a franchise, having heard some local horror stories. His reviews were excellent. When I contacted him he replied promptly and explained thoroughly how his diary works. During the course of the lessons, Gavin was reliable and always turned up on time. My son was able to have a regular weekly slot at the same time. When he returned from each lesson I could see his confidence increasing week on week and felt that Gavin genuinely cared about his progress and constantly gave gentle constructive criticism and then helped him improve in those areas rather than just pointing them out at the time. The supporting online material Gavin supplied was also invaluable. I cannot recommend Gavin highly enough from a parent's perspective when you just want the best for your child. Gavin House is a truly wonderful teacher. Every lesson with Gavin was enjoyable. I learnt with Gavin over about 6 months and passed first time! I had lessons with a previous instructor before that was detrimental and Gavin worked with me to unlearn bad habits and taught me to be a good driver, not to just to pass the test. I'm quite an anxious and indecisive person but he was never pushy, he encouraged me and help me gain the confidence in my skills as a driver, even though I was convinced I'd never pass or be confident on my own. I struggle with dyspraxia and he was patient and never got bored of my silly mistakes. We worked together to make ways to learn that I could understand and cope with. He's a fun guy to be around, he's never visibly irritated or angry. He was always just a happy, jolly guy that really knows what he's doing and genuinely enjoys teaching! I couldn't recommended Gavin enough! Such a friendly guy with a great sense of humour, who always made me feel welcome and confident in my driving abilities. He has a great way of teaching, and always made sure that I understood everything thoroughly and explained things in a way that I could remember. Gavin was very accommodating when sorting out lesson slots, and would always work around my college timetable. Even when I made mistakes Gavin would always reassure me that it wasn't a big deal, and that I could correct them. Gavin has a great range of documents and resources that he has written which I found extremely useful to read between lessons, especially on the approach to my tests. Gavin is the best driving instructor! I can't recommend to anyone enough to have Gavin as their driving instructor. Gavin is funny, has saint-like patience and is an amazing teacher. During our lessons he'd push me to make sure I wasn't limiting myself, but makes sure that I am comfortable with what I am doing. Gavin is also extremely accommodating and wants the best for his students. He doesn't just teach you to pass but to actually be a good driver. His ways of teaching are easy to understand, and makes you feel confident with yourself! Anytime I'd make a mistake, Gavin would go over it to make sure I can correct myself. I was extraordinarily nervous about learning to drive as I have never been particularly interested in driving and I thought that I'd left it a little too late to begin. From the outset Gavin was kind, patient and very encouraging despite my hesitations. He is a great communicator and uses a variety of techniques to teach and never turns up to a lesson without a plan (and visual aids!). His humour is invaluable and his company often makes it feel like you are simply taking a friend out for a drive.
