My daughter had her much larger dog cremated privately in Kitchener 2 weeks prior to ours as he had cancer & it only cost $350 for exactly same type of package we were given compared with $820 at Gateway for our small dog. Started with the high pressure sales tactics as soon as my dog was euthanized. Just disgusting. 7 emails and two phone calls within 48 hours is predatory. I recently used Gateway for the cremation of my dog. The Norfolk Veterinary Clinic in Brantford was the only place I could go, since they were the only clinic open on a Sunday. The clinic itself did its job; it is with Gateway that I have a problem. The whole process was stressful and a money grab. I only wanted my dog cremated and just the ashes returned. I was forced to buy the complete package, which is the Urn and paw print. This increases the cost substantially. These I didn't want. I had an urn with me, but was told that the urn was included in the package with the paw print. Nothing is free. If it's included, you're paying for it. I felt like I was forced to buy products that I didn't want or need just because they were part of the package. I was under a lot of stress already and voiced my disapproval of having to buy products I didn't want. It is expensive to have your pet put to sleep on a Sunday, and I felt that Gateway takes advantage of this. They have the market cornered, so we don't have much choice for comparison. In the future, I will try to avoid Gateway. They seem sincere, but they take advantage of people at their most vulnerable time. read more

I picked up my dog today and I was really disappointed that I got no Paw prints, 4 years ago I had my dog cremated here and received paw prints which I thought was really nice, after spending 450$ I thought i would be getting some paw prints of my dog. read more

Edit to add - On November 7th we returned to the cemetery as we had been advised that Gateway had restored the grave, with apologies. It appears to have been put back together with the original cement trim. Although the angel statue is surely gone, the work to repair the damage has been done to our satisfaction, and with thanks. I have never personally visited, but I have had both my furbabies (Buddy and Itchy) cremated here as of recent (3 weeks ago and 3 days ago... this is probably the worst few weeks of my entire life!) I recieved Buddy's ashes and saw the the packaging and certificate were very appropriate and beautifully put together. I had managed to open the urn and found that the ashes were bagged with a gold ribbon at the top. Very respectable. I really did appreciate the detail and the urn was nice as well. As we brought Itchy in this past Monday for cremation, I am painfully waiting for his return. The lady I spoke with on the phone regarding a question I had, and was very empathetic and understanding. Gateway Pet Memorial - R.I.P Buddy - Pet Services Near Me - Guelph, Ontario

We were not very happy with the customer service of Gateway. Our cat was on a Friday and we were hoping to pick her up as soon as possible from the crematorium. But they never contacted us. So we finally called them on Tuesday and scheduled a time for pickup the same day. The arrangement was that they would hand us over the box outside in front of their office as to avoid as much contact as possible due to Covid-19. A few minutes before the appointment, while we were on the way to their office, they called us and said that we could no longer pick her up. They told us there were government regulations in place which prohibit us from coming in (that was simply not true). They then promised us that they would send someone to our veterinary clinic and we could pick her up there the next day. But that did not happened either for some reason. They finally delivered her to the clinic on Friday and were were able to pick her up then. So it took them a full week from the point of cremation to returning her to us. Whereas we understand that precautions about Covid-19 are important, what Gateway did resulted in the exact opposite in the end. First, we could have picked her up a week earlier when the Covid-19 situation was less severe (schools and universities were sill open). And second, both we and their staff had more social interactions because the box had been passed via a third party. Both we and their staff had to go into the veterinary clinic. It would have been safer and faster if we could have just picked her up, especially since were were literally already on the way. So, in the future, we would probably choose a different company for the cremation. read more

I am highly disappointed in this company they charged me $70 for a paw print in a frame. Then called me a week latter asking if I wanted my dogs paw print in the frame since the $70 didn't include the actual paw print of my dog. So sad and upset with them I agreed to pay another $100 for my dogs paw print in the frame only for them to call back to tell me they had already cremated my baby and wouldn't be able to get the paw print as if loosing my child wasn't enough. Do not trust these people with your pets they are incompetent and have zero empathy for you and your pet. If I could give them zero stars I would. Also I paid a $160 to have her ashes into a heart pendent that they are now telling me takes a month and week too do and that is with a rush on it. So I am now on my way 2 and a half hour drive ( I would drive 100000 miles) to go pick up my baby in a pine box cause I don't trust these people to do their job and get her from point A to point B. Ive been waiting over 2 months for my cat and paw print. my mom also lost her cat and went to compagnonseternel who were very professional and returned everything within 2 weeks..i am absolutely heart broke. Awfull experience. they gave me the typical paw print excuse i see everywhere and it will be a couple more weeks, they promised they wouldbsend toby back quickly but still nothing. I lost my dog of 15 yrs and ordered a memorial stone for him on aug1 2020..they didn't out the order through till Aug 8th ..fast forward 8 weeks still have not received stone ..but they received full payment ...just got a call today (8 weeks later) saying they don't know what's going on with my stone it is coming they just don't know when their supplier is backed up so when I asked if they could contact supplier to find out what's going on she said she didn't know who their supplier was ? What? Really? I'm am beyond hurt frustrated and angry ..they offered a refund and I will still apperently get my stone when it comes in they just can't tell me when ..I would t even give this company 1 star ugh...fixed up an area in my yard specifically for my loved dog and no stone to complete it ..never will I recommend this company ..if u don't even know who your supplier is you don't deserve any business read more

Everyone at Gateway treated our Golden Retriever and us with the utmost respect and privacy. At no point did we feel rushed or hurried by anyone. We were given our time and space and the staff knew what we were doing. It was hard leaving our 'Simba' at the vet's office after he was put down, but the way he was cleaned up (showered, combed etc.) and presented even 3 days later was astonishing and it gave us a beautiful sense of closure to a joyfully lived life. Gateway is truly the kindest and most ethical business I've ever come across. We recently lost our Karter to cancer. We had to use a different vet clinic than our normal trusted vet. The clinic made a mistake and marked Karter for communal cremation instead of private - our wishes are to one day be spread with our very loved pets, so we always choose to get their ashes back. Gateway did everything they could to find Karter in hopes that he hadn't been cremated yet, and thank god he wasn't. I worried about whether I would truthfully get him back, but they offered to drive him in a wicked snowstorm back to our vet for positive identification. Karter had some unique characteristics so we agreed that if they took photos of him and our vet confirmed it was him, this was good by us. They had him back to us the very next day and our hearts were at peace. Gateway could have taken the stance that this was our vet's fault and they would have been right. However, they took control and made things right. We are so grateful. Never worry about whether you'll get your pets ashes back - these guys are so decent and honest. I received by far the worst service ever from Gateway Pet Memorial Services. When our cat passed away, we dealt directly with our vet, who provided Gateway with paperwork and told them we would follow up with our preferences. When I called Gateway, the receptionist asked if my pet was at the University of Guelph (he was) so he put me through to the person who dealt with University of Guelph cases. The woman that I spoke with was rude and condescending - she said they don't deal with owners directly and it wasn't appropriate for me to be speaking with her. I apologized and said I would go back to my vet. After telling me exactly about her pet 'pick up schedule' at the University - completely inappropriate - she finally said she would take my preference and add it to the form, although this is not typical. I would need to deal with the vet about financing and pick up everything at the vet's office. A few days later, I followed up with the vet just to ensure Gateway had contacted them. They had not heard from Gateway so would follow up directly. Out vet's office got back to us to say that we would need to settle for a standard urn (not our choice - we wanted to bury him) because Gateway had never received our preferences. By this time, Gateway was closed for the weekend, and we were unable to confirm if they had gone ahead without our confirmation. The only reason Gateway is in business is because there are no other pet memorial services in the area. The did not respect our wishes and their service was terrible. read more
