I have heard great things from other parents about Great Hearts schools and wanted to find out for…read moremyself. We applied this year and were fortunate to have been drafted through lottery. My daughter loved her old school and was quite disappointed when we told her that she was going to a new school. However, after 4 months, she has acclimated well and have nothing but good things to say about her teachers and classmates. She finds the work challenging and exciting. The school has taught her and our family a new way to approach reading. They teach Latin and have poetry wars. They also have an after school program that is an extension to their education and not just babysitting. The after school teachers help with homework and pick up is until 6 pm. They also have after school clubs with nominal charge. What is most important to my family was the school's faculty and their program for kids with special needs. My son was diagnosed with a rare disorder in October, that affected him neurologically. Some of the staff from school and after school program visited him, including Mr. Brogran (assistant headmaster). We love his teacher Mrs. Laird. She is a smart, kind, and loving teacher. She visited him in the hospital twice. My son had missed 2 1/2 months of school from being sick. Ms. Ernest (teacher), has been so patient in teaching him at home. She has been an important part of his education. We drive to school at least an hour twice a day, sometimes longer. We decided to move closer to the school since our kids loved being there.

San Antonio Christian Schools (SACS) was once a wonderful school, but sadly, that is no longer the…read morecase. As a parent who invested more than 10 years with multiple children at SACS, I cannot recommend the school today primarily for three reasons. First, tuition has increased significantly in recent years, yet the quality of education has not kept pace. While there are still pockets of excellent teachers who truly love their students and inspire them, these are the exception rather than the rule. For the tuition and additional fees being charged, the academics and overall experience simply do not measure up. Second, the administration is inconsistent, plays favorites and encourages gender discrimination. Certain families and students receive preferential treatment, while others are held to a different standard. Additionally, certain events are marketed based on gender, intentionally excluding the opposite gender. Instead of upholding fairness, the administration regularly chooses self preservation, politics and favoritism. Third, SACS does not partner with parents. Although the school claims it values collaboration, the reality is when parents raise legitimate concerns or attempt to hold leadership accountable, they are quickly silenced. There has been incidents of misconduct by staff towards students as well as sexual harassment claims against a high level administrative staff member, and in all circumstances, claims have been swept under the rug. Staff members that challenge decisions are fired. Families who question decisions or speak out are often placed on a "blacklist". Families, including those with children in good academic and behavioral standing, are prevented from re-enrolling or denied readmission. The message is clear: conform and be silent or get out. In short, SACS today reflects hypocrisy rather than true Christian values. The school promotes itself as providing a faith-based, high-quality education, but the reality is very different. Tuition is too high for what families actually receive, the environment is political and unfair, and the administration does not respect parents as partners in their children's education. If you are considering enrolling your child at SACS, my advice is to look elsewhere. Save your money for a school that offers genuine Christian values, quality academics, integrity, and displays respect for both students and their families.

Some of the "facilitator" staff would yell and berate us verbally picking on personal attributes and private performance information with everybody listening out in open spaces. i can recall a moment when i was on my laptop and i was just playing a game on my free time and i laughed at a joke a teacher made not even provoking him. he then proceeded to announce and i quote "yeah and i laugh the same way when i look at your grades!". situations like that and the degrading treatments i endured linger on me still to this day and it feeds into my paranoia and depression. im genuinely afraid to talk to my professors at the college i attend now because i just have this subconcious fear that im taking up their time and that if they know that i dont understand everything that theyll think less of me and that ill be nothing more then a verbal punching bag in their eyes despite repeated reassurances by the college staff that that isnt how they think but regardless no matter how much they show that theyre happy and willing to help i just cant bring myself to ask them because i think about what would happen if i tried to seek help at afia and choose id rather not bother anybody. any time i see grades and any note left by professors even if positive i cant help but click out before i can read too much; my eyes water regardless of the message. this "school" is a cesspool of unprofessional behaviour and psychological torment and rather contrary to their motto i failed to "belong", i failed to "find joy" even going to the mental hospital to be diagnosed with depression mid school year, and i most certainly did not learn how to "be great" as im left a few months after graduation feeling anything but great and more something around the likes of defeated, irrationally afraid and depressed. on the psychological care side of things there is virtually nothing done to try to help those that are in a poor mental state theres no consideration for the depressed, theres no actions taken to help those overstimulated by struggles in life even if it had the potential to be a danger to oneselves. a unfortunate occurance regarding lack of mental health care and intervention i recall was one time after i came back from the mental hospital scared and barely holding myself together with the persistant and frightening subconcious thoughts, despite establishing the trust issues i had with them historically at the time, i went to the office of one of the administrative staff to maybe seek help and ask what to do as i was afraid to really talk to anyone about it and i was desperate for any lifeline that wouldnt immediately upset and cause turmoil amongst my family and close friends so i sat down in the office with tears falling from my eyes and asked what i should do in case i were to "dissappear", referring to the mental hospital, mentioning explicitly how i didnt feel good in my mind and that i was frightened of what may happen to me. and do you know what the response was? she handed me an agenda and basically told me that i should use it to organize my schedule and in direct response to my comment about myself disappearing said "okay lets not do that". and thats all she said before ushering me out. i conclude my review saying if i could i would leave a lower rating and the fact that they turned off and deleted google reviews is VERY telling. i would never wish to ever experience something like this again and seriously, if braination cares about what little positive reputation this school has left then they must take action now and intensively review the performance of administrative staff of afia. I believe the idea and intention is absolutely wonderful but it just doesnt live up to the promises and so im left traumatized into the start of the real world.

Our kids have been at SPX for 4 years now and plan to continue a few more years through 8th grade. The school has been fantastic for the kids and the family. They have great educators and administrators and strong ties with the church and parish community. They have a new and growing early child development center daycare that looks great. I've heard nothing but good things though my kids did not participate in that. CYO (archdiocese sports league mainly for elementary age kids) is very popular and is very active with lots of great volunteer coaches. It's open to all the community. Our kids loved CYO when they were in elementary and it really helped build community with kids and parents. The gym is top notch as is the softball / soccer field. The school has a lot of electives and activities for the kids to get involved in including but not limited to: art projects, plays, mathletes, RISE, STEM, piano recitals, volunteer opportunities, market day projects, altar serving, stations of the cross, adoration, reconciliation, school Halloween carnival, parish festival, field trips, tours of high schools, athletics, school dances, etc. The PTC does a lot of great things for the teachers and kids through fundraisers (Gala, spirit night, shirt sales, dances, etc.) The Watch DOGS program is active where dads, grandpas, uncles, etc. come and help in classrooms, at lunch, and help make the school day fun and safe. The kids love their teachers and classmates and we couldn't be happier.

Kudos to those who have not experienced anything that "seems odd to say" IM SPEAKING FOR MY EXPERIENCE. The teacher doesn't seem to tolerate my child and speak the truth what's going on behind closed doors, just portray him as a problem when I as a parent took it upon myself to reach out to the office and principal and counselor and receive no help other than him getting negative notes in his folder and all of a sudden, now he's being sent to the office because I mentioned if he was a problem, why hasn't anybody said anything to the front office? I withdrew my child from the school. I have no faith just because they have a cross sitting outside the building do not trust smiley faces. I am disappointed in these adults who are also a grandparents could not help a child of God because they want to keep their image I suppose when we're all supposed to be a community and that picking and choosing who to support and ignore. No need for apologies no need for phone calls. God sees. Do better and good luck on your part to make sure no other family experience what I experienced with this school ever again.

They had a change of a director recently who let me just say is an absolute gem of a human being. She genuinely loves the children and the well-being of the children in school. My older daughter's teacher was fantastic from the get-go and within a few weeks , my speech delayed and extremely shy daughter started talking and thriving! She now won't be quite whereas for the first several weeks, she would not utter a single word. My younger daughter was in the pre primary class and it was an incredible blessing to have a change of staff. The old staff would leave my baby girl at the front door to cry for hours on end and right when I wanted to pull her out, I was informed that her after care teacher would be taking over. Let me just say, that this was the best thing that happened to us. My baby girl who absolutely despised going to school, suddenly began asking me to take her to school so she can see her "teacher". Ms. Vanessa genuinely bonded with their kids and created an experience of true joy for the kids and I am forever grateful for this transformation my daughter underwent! The after care staff has also been amazing as well! Ms. Grace, Ms. Alexis are champs for being so patient with the kiddos and engaging in creative activities. My kids are thriving and it's all because of the environment the new director, Ms. Erika created. Her number one concern is the well being of the kiddos and she is incredibly hands on! She has an incredible relationship with them and is actually one of the people my kids can't stop talking about! As long as she and her staff stay on board, I highly recommend this particular location!
