What a great collection of cars!! A must see when your visiting the resort!! I was especially awed by the gold olds mobile 88!!! Concept car!

Not only were the cars inside the museum interesting the cars parked outside the museum are interesting!

I've been to a few car museums and this was the first one that had more of a gallery style display rather than a garage style set up. You can tell John Hendrix was in the cable business as the cars seem to be in movie sets. It is a really cool museum. Literally the AC is amazing! There are lots of interesting cars. It is on the grounds of the gateway Canyon resort. Most of Gateway Colorado seems to be part of the resort. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. There is small & cute gift shop which my sons enjoyed.

An absolute exquisite automobile collection, very well rounded, friendly staff and memorabilia to boot. The one and only Oldsmobile 88 on display on a full turntable and room all to itself with pictures of how it was built and designed, truly a work of art. Not just the gateway auto museum but the gateway canyons resort in itself is a wonderful getaway for the entire family. Highly recommended A+.

The museum and the best way to get there

The drive - or better yet the ride - to Gateway is nothing short of spectacular, especially if you're coming from Whitewater. Motorists should watch out for riders, because we love this road! The museum just announced staff cutbacks and even shorter winter hours so make sure you call ahead if you want to see the cars. The entrance fee is $9.00, and on the afternoon I went, I was the only taker. There were Harley riders everywhere, but I guess their love for classic American iron does not extend to four wheels. The collection is amazing and the cars look fabulous. The restoration work looks very good to excellent in almost every case and the presentations, aided by dramatic lighting, show the cars at their best. Some of the working displays are really lame and should be upgraded or removed. The best of show here is a gold Olds concept car that was meant to compete with the Corvette but was never mass produced. It even gets its own room and a rotating presentation. European car buffs will be sadly disappointed, it's all about the celebration of the American car here, from its earliest beginnings to the owner's Tesla Roadster which he parks in the lobby. If it's important to keep this place all American, I suggest one of the Ferrari eating Ford GT40s from 1968 or 69. I'd go back for that.

Moab Museum - The story about recreation in Moab

There was minimal focus on the Settlers and the founding of the town. There was not much history telling daily life of the settlers before the uranium discovery. There was barely any mention of surrounding environment and the native Americans relationships to the settlers. Overall, it was a good way to spend an hour to an hour and a half. Admission price was $10 for adult and $8 for Senor. Free parking in front of the museum.

Aside from modern day Moab being a big tourist destination and jumping off point for adventures in places like Arches NP and Canyonlands NP I didn't know much about its origins so I was excited to visit the Moab Museum. The museum is one large room and while you can view the exhibits in any order I found it was best to start at the very beginning and work my way clockwise. The museum starts with the indigenous people who lived in modern day Moab and ends with Moab being central to two national parks and a recreation hub. Missionaries, fur trappers, cowboys, miners, adventurists and dinosaurs were all covered in between. My favorite exhibit was about William Grandstaff. The exhibit called "Tracing the Story of William Grandstaff" traces his roots from likely being enslaved in Virginia to becoming a Civil War era soldier, frontiersmen, pioneer, cowboy, miner and saloon manager in Utah and Colorado. I love when museums leave me wanting to know more and William Grandstaff is definitely someone who'd I'd like to learn more about. I'd also like to hike the trail named in his honor - the Grandstaff Trail in Grandstaff Canyon. One of the best features of the museum were historical pictures of the Moab area that you could scroll through on a tablet. The photos really helped me understand the history of Moab. Admission was $10 for an adult and I felt it was well worth it. The museum has a good bit of reading, some artifacts and a few interactive exhibits sprinkled in so some kids might be a little bored but I really enjoyed it. Kids 7 and under visit for free and students are $8.

The small gift shop is charming and has a number of books and periodicals of the town's history that may be difficult to find elsewhere. For a nominal entrance fee, you can easily spend an enjoyable hour or two learning the history of this great town. There is also a museum donation canister at the entrance way, which I gladly deposited additional money in as I finished my tour as it was definitely worth it!

I've never really thought twice about calling it quits after exploring a wing or two at the Met or the Louvre. But, even at a substantially more modest venue like the John Wesley Powell River History Museum, I probably only really paid attention to about half of its contents before hitting my limit. The highlights I appreciated most were the informative video that explained the historical significance of The Major and his nearby explorations, the replicas of various river craft, and the totally unexpected mini-dinosaur exhibit on the lower level. The latter is tucked away in a room behind the stairs and is otherwise easy to miss if you don't bother actually walking down. We probably wouldn't have considered stopping by this museum if not for the recommendation from the staffer at the Torrey visitor center. If you're passing through, it's definitely worth an hour or two pitstop and the nominal $6 entry fee per adult.

We stumbled upon this museum and we were interested in seeing what they had to offer. It was a mining museum that had collections of rocks and minerals, uniforms and tools used by the miners and other items that were interesting. For those folks that need it, they do have a small elevator. This is also next to the restroom on the lower floor. Besides the rock/mineral room, I found the assay section interesting, where they had scales and weights used to weight the gold or minerals mined. In the gift shop I found two rocks I liked and bought them and a few postcards. Included in the tour is a visit to the jail and the quarters for the acting sherriff. The sherriff quarters had glimpses of a typical bedroom and kitchen for the late 1800's. My sister went to the jail and she said it was an open room with an iron ball with lots of chains to connect the prisoners to. Outside the jail is caboose used to haul minerals from the mines.

While restaurants and shops in Silverton were open post COVID, doing business carefully with social distancing, mandatory masks, limited capacity and so forth, this museum is closed :(( I think it's a huge miss because tourists could bring some much needed funds, if they were only given a chance. While perusing around the museum's grounds we witnessed other 3 cars stopping by and trying to visit to no avail. I wish I could give them more stars, but I am literally giving them one star each for the two things we were able to visit...the train car from the Durango & Silverton railroad and the grounds we strolled upon.
