Whenever I am in Denver I always go to this Russian store. It's big and has everything you are looking for in a Russian store. I always bring back half a suitcase of dry salami, candies, canned goods, and breads. People are very nice and happy to help you. read more

It's one of the larger European stores I've been to, but that doesn't mean much. The staff was friendly, and the prices are good with a nice selection of different foods. However, the place was dirty. There was stuff all over the floor. The glass on the coolers and deli was dirty. They did have Kinder Eggs which brought me back to when I was a kid in Germany. Staff doesn't seem to speak English either. I asked if they could place specialty orders from their supplier, I've been having a hankering for some Austrian soda. She didn't understand. I said my thanks and left. I'd go back around Christmas just to see, if they have anything else. It's an alright little European market but it could use a good cleaning. read more

Hidden in a small shopping strip, this small Russian store has a little bit of everything, and a great candy isle! We got the dumplings, which were delicious and some candy. The real star of the show was their smoked salmon! Holy moly, was it fresh and perfectly fatty. If I am ever in the area again I will definitely come back for the salmon! I am in Russian food heaven! This place has been on my list to try since I have lived near by and I'm so glad I finally got to go!! They have every Russian staple I've been craving and more! I was very pleasantly surprised with this store. Usually Eastern European/Russian stores are pretty tiny but Gastronom has a wonderful space packed with all the delicious goodies! Their deli section does seem a bit smaller than I am used to seeing at other Russian stores but they do have a different selection of fish, sweets, and marinated goods that I haven't seen anywhere else. Everyone was very friendly and helpful as well! I wish the store was closer to me so I would visit it more often as it does have some items that you can't find at other Russian stores. I definitely recommend checking it out - if you are not sure what to get, just ask for help or go with sweets :) read more

After living in Far East Russia for the last six years, we were delighted to find this market to help ease 'homesickness pangs' upon our return to the US. Upon entry, we felt immediately at home and were happy to hear and use our Russian with other customers and the staff. Upon the shelves we have found our favorite tea, fresh smetana, handmade pelmeni, rye flour, oat biscuits, familiar sweets and chocolates, even Uncle Vanya brand pickles! The prices seem very reasonable and it is clear that to me that much time is spent on curating stock. And, yes, you may need to step past an open box during stocking and it can be tight quarters but the warmth we have experienced on our shopping trips there counters out those minor inconveniences. I am headed there again today to see what surprises await me on the shelves! read more

This is a really neat little Russian grocery in Arvada. It is in the same shopping center as a Russian bakery that we stopped in at as well (more on that later). My partner was a Russian literature minor in college and lived in Russia both in high school (1991) and college (1997) and we stumbled upon this place after we went to the Ukraine Market (about two blocks north on Ralston). This store is clean and well kept and the Russian gentleman was quite friendly (even gave my twin girls a couple of little cucumbers in a bag) and helpful. This had been our third European/Russian market today and my partner was pleasantly surprised by the selection of goods that she recognized from Russia and Eastern Europe! They even carried the Georgian sparkling water in six packs of two liter bottles. She said it was the same water she brushed her teeth with and drank while in Russia all those years back because back then, the tap water was quite unsafe to use without boiling. Our kids got a kick out of watching her try and describe what it was like to brush your teeth with carbonated water! We purchased some "Canadian-style" sour cream, some tomato paste based condiment that my partner said they ate over pierogis in Russia, a huge jar of rose hip jam (I wanted to try something different and that sounded pretty good) and of course, my girls' coveted (and free) cucumbers. We will certainly return to try out some of the pastries and meats/cheeses (the polish cheese sold at Sawa is also sold here and is about $2.50 a pound cheaper!!). Can't wait to try this rose hip jam out in some of my homemade kolaches! read more

I am new to the area but not to Russian stores. I have lived in 9 states over the past 20 years and frequent Russian stores often. I would put this one as slightly below average. The place was not very well organized and lots of products were not marked or priced. The service was very slow. The guy working the front did not wash his hands and was reusing gloves for Deli meats and cheeses. Very unsanitary in general. read more

I totally loved this place! The service was really friendly and the guy was telling me about the different foods they offer. I picked up a few vegetable spreads, some that I recognized and some that I didn't. Many of them are vegan and my favorite is a rice and veggie mixture in a glass jar. It has like 5 ingredients but was SOOO good. I was really hoping to get the fried cabbage and potato bread things (they looked like empanadas) but they hadn't arrived yet. I have been here four times in the past week and a half! I met an awesome woman while we were waiting in line and I asked her to ask the gentleman working to get me a slice of the amazing cake I seen and she actually bought me the rest of this amazing cake as a Christmas gift! I swear it's the stuff like that that gives me hope for humanity! I love this market and will for sure be going back again soon! They have awesome cakes, wide selection of bulk candies ranging from $2.99-$8.99 per pound and it's honestly so so so worth it! I cut soap as a hobby when I am stressing out of just need something to help my anxiety and I got tired of cutting the same ol soaps you find everywhere and to my surprise they had a few Russian soaps! So I've bought around 8-9 bars of Russian soap to cut and I'm so thankful for really everything the market has to offer and I appreciate them so much!!! I have gone to Gastronom for my usual Russian food run for a while now and I am delighted that they have begun to expand their menu selections! I usually want to get a variety of items - soda, chocolates, etc. and now they are carrying a far wider array of prepared foods as well! I teach Russian and have a traditional meal for my students once a semester - Gastronom is my new go to for all the traditional salads as well as fantastic baked goods! Ordering was super easy, the owners extremely customer oriented and the food simply wonderful. So glad I don't have to drive to South Denver to my Russian food fix! read more

Went to our local Russian deli, "European Delicious" (AKA Gastronom) in Arvada yesterday, just to pick up some Tzar Nicholas tea, and an hour later, I came out with two huge, heavy shopping bags of goodies. What a treat! Located on a hard-to-reach street off Ralston Road, this place has anything you can imagine, from pickled herrings and sprats from "the icy Baltic waters" off Latvia, dried or pickled wild forest mushrooms, to Lithuanian bread (fresh, not frozen), to what I'd consider bruschetta toppings from Armenia, Rumania, and Bulgaria (southern Danube region), every imaginable tea from all over Russia, and homemade goodies by local ladies, like Russian versions of empanadas and pasties, to pelmini (Russian tortellini), to rugulas made with strawberries - all varying with the seasons. Reviewing Cyrillic doesn't help much because every nation names the same thing something different - what's "zakuska" in Hungarian is "ajvar" in Croatian. But it's a really fun experience away from the shopping crowds, and it had what I needed to complete our Kucios menu for Christmas Eve. read more
