Seeing that bigeoghanwhelan's recommendation is from 2008, it might be good to have a fresh update. The good news is that Zur Rippe stille is a great place to visit.
I too stumbled over the place, after searching for another place in the neighbourhood, and finding out that it was closed because it was sunday.
I took a look inside Zur Rippe, and since it was nearly full, which is normaly a good sign, and seeing that many of the guests were locals, I decided to stay, and I certainly did not regret it.
The grilled pigs foot was also my choice, (actually I think Schweinshaxen is the piece just over the pigs foot), since it was on offer with mustard and three slices of bread (of which I ate one, just to show my good will), plus a big glass of pilsener beer for only 9,90 Euro !
And it was deeelicious !!
I do not know how bigeoghanwhelan was able to try both starters and deserts, since I was absolutely stuffed just eating the pigs foot ! The portions are really still on the large side, the staff very friendly, and the food delicious, so the place is still worth a big recommandation if you fancy good solid german food such as Eisbien mit sauerkraut, Schweinshaxen and the like.
By coincidence I was i the neighbourhood late afternoon the following day, and after i short internal dispute with myself, whether I ought to try something else, or I could have the same two days in a row, the schweinshaxen won. And it was if possible even better than the first day, since the skin was crisp and the taste, to die for ! read more
