This store is definitely smaller than their two story store in Oxford that we got to visit early in my trip, but there was plenty of gifts to select from for kids. As this store is in the airport, it is tax free, so their prices are lower than their High Street prices. It was so hard to choose as they had so many cute stuff, but I settled on a fabric, not plastic, backpack for my niece. It's printed with red telephone boxes and Buckingham Palace guards. She'll love it! My nephew will be starting kindergarten very soon, so I got him a pencil case with a similar design as my niece's backpack. I also got a small backpack key chain for my friend's daughter. They do have stuff for adults as well--bags for all purposes, hand creams and lotions and travel accessories. Some have classic London icons on them, but this is so tastefully done that they don't look like tacky, as lots of souvenirs can be. If you're paying by credit card, you can choose to pay by GBP or USD. Many stores in London and beyond offer this service and I find that the exchange rate that they give you is pretty competitive, around 1.32. This would definitely be the way to go if your card charges a foreign exchange fee. Mine doesn't so it may be that my credit card may have a better exchange rate than the store's bank. You can also also choose to pay in USD cash. So if you need to shop for more gifts, stop by here!

You're greeted and assisted immediately and even while you're browsing around, employees check up on you. There's a good variety of handbags, accessories and shoes to choose from, as well as their one of a kind blue crocodile handbag (only one in the world). It's obviously a high designer so expensive, however London does not have tax so you actually save some money compared to purchasing in the USA.

Not so with the Perfume Gallery, a store which smells incredibly pleasant. Though it must be said it does get a bit much with anything more than five people making use of the available testers. The latest fragrances for men and women are generally very affordable in the UK. The Perfume Gallery adds another notch to this bedpost because everything is tax free. It's also not often that a gift of a fragrance is frowned upon, especially if it's a fragrance by one of the world's big names. Get all those names and much more at the Perfume Gallery: not even Nature in all its glory smells this good.

The shop was small with cases of one of a kind artisan jewelry. Thick gold rings and bracelets and mostly precious metals. The clerks were not anxious to wait on me. I must have not looked like a serious shopper. Or perhaps they were busy with Valentine shoppers. In any case, their target audience is the impulse buyer internationally entourage. All the shops are duty free so you save on tax. I left empty handed but carried a few sparkly dreams away.

There is NO WAY to avoid the Duty Free shops at London Heathrow Airport. The duty free area is…read moremassive - kind of like an American mall except it's louder and more garish than most malls. There's lots of noise and bright lights so it's not a particularly pleasant area to wait until you get a gate assignment. The duty free area includes ALL of the high-end retail chains (including many foreign based retailers I've never heard of). If you're a shopper or like to browse, this area would be like nivarana to you. If you're just interested in an easy connection/departure (like me), this is not a "happy place".

At some of the airports we ended up needing to go through security again and liquids were not allowed- I'm not sure if having a sealed "duty free" bag would allow those items or if you would have to toss them. We ended up buying Fortnum and Mason biscuits and tea which was a good price. It was nice that they had a great variety of the items and the World Duty Free store was a lot less busy than when we visited the actual Fortnum and Mason store. This is a convenient place for last minute gifts or for caving in and grabbing a few more of your favorites before you head out. They had self checkout kiosks and when we were there everything was well stocked, clean and not too busy.
