I also got a debt collection notice SIX MONTHS LATER for not paying a connection "fee" but have never been contacted about the debt collection. If you have any choice in the matter, pick another provider. If not, save ALL bills even for years afterwards. They will attempt to retroactively alter the plan you were on and then turn accounts over to collections, in my case, 8 years later. April 9, 2025, I am notified by Experian and Equifax that a collection account has been reported by a collection agency called "Transworld". I have never been contacted by them to dispute this debt. I reached out to Gas South the same day via email. A Gas South representative responded and stated that the $500 debt in question was accrued from 2016-2017. This alone makes it ineligible for credit bureau reporting. Secondly, it is not owed at all. I had Gas South service from 2016-2022 at the same address. It is absurd to suggest that somehow Gas South allowed a customer to carry a $500 balance that never got paid, month after month for 5 years! Especially when their own website states that past dude balances are subject to disconnection after going unpaid. By this policy, my service should have been disconnected in 2017, 2018, 2019,2020. But it wasn't. It was disconnected in June 2021. In order to reconnect, I had to pay the past due amount which I did and service was restored. I paid all past due balance upon reconnection. Therefore, there was no $500 balance from 2017. At no time did Gas South reach out to me using the same email I currently use that was also the email my account was established under. I never received a past due bill from 2017-2022 nor was I ever contacted by any collection agency in order to dispute the validity of this debt. Rather, 8 years after this account allegedly becoming $500 past due, a collection agency reports this as a new unpaid debt. It is neither new nor is it an unpaid debt. I have filed disputes with the credit bureaus, the CFPB and with the BBB. I will continue to pursue all available options until this matter is resolved. These companies have failed to follow the guidelines set forth in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and need to be held accountable. read more

I have been a Gas South Customer for 10 years now. I have not missed one single payment or ever asked for an extension of time to pay my bill. To be honest, we have direct deposit setup for my account. This last billing cycle was the largest amount I have ever seen, almost 300.00. We are like most American's right, counting pennies and cutting to make ends meet. This being the first time I have ever called the company to inquire about the bill and if there was a way to pay parts due to limited finances at the time of the bill. The rep took us off direct deposit and explained that we could have the entire month to pay off the bill. At the time, we (my wife and I) felt relieved. Then within a week, we got two phone calls demanding the payment and early in the following week, we also got a letter in the mail explaining now, that the company would be cutting off our gas service within the next cycle if we failed to pay the bill immediately. My wife and I were stunned, because we thought we had time and we thought the company knew from the discussion with the rep on a recorded phone line that everything was set for us to pay by the end of the month. All we got was threats instead of customer service. I understand that a company has to do what it needs to do, but it is not like we are constantly delinquent on our bills. This is our first and only time doing this...mind you too, on the phone call with the rep we also setup our Gas South Contract for a year. So again, totally blind sighted. read more

I am absolutely floored by Gas South's gouging variable rate plans. I have always been on the lowest plan and it is appalling that they have cheaper options but if you forget to sign up for a plan, they automatically transfer you to their variable rate plan. INSTEAD OF LEAVING YOU ENROLLED IN THE LOWEST RATE PLAN! I have purposely not run my heat at high temps to conserve, and my husband always freezes in his home as a result! Yet, my bill was $500+ for one month! No way was usage that astronomical -- the rate was! It went from ~$.65 to ~$1.99!!!! That is punitive and it is wrong. Why NOT keep customers in the current low-cost plan, especially if they're enrolled in auto-pay (which is how they can easily slip these astronomical charges on you!) and always paying on time, instead of requiring that they reenroll in a plan?? This is a sneaky practice. It's punitive. And it's wrong. And the next month's billing is likely to be a repeat (or even higher). This is an abomination and it's wrong. I see where they scam people out of money. I have been living in the house for 3 years and not once was our gas bill over $187, which was a January month. Then when I move out and discontinue my service, all of sudden my final bill is $383... I called and they guy was pretty smart ass with me and told me since we discontinued our service they changed our rates to a variable rate and the rate was high per gas usage. I contacted Gas South in February to set up a payment arrangement for Feb/March bills which was extremely higher than I usually pay. My bills went from around $100.00 or lower to now 611.00. Additionally, they claimed I had not selected a new rate, which is not true. Imagine my surprise and shock when I received a disconnect noticed. Alarmed, I called Gas South and a representative assured me this was a mistake and confirmed that I had an agreement. Nevertheless, my service was turned off Thursday, March 14! I called them on Saturday and talked to another representative who was very helpful who gave me the first available appointment that following Monday and offered me a reconnection credit. Yet, that does not begin to resolve the personal and professional cost of not having water or access to cook meals. I was seriously inconvienced, compromised, and very upset that Gas South did not honor their OWN agreement to me--the customer. I have been in constant communication to get the bill resolved. Meanwhile, they want me to pay the agreement amount by March 28th, 2024, yet I sent them a grievance complaint stating the desired outcome and a prompt response. To date, NOTHING. Additionally, I am receiving more reminders about my payment arrangment--which substantiates my case--and in the same letter, the threat of disconnection. I have never had any problems with them or paying my bill until now. I would not recommend Gas South to future customers. They are a nightmare to deal with and do not own their errors, miscommunications and will ignore your request for resolution. read more

The company emails the late date of your utilitlies but will use the post office to mail the disconnect date that you clearly will never receive because it's the post office and then cut you off on the later part of the week and they clearly know Atlanta Gas and Light who they contract out to can only service you mon-Friday and not same day service so your going five days without hot water or use of your stove. People want to pay but the economy doesn't allow you to pay on time as you would like . I know I owe but there practice is set up for them to win it's also like they want to teach there clients a lesson to pay on time in which if it was possible I could have then you have to stay home away from work so you can get reconnected . My 1st year of service was great, my bill rarely went over $50. Then, it came time to renew, which I did, locking in at just over 60 cents per therm. Then, my bill started going up, $70 then $90 to $128. When I started wondering why because my oven had been broken for over a month, I called and they said they had added a 'pass through' charge, and that was more than the gas itself! Now, my bill is $175 when this time last year it was $50!! If you do choose this company, leave after your initial agreement because they are thieves!! I just did the OnePrice estimate and got a rate of $135/mo. or 1,620/yr. In the last 12 months, we used about 887 therms. This plan would cost us $1.826/therm...more than triple what we paid last year. That's crazy! It makes their 1 Year Fixed Rate of $1.090 look like a bargain (.736 LESS per therm), which it is not since that rate is 91.56% higher than what we paid last year with GNG (0.569/therm). What gives? BTW, I checked my neighbors' OnePrice rates, and they were as low as $95/mo. or $1,140/yr. Still not great, but better than mine. So how does Gas South calculate this rate? Our homes are about the same size; but we only have two people in our household, so we don't use as much natural gas as these larger families. At any rate, this plan comes out to 1.310/therm at the lower price of $95/mo., which is still higher than their fixed rate plans. Their website states, "No gimmicks. No Deposit. No Hassle." I beg to differ. I gave Gas South 3 stars because it seems like all the other big providers (GNG, SCANA, Walton EMC) are priced about the same. Moreover, they're moving to 2, 3 and 5 year lock in commitments. Seems nuts to lock in at these prices for that length of time. Service at GS is fine, but this OnePrice rate plan is the biggest gimmick and ripoff ever! read more

Fast set up with the price. A friendly sales representative answered my call within a minute on a Saturday afternoon. I was happy with my service for 3 years, yet my fixed therm rate was about to end at the end of the month. I notified the rep of the competitor's rate and my hopes to retain Gas South if they were to provide a fair price. Hopefully lower than the competition, since I was already a customer. A fair price (lower) was offered and within 3 minutes of calling, the new rate was set. I have not had any issues with the gas service or billing during the past 3.5 years with Gas South. They tripled my rate and bill on me suddenly after the first year of service expired. For example my bill last March was $51 and this March it is $245. So I checked my bill and they have me at about 1.51 per therm. Then they added a fraudulent $10 late fee, but I'm on auto-pay and have never been late! I will call them in the morning. Before dinner, I sat down to do bills. As a lot of Americans are right now, we are living paycheck to paycheck. I saw the minimum due finished dinner and went back to pay it. While I was doing dishes, I noticed the water was cold, but the kids were playing in the water so I didn't think anything of it. when I went to pay the bill the minimum amount to pay had doubled. The date due to pay was the current day. I fully understood that if I didn't pay it by tonight, tomorrow the gas will be shut off because the due date was today. Putting two and two together I went outside and checked my gas meter. Well, they shut the gas off today. There was no notification left. There was no notification on the app or website. the websites not even showing it disconnected. My guess is one of the technicians didn't wanna have to deal with it tomorrow, so they just went ahead and did it today. I was home all day. The hot water was working up until about 5pm. Sounds like some technician didn't want to be at work late on a Friday or plans on calling out tomorrow. Even if it is their mistake, I sure as heck can promise you they're gonna make me pay all the fees to reconnect it even though I was trying to pay it before the scheduled disconnection. Now I will have to wait a week to pay the new amount because we are on a tight budget. And then I will have to probably wait another 3 to 5 days to have it reconnected. Thank God we no longer have gas heat and it's not the winter all our appliances are electric. Thank God I live down the road from family members where I can take my children to go take a shower and we can all shower. Absolutely criminal. you can't set up payment for a future date. The app and the website is an absolute joke. You can tell the employees feel terrible about having to do this to people in this economy, but I was also told by an employee that they are absolutely not able to work with anybody. I recently did a deep dive into gas service providers in GA - had a huge gas bill and took the time to understand my usage, all of the charges, and ;pick a rate plan that would cut my bill in half. Gas South was incredibly HELPFUL in answering all of my questions and giving me all of the information I needed to make an informed decision. The Therm charges are only half your concern - AGL is the main culprit and there is nothing that we can do about their pass through charges. I went with a one price monthly plan and did an annual analysis going back 3 years - it was the best option for us by far. I looked at the other providers such as Constellation and Xoom - too many hidden fees, light on customer service and not the track record that Gas South has - I recommend GS. read more

Gas South sent me a bill of $280 for December but yet the bill date is 12/06/2021. How can they overcharge for a service that has not happened yet? My regular bills are less than $100 even during summertime, and this is for a two-bedroom home less than 1000sq ft, and I keep my heater on 68 maximum 72 on the days that are below 30F. The townhouse that I own is bigger than this house I also pay around 75 and 85, why is Gas South cheating? I pay my bills on time, there are no late fees. Gas South has left my family and I without gas to heat our home amidst the biggest snow storm in years. They showed up 4 hours before scheduled time, the technician did not once call to say they were on the way, that they arrived to the property, or before they departed the property. After speaking with Juanita, Juanita could not get the technician to cut on the gas nor did she attempt to resolve the issue and stated in the call, "that's too bad." We discovered that Gas South is absolutely helpless, careless and lazy. Due to this lack of care for Gas South's customers, we now have busted pipes, still no gas on, and can not get gas until Tuesday morning. I will be giving this review to the local news station, google page, Facebook page, and local newspapers to share my horrendous experience with Gas South's field and customer service. I will also be speaking with my attorney on pressing charges for the lack of Gas South's service after I paid the fees for them to have this service completed Friday 1/14/2022 between the hours of 12 and 4, as stated in the initial service request. It's ridiculous. It also turns out Atlanta gas and light are the only ones that can turn on and cut off our gas. THATS WHERE THE FEES ARE COMING FROM AGL= ATLANTA GAS LIGHT!!!! They are the only company that provides gas to all the other gas companies in metro Atlanta! They are also the main cause for all the fees!!!
