Garys' installed a new HVAC unit at my home. I got 4 quotes and they were within $100 of the other three in terms of cost but had a higher quality (Carrier) unit they were offering vs. the other bidders. They spent considerable time with me explaining how to compare units, what size I would need and other things that frankly, I would never have otherwise understood. They were able to remove my old unit and install the new one in a day. The new unit has been EXCELLENT this long, hot, summer---quiet, efficient and economical to operate. The technicians they sent out were friendly and knowledgeable and kept me informed all during the process. I really can't say enough good about this local, small business. Our AC went out on Sunday. Gary's sent Michael to diagnose the system. Unfortunately, it wasn't a simple fix. The inverter board had failed. Sunday evening was tolerable and stay close to comfortable. Monday, after Gary's spent most of the day trying to find the part, no luck. The factory had 297 on back order. Gary's brought out a few portable AC units to help cool us a bit. They contacted the factory to try a get one from production. Today, Tuesday the 26 of July, our unit is back up and cooling. They received a board this morning and had it installed by 2 pm. Cannot ask for any better customer service than this. Big thanks to Michael, Andrew, and Nick for doing everything possible and getting us cool again. Sorry Michael, I'll stay a Poke's fan. read more

I'm sure that they can install an ac fine, but they sent out a guy to check our ac and they said it was impossible to fix quote 20k for new unit. Saying it could not be repaired. I paid 100.00 for them to lie to me and try and sale me an ac unit I did not need. I had it fixed for 100.00 from another company and it only needed a capacitor. Do your homework they will rip you off. read more

The technician arrived on time, was professional, and completed the work in 45 minutes. When I saw the bill for $787 I asked the technician how much the motor cost. He did not tell me the price, this is when I knew something was off. I researched the cost of the motor and on the high end it costs $130. So, I was charged $99 for a diagnostic fee and $688 for the replacement of the motor. If you do the math, I ended up paying $558 for 45 worth of labor. SCAM ALERT! I was having a problem with my furnace coming on but then it would shut off after a few seconds. I called Gary's. When the technician came I sat in my living room while he looked at the furnace in the hallway. When he was finished he said it was not very good news. He showed me a video that he said was taken of the inside of my furnace. He showed me a picture of what was supposed to be a cracked heat exchanger. He said it was leaking carbon monoxide and could be deadly. He recommended that I replace my furnace and A/C unit-which would cost around $6,000. Another option I was given was to do a couple of repairs-costing almost $1,000 but that would only buy me another year before I would need to replace the furnace. This false information by Gary's cost me $69. I began calling around to get some quotes for a new heating/air system. Another company came over to give me a quote. When they came in they took the front off the furnace and began looking it over. He sprayed some pressurized air in the furnace. Then he turned the heater on and it worked perfectly. It wasn't shutting off after a few seconds like it had been before. He said the only thing that was wrong with it was a dirty heat sensor. He also explained to me that if I had a cracked heat exchanger that the fire would be shooting out of the furnace back at me-it wasn't. I appreciated that they took the time to educate me on what to look for so I wouldn't be conned again. This company did not charge me a dime and my heater was working just fine again. When I started thinking about the visit by Gary's I realized that since I didn't actually watch him run the camera through my furnace, the video/picture he showed me may not have even been my furnace. My father-in-law is HVAC certified so I had him come over and he verified what I was told by the second company. Also, I have a carbon monoxide detector in the hallway just a few feet from the furnace and it has not alarmed even 1 time so I highly doubt that carbon monoxide is being leaked out of the furnace. If you have work done by this company, BEWARE!!! You need to watch them like a hawk and if they recommend costly work to be done, get as many estimates/opinions as you can. 11/24/2014 Edited to add: I received this response from Gary's Heating and Air when I left a review on Facebook. I looked back at the option sheet for your job and he did give cleaning the flame sensor an option but it was with several other options that was probably overwhelming and confusing. I called Gary's to fix our AC only because when purchasing our house the title company told us we had to as there was a warranty through them. I explained this to them over the phone and she told me that since the AC was only a year old we should be covered. I agreed and the tech was sent out. 7 hours later the tech shows up, turns out it was a simple clog in the drain pipe so the pan filled with water and tripped the safety switch. 2 minute fix. He called his manager, then without giving me a price proceeded to blow the pipe out. At this point I'm thinking the warranty must have covered it if he didn't quote a price, but once he was done he proceeded to inform me that since it wasn't a manufacturer's defect the warranty would not cover it and we now owe $160! $160 for a simple fix that I could have easily done AFTER they lead me to believe our warranty would cover it!! On top of that I found out that our home warranty would have covered it and we would not have had to pay a cent, but I had called Gary's only because the Title Company told us that we had to. The tech also tried to up sell us some $60 tablets so this didn't happen again, and said the way our system is set up we would not be able to fix it and would have to call them every time if we didn't purchase from them. This is NOT true. We are NOT satisfied with the "service" we received from Gary's, and feel cheated, ripped off, and lied to. If you have HVAC problems, do yourself a favor and don't call Gary's. read more

Made an appointment, and confirmed with the service tech, at approx. 3pm, told me I was the next call, after waiting 3 1/2 hours, I called the service tech back, and asked if he forgot me, he said he had to make a few calls before me, but said he didn't forget me, and said that he would still come to my house, at 8pm he called me said he just couldn't get to me. I called Gary's based on comments made on Nextdoor. Although the technician arrived on time, was professional, and completed the work, I have since been informed by friends and acquaintances that this company is one of the highest priced in town. I ended up paying $705 for the replacement of a condenser fan motor and a diagnostic fee. After the fact, a friend informed me that a condenser motor costs between $36 and $98, depending on which one you need. The technician said that due to the age of the unit, it probably won't last much longer. I asked him how much a new unit would cost for my house (1300 sq ft), and he said around $14,000! I told him I would sit and sweat before I pay that much money for an AC unit. I called my daughter who lives in Seattle, and they had a unit installed in a 4,500 sq ft house that has never had an AC. They paid $7,300!!!! When I told the technician this, he said "well, we definitely aren't the cheapest in town". That is a gross understatement. I do appreciate his professionalism and his hard work, but this company is way too proud of their services. I just spent $705 on services that I'm sure I could have had completed for much less by just as reliable a company as them. I won't be using them again. read more

We have always had such a great experience with garys!!! We had a new system put in while i was 8 months pregnant!! I also had a 23 month old at home! We had our older system checked and it was not working correctly and we had carbon monoxide leaking they caught it and had a new system placed within the week!!! The service was fantastic!!!
