We hired Gary to landscape our back yard (including installing a water feature, dry creek and low voltage lighting), as well as refresh our front yard. The back yard is a masterpiece. We were able to collaborate on a vision and its execution exceeded my expectations - it's insanely beautiful and peaceful, day and night. The lush (yet drought tolerant) landscape using a stunning water feature as a focal point really changed the way we interact with and enjoy the yard. Gary took obvious care in curating individual plants. Over the course of the project we looked forward to seeing what he might show up with. He could've done the easy thing and get a truckful of commonly available plants, but there was particular care in identifying plants that fit our "arid tropical" theme while attracting birds and butterflies, and all the feature plants were beautiful specimens. We did go over budget more than we expected to; expect Gary to be a bit haphazard about keeping up on budget until the end, but be assured extra costs are generally defensible. The overall timeline for completing the work was longer than we would've thought but allowed us extra time to give input to the evolution of the yard design, so that really worked for us. Gary is awesome! He turned our eyesore of a front yard into a thing of beauty. I have even seen other people taking pictures of our yard. With a master's degree in horticulture, Gary knows his plants. He is super knowledgeable about native plants, using drought resistant species, and still making your yard look pretty. Gary put in a sprinkler system, installed accent lighting and built us a great retaining wall. We hired Gary to landscape our front yard. A huge tree had fallen and destroyed our lawn and fence so we decided to take the opportunity to start fresh. He did a wonderful job picking out plants and listening to our wants. The yard looks beautiful. We also had him patch up our fence, repaint it. We added a second entrance/gate for better access and had Gary add some Arizona flagstones for this new pathway. He also trimmed an existing tree (that was a massive job). We added more lighting. His crew worked diligently and we're very thorough. He was one of the more reasonable quotes we got initially, but we kept adding things and asking for more so we went over budget in the end. Gary's work is great. He really takes pride in his work and is very easy to talk to when concerns arise. He is very honest and very reasonably priced. He has a contractor's license and a masters degree in horticulture. He came out to our property multiple times to take measurements before giving us an estimate which I appreciated because many landscapers seemed to pull their estimates out of the air. We had him remodel our front and back yards by adding many plants, building fences around our property and a constructing a bench by the pool. He also leveled the ground in our backyard to make it more user friendly. He also installed sprinklers and lights all over. We have received may compliments on his work. We went about 25% over budget because we made many additions to the job because we were pleased with the work. All this was easy to do because we felt Gary was a very honest, genuinely good person. My yard was large and in disrepair. After Gary and his crew finished, it is so beautiful. Now this garden draws a whole new ecosystem of birds, bees and butterflies. We hired Gary for new landscaping and to plant a small edible garden. After an initial burst of hard work by his workers, the last segments of the job were performed very slowly and seemingly without much planning. I had to ask for certain things to be done several times and still were not done. He also was not skilled in the edible garden planting; he planted way too many things in a small space and didn't use appropriate soil. I have had to hire edible garden specialists who had to pull out many things I had just paid Gary to plant because they were inappropriate for the space and were put in at the wrong season. A few years ago we remoded our home and wanted to replace our front lawn. We knew that we wanted drought resistant native plants and succulents. However, we did not have the knowledge to visualize what we wanted. Gary came and listened to us a few times, then came up with a beautiful plan. He brought in plants from the Americas, Australia and South Africa. I had no idea that these types of plants would produce such beautiful flowers. Gary also designed and built a lovely fountain as the centerpiece of the yard. He laid the sprinkling system, installed the lights and placed walking stones to compliment our newly renovated home. The garden is now mature and gorgeous. It is visited by bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other birds on a daily basis; I have even seen a monarch butterfly recently.
