But like swim, we think of this sport as a life skill, a sport that we want the boys to do for their lifetime. Coach Alex is patient and very thorough in his demonstrations and examples. The other instructors are just as wonderful in their instruction and flexibility in working with the kids. Life lessons of anti-bullying, social responsibility, and being a good citizen are discussed with the kids in here which is a huge bonus. The classes go at the right speed that doesn't intimidate or burn out my sons and encourages them while learning. There are advanced students here who probably compete or are looking to do that. My sons are athletic but not on the aggressive side and this dojo is perfect for them and all types of kids looking to learn and excel in this sport. Because of this, I do see my sons staying for the long run. We are in no rush to get belt stripes or compete - we want our boys to continue at their pace and be excited to go to class. The staff of Izabella and Analise are the best - always welcoming, friendly and helpful. They are the perfect representation of this dojo. If you're looking into martial arts for your kids, I highly recommend you give this place a try! I personally enjoy the 0900AM breakfast club on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday. I also enjoy the Zombies at 0530AM on Tuesday and Thursdays. The jiu jitsu curriculum is awesome. I enjoy the simplicity and options we get when I take class. The moves of the day builds on each other as the week progresses. You can roll until your heart's content at the end of class.  The gym is superbly clean. They have ghostbusters vacuum cleaners, alcohol spray to wipe your feet prior to getting onto the mat. I wish all gyms did this to keep feet and hands clean. Plenty of benches for parents to watch their kids. They have actual hand soap and paper towels in two individual bathrooms. Real fucking toilet paper. Changing rooms for both women and men with locker. There is even a separate room with mat space for privates.  The mat space is incredibly spacious with custom fuji mats. Cubbies for your belongings, a water filter station, and kettlebells.  The vibe of the community is very island vibes. Guam, Hawaii, Philippines and more. Make an effort to check out and you know what I mean.  The coaches are in it for life. There are so many black belts that are there you can learn from. Each with their own style. Want to compete? From day one, the instructors have each been welcoming and fair to all kids in the program. There is no question that the instructors all enjoy teaching jiujitsu to children of different skill levels and ages, it's definitely a passion of theirs and because of that, the kids safety and instruction is tailored to challenge each kid on an individual basis. As a parent, watching your children develop life skills, gain confidence, improve their fitness, respect others, enjoy competition, and have fun/laugh at the same time is all you can ask for - and that we get with every class we send our kids to. His leadership, patience, and passion for the art left a lasting impact on me. I trained in Taekwondo, kickboxing, and kali, five hours a day. It was demanding, exhausting, and sometimes painful, but I loved every moment of it. Those years were more than just training. They were about growth, character, and brotherhood. He also has trouble focusing at school and home, so wanted to give him something to keep busy. I wasn't looking to make him the next MMA champion or anything crazy. I just wanted him to learn to throw a punch and be able to defend himself, while also keeping him active. This place seems to be doing a good job with all of those. My son loves coming here and enjoys working out with other students. Coach David and Kru Stephanie are excellent with the students and seem to know how to tap into their potential. I like that they sometimes turn some training sessions into games to keep kids more engaged. All the students are nice too. I've been to some martial arts studios where some of the students act like thugs. I haven't seen seen any bad characters here. Kids/teens Muay Thai classes are held Tuesday, Thursday, Friday (sparring), and Saturday. Adult classes are held Monday thru Saturday. If you sign up here you can also take Taekwondo at Ferrer Academy, located on Lincoln Avenue near Moody Street. Such a small world because I used to train there over 30 years ago. Turns out the owner of this studio is the daughter of my former instructor. Tuition can be paid month-to-month or you can sign a 6-month or annual contract. Price is obviously better with longer contracts. Not sure if it's still offered but we were given a 2-week free trial period when we first signed up.

Zero Integrity--Values Winning Over Ethics…read more I am beyond disgusted by the behavior I witnessed from the head coach of this academy at the Dream Series Jiu Jitsu competition on March 14, 2026. A martial arts instructor is supposed to be a role model for their students, teaching discipline, respect, and--above all--integrity. This coach has none of those qualities. During the tournament, he blatantly and shamelessly cheated by pressuring the referee to switch the 2nd and 3rd place winners to favor his own interests. It wasn't a mistake or a misunderstanding; it was a calculated move to manipulate the podium results. It is pathetic to see a grown man so desperate for a plastic medal or "team points" that he is willing to rob another child of their hard-earned placement. What kind of message does this send to the students at this gym? He is teaching them that it's okay to lie and cheat as long as you get the result you want. If you want your child to learn "winning at all costs" without a shred of morals, this is the place for you. But if you actually value character, sportsmanship, and the true spirit of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, stay far away from this coach and this academy. He is a disgrace to the BJJ community.
