I liked one lioness/panther sculpture in particular that had been presented by a John S. Kennedy, not sure what the S stands for. The paths could be confusing on first attempt, though I found I could consult my phone to help me find which path to take. A number of critters were out in the greenery the few times I walked through in July 2019. The hotel where I was staying had a small parking lot that was first-come first-serve, so I did most of my exploring on foot. Kelvingrove Park was one option if I wanted to take in the nature of Glasgow and did not want to walk along the street.

There is SO much here: wooded trails, skatepark, a playground, bandstand, monuments, duck pond, tennis courts, and the art museum. The outer is a hilly grass area with benches, and the inner is a well-equipped and fenced in large kids playground - such a set-up is perfect for adults to sit back and watch the kids whilst allowing them the independence to run around freely. And because of the fencing, the worry of them running off too far is eliminated. Another bonus is that it's never as busy as the Kelvingrove or Botanics. The grassy area is also perfect to let dogs have a nice sniff around - though probably only suitable for smaller dogs. All in all, it's a perfect escape from the city buzz on Byres Road, and a great way to entertain the wee-uns.

Since the old pavilion was converted into a nursery there's always a lot of child activity in the park, so consequently it is very popular with parents who have small children. It's a bit too close to Highburgh Road to be very peaceful, but it's a nice place to sit and get some sun in the summer months.

Kids these days don't know how lucky they are. This is such a middle class playground it is…read moreunbelievable: not content with just swings, you have race car chair swings. There's a zip wire, a climbing wall, some form of big swinging disk thing and numerous other structures bringing unadulterated joy to me...and probably little kids as well. During the day this playground is absolutely rammed with screaming children as mothers discuss the latest issue of glamour or yesterday's tea party. This is the time to avoid, mainly because you'll look a bit weird swinging with a load of 5 year olds (careful those of you with innuendo based minds). In the evening though, or better in the small hours of the morning, this is a drunkard's paradise. Everything becomes so much more amazing...and more difficult. Whether it be the swings, the climbing frame or simply the spinning disk then it is a joy. Also the playground is one of the best places to meet fellow boozehounds, there's a real community of idiots there. A word of warning though, when on the swings, make sure you don't look at the hypno-disk, it will definitely make you feel queasy at the least. This is another place that I came across while working as a child carer for a primary school's…read more'summer play scheme' one summer. A promisingly stressful day spend keeping beady eyes on a litter of running children was rather less stressful due to this little number. The children, still ran right enough, but at least the younger ones were suitably entertained and mesmerised by the castle like play structure, so ran around that for an hour or so. Meanwhile, the older children were entertained and mesmerised by watching oh-so-cool teenagers in the skate-park. Now for the history. This skateboard park seems to have been here forever. In a way, it has - well since 1951. Since then there has been a roller skating/skateboard arena here with renewed versions being unveiled in 1978 and finally 2004. There is also a substantial play area with slides, swings and a whole variety of hide-y wholes in a multicoloured wooden castle structure. There's a soft play artificial surface below for safety precautions too. All areas covered, so it's all good for the kids!

This is a lovely, little play park for young kiddies and their folks. It doesn't fit into the more…read moremodern 'adventure' play park category. No, sir. Instead, it has a few select simple but highly child friendly, entertaining traditional ploys or 'toys' (is that the correct word?). These are: a slide, a swing (with protective seat for wee tots) and a spring(y) bike toy. Maybe not quite the thing for thrill seeking older kids but for little 'uns pretty perfect. It also has more than enough benches for parents (possibly for those times when there's a domestic in progress?) and a well designed litter bin. I've managed to have a rather pleasant day out with the boy and his two young nephews here (though, the pub lunch after handing them back to the parents was the best part of the day...). So all in all, a lovely, local, play park for young kiddies and given how quiet it often is when I walk past, one which is often overlooked.

(apparently, the tourism board should also sound like a 14 year old girl...) I'm not going to beat around the bush here (heh), I walked 15 minutes out of my way to go to this park. Sure, I was headed in the general direction but this gal can't pass up a good FTR (First To Review), and so park trekking it was. And as parks go, this one is pretty spiffy. Maybe not walk 15 minutes out of your way spiffy, but it's clean, the play space is bright, spacious and apparently "not for adults" and they've got a nice little set of picnic benches for when it isn't crazy cold/windy/raining (i'm told this magical moment happens in June). Not a destination park in any sense, i'm sure it would be a lovely find if I lived in the neighbourhood and a great spot to take the little ones!

Have been a few times to this skatepark over the last few months and had a consistently awesome…read moretime on each visit. Even though I'm pretty rubbish so far I've never been scoffed at or felt unwanted and park regulars have been happy to watch me ride and give little tips and tricks Staff are super friendly and chatty. Park is well maintained and foam pit is always open. At night there is no cafe to get snacks so bring snacks and drinks with you. Kit bags can be stored on the mum and dad benches right beside the track and I've always felt safe leaving my semi valuables in my bag there. Was particularly impressed tonight when a member of staff (Pete I think) challenged me to a shot in the foam pit. Me?!? Scary stuff! However I like to live by 'if it's not scary it's not fun' so I was game for a wee adrenaline buzz. Normally they would charge for personal tuition but this lovely man coached myself and two other adults into the pit. He even got a backflip out of one of us! Please give it a try if you're up for a laugh. BMX, scooters and skateboards can be rented from staff. Lessons can be booked if you feel really unsafe. You'll have a great time. Just remember a helmet - brains are important!

We took my little boy and his cousin here on Sunday for the Classic Car Show and I must say I was…read morereally impressed. The entire area was used well and it was clearly a very popular day out! There were loads of cars, tram journeys on classic tram cars, pipe bands, characters for the kids... Loads of family fun! The queue for food was chaotic but I had packed a picnic just in case (always prepared!) There's a lovely little bit down by the canal that was very quiet and we sat here for lunch practically undisturbed and able to enjoy the view. My hubby is a massive car nut and he loved the different cars that were there. We spent a good amount of time wandering around while he inspected all the cars that took his fancy. My son loved the pipe bands and danced along to these quite the thing! He practically took a run at the minion character who was taking photos with the kids for charity and gave him a massive hug, which genuinely made my day! It was a lovely addition to the day. I'd love to come back here and get to spend a bit of time in the heritage museum. It's a great place to wander around and there's a huge park I'm sure my little one would love to explore. I feel like we've only really scratched the surface of this place and I can't wait to go back.

We didn't know about this park though which is right across the street from the Abbey. And it's a wonderful park. There are several sights along the way, the small "Tower Burn" river goes across the park, there's a café, a playground and several trails leading you through woodland and open spaces. Some urban wildlife as well. A good number of pretty tame squirrels too. A nice place to spend some time in. Alone, with family, with your dog.... Really enjoyed it.

Pittencrief Park or as locals call it "The Glen" is a huge park in the heart of Dunfermline. The…read morepark was gifted to the town back in 1902 by Dunfermline's famous son, Andrew Carnegie, a philanthropist who made his millions in the States (think Carnegie hall in NYC). Before internet, reality TV and crime dramas people actually used to flock to the park on sunny days from across Scotland to spend in the 70 something acres of manicured lawns and gardens. It may not have the same draw today, but when the sun is shining it can still be really busy. Not only is 'The Glen' a wonderful park, but it has some other very interesting features such as Pittencrieff House Museum, the remains of the 11th Century King Malcolm Canmore's Tower, (when it was the royal residence of Malcolm and his queen, Margaret), greenhouses, woodland walks and a statue of the man himself, Andrew Carnegie. There are also fantastic views of Dunfermline Abbey and Palace from the gardens. The Glen Pavilion in the centre of the park holds many local events from gigs, to arts and craft fairs. The Pavilion is also where you can get a quick caffeine fix as here you will find the park's cafe. There are also 3 kiddies play parks, ideal if Mum and Dad fancy a wee break from entertaining the kids. Anyone who grew up in the area will have such fond memories of the park. It's still really easy to spend a good day here. There is also a great chance to see peacocks and squirrels, so take a bag of nuts for some close up fun of these cute little critters.
