If you walk down the stairs, they are behind the stairs. There is no small size. The middle size is only good for a backpacks. For carry on size luggage, you need at least a L size, which is 9 euro for L size. There are bigger sizes, which will cost more. The instructions are clearly stated in the locker room. No staff are there to help you. Credit card is accepted.

Aside from that, I had someone with me, who could speak French. The machines were there, so. Was able to purchase a ticket but nobody took it onboard the train, so it turned out to be for naught. Nonetheless, this was a large station with multiple shops and was extremely neat, I was pleasantly surprised. This station seemed to have local and trains to take you to other European countries.

I'm sort of used to airports and expect chaos, although it does not need to feel that way. We were here in Brussels just for the day so we did not have luggage which made it much easier. Every employee was helpful in navigating me through the new routes to my train. Plenty of cafes to choose a good coffee. Eurostar was a delayed disater but not the fault of the train station.

The best part is that the Eurostar high-speed train from here to London is an amazing way to do it. You get to go from city center to city center in ~2 hours while being on a train that lets you walk around instead of being crammed in a seat buckled into a plane. The actual station though is just fine. There's no nice waiting area before or after the security screening. The security screening itself is a longer line and more of a hassle than you'd like for a train. I get that they have to treat it like a border crossing post-Brexit, but it's still frustrating. Beyond that the only real place to get a snack or drink is a single, pretty sad duty free shop.

Okay, this section of Brussels certainly isn't all that large, but there are a few bars around here, and you could say some other types of entertainment (like eating kebabs). However, yeah, this place is pretty sketchy, and probably not one of those places I would recommend visiting. Except of course that it is Europe, but yeah, I'd still be careful.

If you want to buy tickets to a station within Belgium, you can use the self service ticket machine (card only). If you need to buy tickets to travel to a nearby Belgian city using cash, you will need to visit a ticket counter (typically counter 2). If you need to a buy a train ticket to a city outside of Belgium, you will need to go to a ticket counter (typically counter 5 and 6). This is the same one as the service center counter so many people have complex requests/issues to handle. Be prepared to wait in line. Give yourself plenty of time to purchase tickets and don't wait until the last minute! The train station (on the platform) itself isn't very clean... but at least it's better than Paris? Definitely not as clean as the one in Amsterdam. The train station is modest sized but still has shops for your chocolate craving, banking needs, etc.

It is also on the aboveground tram system. When I visited the station, there were staff members available and automated ticket machines.

It's been an interesting experience over the past 3 years, seeing Schuman Metro station being…read moretransformed from a construction site full of concrete walls to the marble and polished looking place it is now. As of October 2015, you can see the lovely pale gold marble on both the stations' floors and walls and its beautiful structure emerging like a butterfly from its cocoon - there is still work to be done, buts it's getting there with its cathedral ceilings and gleaming lights. My fave station in the Brussels metro station still remains Stockel, with its Tintin cartoons, but Schuman reminds me a bit of Grand Central in NYC, which is maybe what indeed it was aiming for, considering it is the station stop for the EU institutions.

It's a two platform station, and they aren't accessible to each other from inside the station. That means if you get on the wrong platform, and you've already paid your fare, you have to go back outside, go to the correct platform, and pay again. Ticket machines only take coins, not notes. So if all you have on you are Euro notes, or a non-EU credit card, you're screwed. Try doing that when you're pressed for time to get to the train station and you are scrambling to find coins and make your train.
