Dan was extremely friendly and helpful. I had my German Shepherd outside on the leash and Dan insisted I bring him in. I had my 6 and 4 year old boys with the intention of finding somewhere to fish for trout. Dan helped me add to my gear and shared some places to go. He knew lots of places to go and what the fish were biting and it was true. So this is more of a "Thank You" to Dan. I had some repairs I had to make while on a trip. The current detector did not work, in fact to a point it's a danger to someone if they blindly trusted it. I wanted to exchange for a better device. I figured no problem, right? Wrong... I didn't have a receipt, in fact I don't believe I was even offered a receipt, and if I was it definitely wasn't explained I wouldn't be able to return something without it. I honestly don't even think about returning things, it only happened because the device was defective. Look I get it, there's a lot of abuse and yes a receipt is important, but it's 2026 almost everywhere can look up a purchase on a card these days. It was more about the attitude and principle than anything else. There was no attempt to accommodate or even be decent. It would be one thing if I was asking for a straight refund, but I was upgrading to a $150 device (which I still purchased as I needed it). I was willing to show the device fault, but again no one cared. I love supporting small businesses, but this $23 device and poor service will have me going anywhere else and only back to Ace as a last resort. Thankfully Amazon ships here, just takes a few days longer. If I wasn't heading back home I would have just ordered it there. Hopefully in the future you'll find a better way to support your customers. I come here every year around this time and you were my go to location for parts. Next time I'll just wait it out for Amazon.

That's the good aside; now the bad: So, I was passing by and decided to pick up a few items, but I do not live in the area. When I got home, the part did not fit. I took it back to be returned with the receipt, however each and every ACE Hardware I went to denied my return because I am required to return it to the store where I purchased it. What decade are we living in? What kind of business model is this? I even called the corporate office and yes, this is the policy. NEVER BUYING FROM ACE HARDWARE EVER AGAIN. I'm sticking with Amazon or other hardware stores that do not have an antiquated business model.

She not only coached me and let me borrow tools, she CAME TO MY HOUSE and returned TWICE to swap out tools and the washers and fixed it herself. She knows her stuff and cheerfully gives it away! Please know that this is NOT a service you can demand at Archie's; Jill offers her skills at HER discretion - she told me that she likes to help out other women because she understands how tough it can be for gals in the DIY/home repair field.
