Review of the restaurant only.
So glad we stopped here on the way home from Jenolan. Blackheath has a stretch of charming shops and restaurants, but this hotel hit the spot for a cold rainy day. I got a chicken pot pie with corn and leeks which was simply perfection - the crust on the pie was puffy, light, and flaked off like bread crystals. I was so happy to be eating that pie, I scorched my mouth on the burning hot chunks of white meat chicken inside the pie. I think there may have been a world record set that day if "fastest pot pie eating" is a category.
I'm not going to say chicken pot pie is a rarity in the United States, but it's certainly not the "national dish." That's why I get jealous in reminiscing about all my pub and hotel eating in Australia, where, let's face it, meat pie pretty much is your national dish. This hotel's chicken leek pie is a significant factor in my fond memories, both of pies and of Blackheath, and of Australia. If I find myself back in Blackheath, I'll definitely be searching out this hotel for their daily pie offerings again. read more
