Garden Organic Ryton is the flagship organic garden for the UK's organic gardening charity Garden Organic (formerly known as the HDRA).
At Garden Organic Ryton the aim is to show that you can achieve a beautiful and productive garden without resorting to chemicals.
The Gardens are divided into different zones. Many of these focus on productive gardens - the Vegetable Inspirations garden and the Cook's Garden show that kitchen gardening doesn't need to be dull or ugly. There are also top fruit and soft fruit display gardens, and a model organic allotment.
There are plenty of ornamental gardens to see as well, including the bee garden, flowers for pleasure, the woodland walk and the rose garden. Other features to see include the sun clock and the world's biggest flowerpot.
For those looking for advice on organic gardening there are zones showcasing pest and disease prevention techniques and composting. Children will love the indoor gardening displays which have lots of fun games for them to play.
Visitor facilities are good - there's an excellent organic restaurant and a cafe, plenty of car parking and a really good shop that sells gifts, plants, gardening supplies but also eco-friendly household goods and groceries.
Garden Organic Ryton is a lovely place to visit, with lots of things to keep children amused and plenty of space for them to run around. Keen gardeners will find lots of ideas here to take home as well. read more
