Marty at Angelita's is rocking the smoothest, most balanced, long-enjoying, chocolatey, cold process, cold coffee I have had in a long time...and by long time, I mean, I'm a coffee roaster and I had some really good coffee Yesterday, back in San Francisco ... and to stumble across this careful, studious, mad scientist, meticulously light-roasting an amazing Brazilian bean from the Cerrado region...careful to not simply burn it like 90% of folks do, but hang wayyy back and let those complex fruit notes and spices survive the Texas heat AND humidity, and boom, in this music-lover's paradise of a room, quietly protected to perfection. I got the gluten free pancakes were not that good (according to my gluten free friend) they were kinda hard and not fluffy. But they had goat cheese and I love goat cheese so it made up for it. Potato's are good. I would not recommend going here if you're in a hurry because the food takes a while but the servers were sweet and gave us a discount and chips + salsa. Coffee was also good. Service and flavor: Ordered at the counter then found a good spot and got my laptop going to catch up on work. Coffee was delivered with a cool cup (no plastic) and extra carafe. It was so good I ordered refills. It is so much fun to try local roasts that differ from the mainstream., My server was super nice and took care of me. God bless Texas! Ambiance: I felt so at easy there. Several others like me were working. Wasn't too loud but not a library either. I will be back in town in a couple months but will be sure to plan my trip to spend an hour or so here.

What hasn't changed? The quality of their drinks! Bandera continues to be consistent in delivering a wonderful experience from their friendly baristas to their quality drinks. The seating area is cozy and this most recent time they had a DJ to add some life to the vibe. The matcha latte and pour over were both fantastic and is a great place to stop by if you're heading back north out of the valley or if you're just in the area. Parking and seating are pretty fair given its size, and Bandera sets a vibe where you can work, catch up with a friend, or just simply enjoy a great cup of caffeine to elevate your day.

For brunch, I ordered the CLEO (a lox bagel with egg) and the SPI Breakfast Platter. The CLEO had great flavors--the smoked salmon was fresh. My biggest critique was that the soft bagel, warm egg, and lox lacked a bit of textural contrast. Even so, the individual components were delicious. The SPI Breakfast Platter was hearty, well-executed, and exactly what you'd hope for from a classic breakfast. I'd love to come back the next time I'm in South Padre and try their lunch menu, the dessert case was very enticing.

The folks who run it are very friendly and extremely talented. I will say I don't think I've ever seen such exquisite latte art/caps before. I've never seen a seahorse latte before and it was genuinely stunning and almost too pretty to drink. The drinks were the perfect temperature. The cortado was nice and smooth, with a bite that wasn't too acidic, and the Abuelita mocha latte was exceptional!
