Went to GARCÍA mortuary to help with cremation and putting together a service for my family members . Not only were they more reasonably priced compared to other funeral homes but they were very professional, empathetic, knowledgeable, quick and extremely helpful throughout the whole process. I have never had to manage the aftermath of a death let alone multiple family deaths at the same time so it was greatly appreciated all of their assistance and suggestions and they answered all my questions well. For example I wanted a PowerPoint presentation and if I had been left to do it, it would've been really poorly done, I asked they put it together for me and they made it so beautiful it brought me to tears when I saw it, complete with music of my choosing and everything (music was one of their suggestions, that's why they're the pros right?) I don't remember how I ended up at the reviews for the Garcia Mortuary but I know they have been entrusted to many families, mine included. I recently went to my niece's funeral at the beginning of this month. They are 100% compassionate and professional. I remember when my father passed away they were very helpful, compassionate and explained everything thoroughly, showed us the different choices the options for everything including poems for the little memory cards which they print out and laminate for your family. We were at maximum capacity and they printed out over enough cards for all the family and friends there. Since we had a night viewing we brought hot chocolate, coffee and mexican bread which they were so gracious to accommodate tables and extra trashcans for our family. Since our family wanted to 'velar' our dad how they do in Mexico, we asked for the casket to be brought back to our home for 24 hours before the burial. They help us with that 100%, and only charged us the additional use of the vehicle, which was completely understandable. One highlight was that unfortunately due to my dad being very ill when he passed away he had lost a lot of weight, so his button down shirt was fluffed up with a few cotton balls (only we saw since I lifted his shirt to fix it) so it wouldn't look so sunken in. My family and I thought that was so so so beautiful of them to do that. Thank you so much for everything you do. read more

Negative stars!!! Horrible horrible place to go to. Very disrespectful to the living and the past. This place said we could rent one of the rooms to do a viewing service because we thought it would be nice for his friends to say goodbye to him, even though our family was not interested in seeing the body or having a viewing. We Agreed to rent the room and after plans were set to have the viewing this place said only out immediate family was allowed to see the body (this had nothing to do with the way he died). After the 'misunderstanding' of the viewing our family declined in renting the room and they tried to say we still had to pay for it! I had asked if this family member could be cremated with a certain item and they tied to tell me it was illegal to do that (it is not). To make this worse, me being the primary caretaker of his body and the decisions being made, Garcia mortuary calls me to tell me this person was 'being cremated as we speak'! As I family member, that is the last thing u want to hear. If this wasn't enough they told us it would take 2-3 days to get his ashes back so I set a funeral for that upcoming weekend. All the mortuary had to do was drive to the crematory in Ventura and take them back to the office so we could pick them up. Apparently that was too hard and said they had to wait till there was more ashes to be picked up so it wasn't a waste of time!!! I told them I would just pick them up because we needed them for the funeral service they also said this was illegal for me to do. And to top it all off our final bill was $3000 over the initial price they gave us. One if the reasons we went to this place was because they are known to be a cheaper place to go. Because the death was unexpected and my family doesn't have much money, this was a good place for us. They didn't give us any death certificates as they said they would and called me and my parents everyday until they got there money. The reason they didn't get there money that week was because we had to have a death certificate to give to the insurance company. In my and my families opinion they were very rude, disrespectful and unwelcoming. If you need a place to go, I would recommend James A. Rear don. That place treated us like family. read more

What was the saddest moment of my children's and my life was made easier to bear by their attentive assistance. We were able to honor and celebrate my grandmother's life, as she had intended. This is the third time I have attended a funeral service entrusted here, and everything went just as it was intended. My family recently had services for my Grandfather, Ignacio. I could not be more appreciative of how they handled everything. Extremely respectful, helpful, caring & just plain nice. The facilities are beautiful and I thought it was nice how they had TV's in the lobby for those who could not fit in the chapel for the services. The place was clean and I had no issues with service. I was able to sit with my grandmother for 2 hours before we moved on to cemetery and had the staff coming in and out checking on me and my grandmother making sure that everything was taken care of. The viewing the day before was well taken care of and my grandmother was well prepared and looked very beautiful. I was not involved with any of the preparation or any decision making so I can not say anything to that but everything that I saw was great and things went very well. It was very nice to see how well they took care of my grand mother and our family. They have severed our family with my grandfather and my grandmother and I have to say both times they did very well and made it easy to say good bye to someone so special to me and this world.
