STRIVE volunteers!
Heather G.

Garbage to Garden is pretty damn fantastic! They offer curbside composting--for $14/month and if you volunteer it's FREE! (yes FREE!!) You can compost any food scrap, meat, dairy even BONES! It has really cut down on the amount of trash I have and I feel better about helping the environment. I can even get actual compost any time I want with no extra charge! Volunteering is a snap & the folks over there always need help bagging compost (when the pile isn't frozen! ha), organizing, de-stickering & re-stickering buckets and more! They're always happy to see you and they care!

Great facilities, and the tour was both fun and informative! If you're a local, or want to know…read moremore about how recycling works then you'll like these guys.

Did you know that there are seven different types of plastic am that can be recycled. I also learned that until recently we shipped all of our bales of paper to China. They aren't taking any paper now, however ECO Maine is hoping they open up again soon, as they are storing all the paper at the plant. bext, We toured the facility itself and what a remarkable place. You see conveyors moving items arond. You see magnets attracting metal. You see air puffing only on certain types of plastic containers separating them. You even see people hand separating the items. My biggest thrill out of all there dynamic machines was the front loader pushing and lifting recycled items onto the conveyor belt. I just brought the kid out of me as I remembered playing with those Tonka Trucks. As the tour wound down I saw where all the trash ends up. It gets put in a hopper that is six, count them, six stories high. There the trash falls into one of two incinerators that heats up to 18,000 degrees Fahrenheit and burns into an ash. Unfortunately, no one has invented a good use for this ash, so it simply gets put in a land fill. This tour has opened my eyes as to how much goes into my recycles and trash once they leave my curb. I will certainly work hard at making sure items end up where they are supposed to!

This parking lot is conveniently located in prime location of Old Port. All tourist attractions and…read morespots are within walking distance. The lot is probably the biggest is the area, has so many spots. But there's no attendees, all self served process. The lot is decent quality, mostly clean and safe to park. There are no prices posted for visitors to see ahead of time what to pay. Only after you go to the pay station you realize the minimum is 2 hours that cost $28. Additional hours are $8 each. The receipt must be displayed on dashboard. The operating company controls all parking lots in the area, so the high prices are unavoidable, unless you are lucky to get a street parking spot. You also receive a text that allows you to extend the parking hours, but that text comes only 5 minutes before your time expires. Sadly there's no mention of this anywhere.

This is more than many places in downtown Philadelphia all day. They used to allow an app but apparently the app no longer is used for this parking lot. It seems that to minimize people getting tickets in this lot, they just charge a flat rate of $40+ for you to park all day until 2 AM. Better than getting a parking ticket.
