This has been our first Japanese store interaction and in some way we find there's a fine thread of its culture weaved into this brand's fabric. The clothes seem to come up with a certain honesty with the way they are well made. This particular store is smaller compared to its cousin at the American Dream mall but has quite a collection for its size. The highlight of this brand/store is the unique self checkout technology they possess at the registers where you just need to throw the dresses in a bin and it checks you out without needing to scan the barcode manually. Some staff members did not know where certain items were located. They are friendly and try to help but they need a little more product knowledge. The pricing: It is a bit pricey here and they do not have a wide selection of items here. Overall: This store is pricey with their items so you should be prepared for that. Banana Republic in my opinion is considered the upscale version to Gap and unfortunately the prices reflect that. So while I love the way the outfits are put together, the prices seem to be very high but this has no bearing specifically on the store, this is Banana Republic in general. The store's layout used to be an even 50-50 split between men's and women's apparel. The men's section here has always been limited compared to the selection at larger BR stores (e.g. North Brunswick, Bridgewater, Short Hills) especially in terms of suit sizing, but over the past decade the women's section has been gradually displacing the men's section, which now occupies less than 1/4 of this store's shelf space. I'm guessing this is due to shifts in the dying demographic of shoppers who still shop for clothes via brick-and-mortar. Store associates here have always been helpful (probably because they're usually not teenagers), and like at other BR locations the cashier is located in the middle of the store. How this BR store has managed to stay afloat for this long is a complete enigma, considering that all of its neighbors on the second floor crumbled (even before the pandemic) and have since been replaced by off-off-off brand retailers, a slime factory, and a wine & paint studio. Even the Gap store here didn't survive. This particular wing of Menlo Park Mall on the second level has historically been very prone to turnover, so I'd keep an eye out for any liquidation announcements in the near future.
