We did a Sunset Cruise through Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay. The Rhode Island coastline is beautiful...the old houses with the green yards sloping into the rocky coastline down into the water. So picturesque! We were able to see large yachts, lighthouses and some really beautiful sailboats. I also thoroughly enjoyed seeing the view of Fort Adams from the water. The crew was so nice and helpful and we really enjoyed listening to our knowledgeable guide Patrick. This is a must for anyone going to Newport. read more

I've recently booked the Evening Voyage with Gansett Cruises through their website for Saturday, August 17, 2024. This was a 60 minute narrated harbor boat tour on Narragansett Bay with a check-in time at 5:05pm, departure time at 5:30pm, and return time at 6:30pm. The Evening Voyage includes a complimentary drink ticket. I had a glass of the Pinot Grigio. Adult (13+) tickets were $45, Senior (65+) tickets were $41, and Children (Infant-12) tickets were $41. I've previously booked the Morning Mimosa Cruise with Gansett Cruises through Viator for Sunday, May 29, 2022. This was a 1.25 hr narrated harbor boat tour on Narragansett Bay with a check-in time at 10:00am, departure time at 10:30am, and return time at 12:00pm. Morning Cruises include complimentary mimosas or orange juice. I had the mimosa. Adult (13+) tickets were $37, Senior (65+) tickets were $34, Children (4-12) tickets were $32, and Children (Infant-3) tickets were $17. You can call in, use a 3rd party like Viator, or use their website directly to reserve tickets. Through the website, gratuity is a required field (you can choose none, 15%, 18%, 20%, 25%). Check-in is at 2 Bowen's Landing in Newport, RI. At the check-in time, I told the attendant my name and she gave us a boarding pass. Boarding was on time and very easy. The Gansett is a private yacht with an open deck plan and comfortable cushioned seating. The boat was very clean. The cruise tour guide talked about yachts, gilded age mansions, lighthouses, Fort Adams, Goat Island, and so much more. The cruise was close to shore and there were great views of Newport's coastline. Both tours were unforgettable experiences aboard the Gansett. The tour guides were very informative. There is also a cash bar if you want additional drinks. It is definitely worth it. read more

This was a nice 70 minute cruise. Emily and Patrick were great tour guides. There is a bathroom on the boat and complimentary lemon ice was served on board. The cost was $37 per person plus tax so just under $40. It was a bit pricey but quite informative and entertaining. One complaint- the plastic coverings over the windows were hard to see through. Not sure why they are even on the boat. read more

What a beautiful time on the afternoon cruise! Boarding was super easy... the boat was nice, modern, and clean. The Del's lemonade was the perfect refresher. Patrick needs his own show. Good overall. Couldn't really hear the guide, don't know if it was a speaker issue or whatnot but wasn't a huge deal. I made do. Didn't really like the fact they have you pre-tip when you register at 15,18 or 20 percent. You can pick none, but I'd rather had waited to see how it was then decided on how much I wanted to tip, so I also could tip any amount instead of specified amounts. I'm not anti-tiping but I would've been more comfortable with a couple bucks then 5. While the tour was good, it still felt a little lacking. Not bad, mind you, but just felt unfulfilled. I'd recommend it, but for cautiously. read more

This was a lot of fun! We did this after an early dinner and had a nice view of the sun setting. Patrick (with the crazy sneakers!) was awesome. He was very knowledgeable, funny and energetic with his guided narration. Not only did he know about the houses and landmarks; he knew a lot about some of the yachts that were docked in in the area. Everyone received a "stuffie" , a champagne toast and they had a cash bar for beer and wine. Prices were very reasonable for being on a boat! I think a beer and a wine was $11. I highly recommend giving this a go! It's a fun way to see Newport and learn a few things along the way. read more

This 90 minute cruise was so much fun! A great way to spend some time in Newport. Our guide Patrick was awesome, he was funny and VERY informative. He knew everything about everything. The boat ride was very smooth especially for some of the waves we took on. We went in the middle of may and it was pretty windy so bring a jacket for sure. The coffee milkshake was delicious. We did the afternoon sighseeing tour while we were in Newport. Our trip coincided with the International Boat Show so it was an added treat to see some of these mega-yachts and insane boats from the water. Our tour guide, Beau, quite literally had us laughing out loud at points. He was so informative and super entertaining. He also gave some recommendations for local things to do that we wouldn't have known about otherwise. We got lunch at the Lobster shack afterwards thanks to Beau, and my life is forever changed now that I have had lobster that fresh. Overall it was a perfect afternoon and a really affordable way to see Newport from the water. The service was fast and friendly for drinks. We even made friends with the group sitting next to us, who ended up being the nicest people we have ever met - an added treat for an already spectacular day. I would recommend this to anyone going to Newport and am excited to try one of their other charters when we make it back. read more

We stumbled across this activity and were glad we did. The hour and a half trip around Newport Harbor didn't seem that long. Our guide, Patrick, was a wealth of information about Newport and the sights even though he isn't from Newport. He was very amusing and handled a very talkative customer with great tact. My recommendation as to where to sit: if possible, sit up top and in the right side. Your view won't be blocked and most every point of interest addressed is on the land which is on the left side of the boat. Also, they do sell drinks, but have a complimentary special snack and champagne toast. Don't forget cash to leave a tip! read more

We did the 4:30 cruise with these guys on 7/23! This cruise was awesome, complimentary del's lemonade was served and you could purchase alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages on board. We had such a good time, Patrick was our tour guide and he was very funny, knowledgeable, and just the type of person you would want to hangout with. Had us laughing the whole time while learning some really cool things about the houses in Newport and all about yachts! Would highly suggest this cruise. read more

This cruise was great! It's more of an educational/informational boat ride around the bay but not complaining one bit. The guide made it enjoyable and entertaining and the views were great. It gets a bit cold, even in June, so bring a thick jacket/blanket. They sell small blankets for $5 also. A nice cherry on top were the free beverages they offered (frozen lemonade, coffee milkshake). I'll just cut to the chase, I would highly recommend a Gansett Sunset Cruise. Now that I've dispensed with the obvious, let me explain why. The staff was friendly and professional, the tour host was funny. There were some obviously corny jokes, but overall, he was very entertaining, he interacted with the audience, and he didn't take himself too seriously. There was so much information about the boats and yachts we passed that I couldn't take it all in, but it wasn't overwhelming. We were offered a hot snack, (it was like a crab cake in a shell) and a champagne toast to toast the sunset. Other beverages were for sale on the cruise. Helpful Hint: If you want to take pictures on the sunset cruise, I would highly recommend you sit on the starboard side (right side if you're at the front of the boat, left side if you're facing the captain's back). read more

We almost went with another company and SO glad we didn't! John aka "Roger" was a super host and MC! Full of jokes and historical knowledge and without him it would have been just another boat ride. The cruise itself takes you along a nice path and you get to see some cool mansions and even lighthouses. It was a nice cruise with friendly staff. Very informative captain and crew. Beautiful views of Newport and you learn a little history. Use the coupons you find at your hotel for good discounts. The only downside is my wife and I had to squeeze in to be seated due them possibly overselling the tickets. It was quite uncomfortable and I would recommend checking prior to see how many people will board. To GC's defense, it was a lot of larger people on our cruise (which they obviously can't control). Other than that, it will be our go to cruise next time we are in Newport. read more

Harbor tours and sunset cruises. Years of experience and love of the New England coast area together bring you the best of local sights and sounds and tastes. The company began its operations in June of 2007 with the start of the Tall Ships Festival. At the dock, M/V Gansett and her crew were immersed in the oldest traditions of the sea and were part of the action from sunrise to well after dark. It was sensational to be a spectator at the Parade of Sail as the ships headed out to sea and onto their next port of call. This was the view on all sides of M/V Gansett in early July.

Meet the Business Owner: Zane and Shivani R.

Zane and Shivani purchased Gansett and the company from the original owner/operator Jeff who restored the vessel to its immaculate shape and started the company Gansett Cruises with quality in mind. Zane and Shivani have a background in yachting and maintaining boats from soup to nuts. "We are grateful to have been given the opportunity to manage and operate such a special boat." On the previous owner: Jeff O'Brien was looking for a different turn in his career, which was getting away from being captain of millionaire's yachts. One day he was visiting Giffy Full at his Brooklin home and he took notice of the photographs on Giffy's kitchen walls. He explained, "When I started looking for passenger boats, they were all so ugly. From a money making point of view a lot of [owners] probably like the big ugly steel multi-deck boats, but I had no interest in them. This is more than just making money. I wanted to do it on a boat that I had an appreciation for, not just a cash cow."

Our 12 meter yacht was the 12 US 17 Weatherly, which is a legend and one of the three surviving wooden America's Cup defenders in the world. Bruce, Erica (the skipper), James, and Rebecca were super nice and extremely knowledgeable about the boat, sailing, history, and landmarks in the area. Erica had great command of the vessel and was able to make things fun while still ensuring the safety of everyone on board. Due to Covid-19, America's Cup Charter is limiting the number of people included in each tour and requires everyone to keep their mask on. I felt completely comfortable the whole time. I highly recommend the private charter and daily ticketed sail.

Excellent people, friendly , knowledgeable of Newport,America cup details, who owns which yachts docked , and made sure everyone had a great time, helped hoist sails, do the grinding, steer boat. I have been on larger sailboats and this boat the Wetherly was smaller and required work by some people on boat and actually taught people how things work during a sail. There was a full group of people and some young kids and it was fun to see how much one boy knew more than I and others about sailing. The kid was infectious how much he was enjoying himself with his Dad ....everyone enjoyed questions, answers, and after 2 hours ; I felt like we were all friends for a long time... The knowledge of the island , the yachts, history of the waterfront houses was truly quite interesting. The son and crew member Teddy was highly respectful of all and the Captain'scDaughter clearly both knew their stuff. The water views at sunset were worth trip alone... what more can I say... easy booking on website ... no drama . Even assured refunds or reschedule if sail was rained out... very fair and reputable. What more can I say ; but anyone visiting Newport should include a sail with this professional run operation. I'll go again in heartbeat and already planning my next Newport visit and another sail with this company.

We went on the sunset cruise this past Friday evening. It was great! Even though it was cloudy there were still plenty of sights to be seen. John was very informative. A bunch of locals but we still learned a bit which was pleasantly surprising. The boat was clean and nicely appointed. The cocktails and stuffies were superb! Great, friendly service! The sunset cruise was awesome. The tour guide, John, was funny and knowledgeable, and the rest of the crew were extremely nice. The views were fantastic. I brought my mother, who walks with a cane, and she had no trouble getting on and off the boat. It is hard to tell from the pictures, but the seats are also quite comfortable. We arrived on the dock to wait for our captain when the Sea Newport team called me at 10 am to let me know they were having "mechanical issues" and would need to cancel our boat. No one from the boat came from the dock out to speak with me, they did not offer to rebook us for a different date or boat, nor did they offer recommendations on where to find a new charter. A bridesmaid walked down to the boat to talk to the captain. We were told the captain "hit his head" and we weren't sure if we'd be able to take the boat out. Someone from the team only came out to speak in person and apologize for the situation until after a bridesmaid basically forced them to. From trying to rebook elsewhere, it sounds like the Sea Newport team overbooks themselves and does this often. I had captains from other boats sending me photos of our boat and captain out at sea with another group during our booked charter time. Maria and Latitude Charters saved the day and the bachelorette weekend after Sea Newport seriously ruined it.

It is a fairly smooth sail. The one small complaint I have is that you are asked to line up to board about twenty minutes out, and you are standing right next to the garbage dump site for the wharf, and it smells terrible. Parking is scarce, so they mean it when they say get there an hour before setting sail. We lucked out and pulled into a spot as someone else was leaving, but had we not been so fortunate, we may have been searching around for awhile. This is a one and done for me, but I am happy I got to do it.

Our 12 meter yacht was the 12 US 17 Weatherly, which is a legend and one of the three surviving wooden America's Cup defenders in the world. Bruce, Erica (the skipper), James, and Rebecca were super nice and extremely knowledgeable about the boat, sailing, history, and landmarks in the area. Erica had great command of the vessel and was able to make things fun while still ensuring the safety of everyone on board. Due to Covid-19, America's Cup Charter is limiting the number of people included in each tour and requires everyone to keep their mask on. I felt completely comfortable the whole time.
