Out of all the used book stores I have been to in my life - I'm pretty sure this is now my…read morefavourite. It's not the largest store I've seen, but there are a lot of good finds in here. But the one thing that won me over the rest was their comic book collection. I was ecstatic to see that it wasn't full of The Phantom and Mad Magazine like all other book exchange stores, which really annoys me. I was so happy to find some interesting comic books such as Dark Shadows and a Dean Koontz graphic novel (which of course I couldn't help but buy). They also had a Star Wars episode 3 framed picture that I would have been interested in if it was either episode 4, 5, or 6. You know, the real Star Wars films. The collection of DVDs in this store are also really good, with heaps of well known titles available from $5 to $15. The man who was working at this store was also really nice.

You would assume from the dodgy looking frontage that this place is closed down, but not so…read more Despite its unfortunate location on the un-pretty OG Road Book Exchange on OG is worth the pop in. The majority of the book range is the used book usuals like Monica McInerny, Marian Keyes, lots of cheap romance novels (pre-loved, get it?) and heaps of textbook crime. Hidden among the regulars are real gems: six dollar J.M. Coatzee? Yes please! I snatched up two finds for six bucks, took them up to the counter only to be told they were half price- three dollars each, huzzah! They also have a surprisingly large and quite good range of ex rental DVD's, twelve bucks each, I grabbed three and was on my merry pre-loved way.

For all of your Marvel comics, Wolverine, X-Men, Spiderman, Wonderwoman, other Superheros, books about legendary writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, and really whatever the hell you need from comics. Seriously. There is not much to criticise this store about if you grew up loving comic books and superheros. If you didn't enjoy these kinda things back in the day when it was as popular as NBA cards or yo-yos or Spice Girls, then get away from this store. It's not for you. But if it is for you, you will thoroughly enjoy the products and service, I'm not joking. The next guy that walked in had the biggest pair of eyes I have ever seen, it was at least twice the size of a 50 cent Australian coin as he looked around this store. No words can describe the coolness factor that oozes out of this store. There's even medium sized superhero figurines on the back wall! so cool. The staff even look super cool, yet super helpful. One chick had a bandana on like she was gonna kick some serious evil ass, another chick with dyed red hair was gorgeous looking like that American chick from 'Mythbusters' or tattoo artist on 'LA Ink', and the third staff member reminded me of a normal guy waiting to get into a telephone booth and turn into a superhero. All THREE staff members walked out of the cash register counter to grab the Stan Lee books from the front window. Be aware though that they're not going to approach you unless you approach them FIRST. But once you tell them what you want, the three of them work as a bloody Super Dream Team in getting what you need!! If there was 6 stars available on yelp, they deserved an extra star for the physical effort they put in for me. The only downside to this store is the price. If only I had the money to get me some Stan Lee! What a legend. I remember reading Marvel comics everyday after school when I was a little boy, so it was really refreshing to get out of the hectic Rundle Mall strip and take a nostalgic trip back to memory lane where I had nothing to worry about except who Wolverine was going to beat up next or how much ass the X-Mens were going to kick in the next month's issue.

Adelaide Comic Centre is exactly as the name suggests, I hub for countless comics. I have been in a couple of times (i don't really buy comics I just read them and look at the pretty pictures) and have quite happily strolled around the store checking out all of interest. Unlike Rachel F I quite like the fact that none of the staff came up to ask if I needed help, but I know what she mean by feeling self aware and not very welcome. Generally the staff are chatting to regulars or fanboys who can't believe the spelling error on page 16 of X-Men issue 153.....go on.....check it.

The reply from then was a google generated ai response that said secret rares and alt arts aren't guaranteed which is obvious. I got NO hits. When purchasing they take a unsealed box from the back of the store but being a bigger business which I've purchased from before I thought would be safe. Boy was I wrong and the response from the store was I was just "unlucky" but accepted no fault and didn't actually answer why it was stripped of all hits. No offer of a full refund or exchange of my product. Really poor from Shin tokyo and I won't be spending my money there anymore. Should have taken responsibility- refunded and kept a customer spending thousands. Now you've given yourself a bad name to me and those that ask my opinion of your store. I will add staff have always been friendly so no shade to them. can't recommend Shin Tokyo anymore.

I'd just like to say thank you, Shin Tokyo…read more Finally, a sanctuary for anime and manga geeks! I'm not ashamed to say that I'm hugely into manga and Japanimation, and I for one am glad that we no longer have to scour the internet (legally and illegally) to get our comic book fix. Reading comics on a computer screen really sucks, and thankfully lovers of graphic novels no longer have to resort to this desperation. Shin Tokyo has a HUGE range of Japanese graphic novels, collectibles, video games and cosplay outfits catering to many genres. They have everything from the classics like Akira to recent groundbreakers like Death Note. If owning the books or the movies just simply don't cut it, and you need to express your fandom on a whole new level, then this shop is the place to go to get models to line your shelves and cosplay outfits to earn you some bragging rights. Chances are if you're looking for it, they'll have it. Of course, as much of their stock is imported, shopping at Shin Tokyo can get a little pricey. But with any book or DVD, there are going to be a number of different editions. Sometimes different editions will have different translations and extras; and if you're anything like me, getting the right edition can be a real pain in the ass on the internet. Being able to browse the books and movies, and knowing exactly what you're getting, is a huge bonus.

Generally, my shopping experiences have been very decent at Big W, when making smaller purchases. It is really important to have polite, knowledgeable staff.

Big W have the best DVD bargains out of all the department stores. Some movies are as low as $5, which is always a plus in my books. They also have an awesome chocolate selection, I'm just stating the obvious. They stock these great collectable items that you can't find in other stores. Such as; Audrey Hepburn wall clocks, Marilyn Monroe Biscuit Tins, Guitar Biscuit Tins and Audrey Hepburn chocolate tins. They're pretty awesome, and make for a stellar birthday or christmas gift. I'm a fan of the boys t-shirt collection. I've bought lots of Star Wars and Marvel Comic t-shirts here, and I love them. Otherwise I'd say their clothing range is not the best. I would come to Big W for DVDs, chocolate and other accessories. Great staff, big store, big bargains.

Last time I went in to get Harper's (with the winner of ANTM on the cover) for a friend overseas, I ended up chatting to the guy about Australia's Next Top Model for ages...which I don't actually watch, but I winged it pretty well! Or maybe it's just really good marketing, people come out of food shopping with the kids and think "man, after that I reallllly need a beer" so they decide to take a short cut through the newsagency and along the way they decide "man, I really need a pen too". You never know. There are books available here too, last time I visited I spent a good 10 minutes leafing through a book about the life and designs of Coco Chanel, of course I didn't buy it because it was $50, besides, I'd already read it hadn't I? If I need a pen I just go in and use one and then leave, they should really monitor people like me! But, considering these guys don't, that makes them 3 stars in my book! There are little gifty things available too, take a squiz on your way through to the bottle shop.
