Dr. Prodromos is a Princeton educated, Johns Hopkins Medical School graduate who did his residency…read more@ Rush and fellowship at Harvard. Hard to top those academic credentials for a Doctor, but more importantly he tries to avoid surgery unless it's the only alternative. He will not prescribe medicines to mask the pain as that will only make your problem worse rather than heal you. What a refreshing attitude from a surgeon! I had seen Dr. Prodromos for other problems, so when I broke my hip I sought out Dr. Prodromos to perform the surgery, but he explained that he no longer performs that kind of surgery. Even though he is a renowned surgeon and editor of a book on knee surgery, he told me he limits his scope of surgery because it leads to better results. He could have just done the surgery and collected a fee but he told me I was in better hands with a trauma specialist. However he also talked to the ER doctors on my behalf and then helped me understand the alternatives over the phone (at no charge) that the trauma surgeon presented to me, which was quite helpful. After my surgery and rehab I had some pain still and he discussed this me and explained what kinds of activities to avoid on a subsequent trip. This kind of time and personal care is very unusual from a busy Orthopaedic Surgeon in my experience. Their office even called to follow-up during my trip which was above and beyond. Their office staff also helped with all my billing, Medicare and secondary insurance issues as well. Another time, I had an issue with my foot being 'sore'. He determined it was not broken even though I was in pain. Dr. Prodromos recommended Cold Laser. I had never heard of it and was understandably scared by the word 'laser'. He explained it was totally non-invasive and has been used with great success for many problems including back and neck pain. They gave me reviews & scientific information to read to increase my comfort level. After my reading, I was more than ready to try it. I felt some relief after my first treatment but still had pain. Second treatment (I fell asleep; talk about painless) really helped and after my third treatment in 10 days; my pain was completely gone and has never returned! I cannot recommend Dr. Prodromos any more highly. I have recommended him to others and know friends that have had PRP (platelet rich plasma) treatments there with outstanding results. If you want a solution not a patch; make an appointment with his office ASAP.

My doctor said that I needed to see an Orthopaedic Surgeon because of pain in my knee (I am a very…read moreathletic guy and the pain was getting in the way of my working out) and gave me a list of orthopedics... When I asked my doctor; "Who would you send your brother, father or wife to?," He said; "Bradley Dunlap at Evanston Hospital." Just a FYI, Dr Dunlap has relocated his main office to the new Ambulatory Building at Skokie Hospital. One more thing, I had previously had both my left and right knee worked on by other surgeons earlier in my life, so I have a benchmark and neither of these surgeons were worthy of a review, but Dr. Bradley Dunlap is much different both demeanor wise and option wise.... Long story short, after doing an MRI on my knee, Dr Dunlap informed me that, should I opt for surgery, based on my MRI, I would need a knee replacement... And, instead of "scheduling the surgery" Dr Dunlap gave me the option of a cortisone shot stating that it might relieve the pain temporarily or for an extended period of time, but it would be worth the try to put off surgery... As it turned out, the cortisone worked...on the left knee... Several years later, my right knee acted up just before my skiing vacation and I was back in Dr Dunlap's office... Dr Dunlap informed me that it was probably a meniscal tear which would require surgery... Again, long story short, rather than waste time, money and lose my skiing vacation, Dr. Dunlap offered me a cortisone shot in the right knee and told me that it would probably need surgery, sooner than later, and informed me that this was the last cortisone shot I could get in the right knee.... So, of course, I took the shot and had a fabulous skiing vacation... Well, as you can guess, I procrastinated a year till this last November (2013); and the pain came back, but this time; severe! When I told the doctor I had another skiing vacation planned, he agreed to give me one more cortisone shot with an agreement that I would get an MRI quickly to determine the issue...He advised me to limit my exercising to reduce my swelling before the ski outing and even provided some pain relief medication to tide me over... I wound up NOT missing my skiing vacation and had limited pain thereafter... I just recently had the knee surgery and that is why I am highly recommending Dr. Bradley Dunlap! If you read my other reviews, you would know that I only rate the best, I have no time to review losers or mediocre, that is why I have a limited amount of reviews posted on Yelp So, as I do in my other reviews, I highly recommend Dr Dunlap (as compared to two previous surgeon); and here's why: -I have never waited more than 10 minutes in the Skokie location waiting room for my appointments, most of the time, less than 5 minutes, even if I show up early! -After the MRI, when I asked the doctor why the pain occurs, he went out of the way to take out a knee model and show me exactly where the tear was and demonstrated the mechanics of how the pain was occurring which no surgeon ever took the time out to do in my two previous procedures! -I was VERY WELL INFORMED BEFORE SURGERY AS TO WHAT TO EXPECT and was much better prepared for pre and post operation preparation and follow-through! -Better yet, when I forgot half of what I was told the day before surgery, Dr. Dunlap's nurse, Sylvia, returned my call quickly, answered all my questions and treated me with the utmost of respect! -Check-in and recovery at the hospital was seamless! -7 days, post procedure, doctor showed me very clear images of my knee surgery showing me the initial damage, and then several stages of the tear removal, followed by the final result. Dr Dunlap also took the time to show me images of the other side of the same knee to reassure me that the health of the knee on that side was impressively pristine! I highly recommend you consider Dr Bradley Dunlap, I would recommend him to a close friend or relative; he is a superior doctor with excellent soft skills and his staff is exemplary!
