A unique and impressive board game and jigsaw puzzle store. I always went straight to look at their remarkable jigsaw puzzles section. They even periodically swap out puzzles. Many of my completed jigsaw puzzles have come from this store. Thank you Games Unlimited for providing a much-appreciated location for jigsaw enthusiasts to get puzzles in the Pittsburgh area. The owner(s) are always nice! read more

I don't even know where to start... Games Unlimited is the best game store I have been to in my entire lifetime. Before moving back to California, this place felt like home to me. Every worker here will nail you with the best board game recommendations not even AI can beat. I have never seen a board game store so large and organized. You'd think because I'm from SoCal that this store would be nothing to me but you could never be so wrong. Everyone who works here is so personable, so lovable and so passionate about the hobbies they share. I will never forget this store. I was introduced to game genres I never thought I would be interested in like 'Shake That City' to 'Mysterium Park'. Memories were shared here with my S.O. that I will never forget and those memories I took back home to play with my family and friends. I don't think I am ever going to experience the hospitality I experienced in this place ever again. I would have never bought my first board game in my life if I didn't take my first step in this store. Thank you Games Unlimited for just being you. read more

The staff at this store are amazing!! Each time I have gone in looking for a type of game, their recommendations are spot on. They are so knowledgeable about the games. It is amazing. There is even a game bar where you can play certain games to get a feel for them before you purchase. I cannot recommend this store enough! read more

I love this place. I might love it too much. We have been known to drop hundreds of dollars here. I just really appreciate the demo tables and the used and of course the section of mystery games like Unlock. And RPGs in the back I got this Labyrinth book RPG which was the most fun party I've ever hosted. Also so many puzzles! But right before vacation or a weekend away it's good to hit this place up in case of a rainy day or something to do at night. read more

Games Unlimited - Two happy campers making someone jealous that we were right outside their favorite store. - Hobby Shops Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Hello fellow Yelpers! The number of board games that we've bought from here is uncountable at this point. The staff are so freaking friendly and helpful. You tell them what you are looking for and they will give so many great recommendations. Here's why it's an easy five stars for us...they practice what they preach. When they recommend games they will tell you whether they have played it or not and why they like or don't like it. 9 times out of 10 they have played it because the staff hosts their own game nights to test out all the games! How freaking cool is that. So glad they continue to expand plus they always have some games out to let you try and the selection is expansive. Is the price cheaper than online? Not always, but the price difference is usually only a couple of bucks. Plus you can earn points to get discounts, but they have their amazing staff and local store to support. I always say support local when you can and this place deserves it. Stop by have a hoot, see if you can try to not buy something haha. If you're strapped for cash and an addict to board games like me, sometimes buy online sometimes come into the store and support. I see this store as quintessential Pittsburgh and hope it's around for ages to come! Plus locations great since if you get hungry or want a snack the food in the area is some of the best! Only downside? Parking sucks depending on when you come, but that's standard Squirrel hill Thank you so much for reading, stay safe and well out there. Thanks for being...YOU! :) read more

On a scale of cotton candy to Brussels sprouts, Games Unlimited is an array of snacks! Step through their sliding glass doors and discover a world of board games. While we were there, they had a few games out to demonstrate if anyone was interested (we played a round, and it was a fun way to experience a game before making a purchase decision). No bathroom I could see, but they did have a water fountain with bottle filler. Another nice option is their used games shelf where you can find family favorites for a discounted price! Parking is paid on the street, but you can find free street parking if you drive around the block. read more

Overall- Good collection of board games. You will find both new and used ones. Price - I found the prices for some board games higher than what I saw on Amazon/Target. I think it's fair for the kind of service I got. Staff- Very very helpful staff. They are also very knowledgeable. They gave some really good suggestions/insights for board games. Parking- On street parking is available. read more

Games Unlimited has a wonderful selection of new and classic board games. They offer game demonstrations most Sunday's so it's easy to learn about new games you might not normally play. read more

It's almost creepy how fantastic this place is. I can go in and say either "I saw this game with a werewolf and you had to close your eyes..." and they know exactly what I am talking about and they have it. Or I will say "My son has a hard time being a good loser. What games can help with that?" Seriously worth the time to pop in. Don't buy games from the internet like a jerk. read more

Friendly local game store, 4.5/5 stars. In a post e-commerce world, sometimes you wonder why brick and mortar retailers are still a thing, or what additional value they add. Places like this are the exception. Love that they always have a few rotating games on display that you can actually demo (one of the staff will explain the rules and play a round with you). They have a knowledgeable and friendly staff that will either give you recommendations for games or offer to demo a game. They also carry some games that have not received a wide release and are not available in the standard e-commerce sites. And besides, it's just really cool to have a spot like this where you can go in person to wander the aisles and look at all the games you've seen online. If I could subtract half a star, it's because prices are often not as low as you could find online or in big box stores. Given there's other value this shop offers, slightly higher prices are expected and okay. It's just unfortunate in the occasional cases where a game might not just be "slightly" higher but significantly higher. read more

Games Unlimited is well lit and clean store with a large inventory of board games, tabletop games,, and accessories. The employees are friendly and helpful. Unlike some game shops, they have a large selection of D&D miniatures, dice and modules. I would highly suggest checking them out. read more

Decided to stop in here since I'm getting back into the tabletop community and am on vacation with friends. I left spending way more than I wanted to, but so glad I did! The prices are generally msrp, and only a few bucks over if not. Also, the staff is so friendly and knowledgable and gave me fantastic recommendations based off my interests! Such a wonderful experience. I signed up for the reward program even though I live out of state just because I plan to continue to support them from afar! Definitely a must if you're into this kinda stuff! read more

If you are a game lover... you need to check this place out. I visited recently and wasn't looking for anything in particular. I checked out their used games section and found a gem- a Goonies (my favorite movie of all time) game. The price was reasonable and the game was in perfect condition. They had a ton of board games, puzzles, card games.. basically any game you could want. It was a lot of fun walking around here and checking out their selection. Can't wait to come back! read more

Huge selection of board games. Just coming in and browsing is an experience in and of itself. The employee(s) are definitely enthusiasts and know plenty about most of the games they sell. Prices are definitely higher than you'll find online, but it's worth it to support a local business. They offer demo's on the weekend of different games. We took part in a demo, and liked the game enough to buy it. They also offer game rentals (for a fee) so you can try out a game before buying it. When you bring the game back, the fee becomes a store credit. read more

This store has been in Pittsburgh for many years now and the people that work here are great. They have a great game selection, with lots of Euro-type strategy games and puzzles. The staff are all very knowledgeable and will give you helpful recommendations. They have a fun borrowing program, where you can borrow games for $5. If you return the game within a week, the $5 becomes store credit. They often have demos out where you can try some new board games briefly. And, they have a trade-in shelf for exchanging games with other people. It's great they have a store like this in Pittsburgh! read more

I've never seen a selection of board games quite like this before. I've also never heard people talk about board games so passionately the way the gentlemen in this store did. Tons of games I've never heard of but look interesting and fun nonetheless. They are on the expensive side, but also look to be collector's items and rare games. Some games were priced at $59.99 and up. Really cool store with unique finds in the heart of Squirrel Hill. read more

My partner and I like different types of games and the guys here were super patient with helping us find a few that would suit both of our tastes. Amazing selection of board games, tabletop RPG, and puzzles. The staff is super knowledgeable and will recommend games to you based on ones you already like. They are always willing to help and will demo (or at least explain) any game they have on the shelf. Prices are 10-15% higher than Amazon, but with that comes high-touch customer service and the knowledge that you're helping a locally-owned brick-and-mortar shop. read more

If you are into board games, new to board games or anywhere in between you must go. I love to support a local business and this store has it all. There are used games, demos, events, waitlists for hard to get games etc. the staff is extremely friendly and somehow know everything about every game it seems! After only playing a few games they were able to take that info and guide me to some similar games I would like as well as different ones I could catch onto pretty quickly. On their Facebook page they do unboxing videos which is great tonsee their new inventory. The prices are often cheaper than amazon. They have a reward program too. Street parking is available and pretty Easy to get a spot. Note- there is no public bathroom. I was in the store for an hour and spend ALOT of money and suddenly became ill and couldn't used their restroom. read more

This place has a GREAT selection of board games, card games and probably any other type of game you could wish for. The owner of the store is very friendly and chatted with us as we browsed the store. They carry Cards Against Humanity, so that alone makes this store amazing! The 15% off check-in offer does not apply to Magic cards, but is still a great discount! I plan on heading back there to do some holiday shopping. read more

My friendly local game store. Emphasis on friendly. The staff here are all fun, open, friendly people who love to share the hobby. I've watched them talk to people just looking to get into the hobby with as much respect and enthusiasm as long-time customers into the heaviest of heavy games. My favorite interaction is when the owner greeted us and asked if he could help, and my wife said she had a bit of a challenge for him. He got excited and said he loved a challenge. He then recommended a number of games that fit a very exacting set of criteria (different ages of children who spoke little to no English) and you could tell was actually happy to help. I've had several games opened up and demo'd for me right on the counter. This is probably more effective than any sales pitch or review, since you can actually see if a game is up your alley. The lending library is a great idea. A very good price to try out a game before you buy it, and since games can be expensive this can save you a good amount of money on a game that's not a perfect fit for you. One of my favorite features of the store is the ability to send an email to preorder, order, or hold a game for you. You'll get a call once it's in and just need to go pick it up. No shipping costs involved. The game selection itself is certainly nice, and anything they don't have they can order. read more

Yes, I am a geek, but for some reason I've never felt at ease in these uber geeky places like game stores. Games unlimited is a major exception. They have very friendly staff who will talk with beginner gamers about Ticket to Ride and even Monopoly (true gamers HATE monopoly) while discussing the finer points of strategy for Tigris and Euphrates and Puerto Rico. Both Kylie and Bob are super friendly and they'll happily explain game mechanics, they may show you what's in the game the box, or maybe pull out the game ipad app for a quick trial round, Unlike amazon, they also give you suggestions and recommendations based on what you like to play rather than what you bought before. Even better, if you're not happy after playing a game a couple of times there's always the trade-in shelf. I would also like to point out that the place has been around for 34 years, so they must be doing something right and I'll definitely spend my pocket change there. read more

The best game store I've been to in years. There's a wide range of games (including some of the more obscure ones), and I love that there's something in there for everyone regardless of their experience with games. Some of the best tabletop RPG sections I've seen (meaning, they have all the D&D manuals and everything else under the sun as well). The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable: once I needed some advice on what games to buy for RPG-shy folx and ended up getting what I needed plus three games for myself because it was just that good. They also have game demos for some of the more tactile games and those are fun to watch/try out. I'm kicking myself in the shin that I won't get to go to Games Unlimited much when I move away from Pittsburgh, but when I come back to visit, y'all could guess I'm going to come right back here. Please please please protect this local shop at all costs. read more

Friendly, knowledgeable staff who are passionate about games. Their new space on Forbes is stunning. Can't wait to play games there!

This is a cool, unique store with sales staff clearly interested in what they are selling. This has an interesting collection of games and supplies for gaming enthusiasts. It is well organized and attractively sucked. I am a chess enthusiast and was pleased to find official chess sets and chess clocks. I appreciated the 15% check-in offer as it save me money on theses items. They have puzzles and board games that would make good presents. read more

Great selection of a wide range of board games for all ages. People who work there are very knowledgeable and nice! Loved it, best selection of board games and old school RPGs I've seen in a long time.

Great game shop with a large assortment of new and used games, figurines, and such. Engaged staff and loyalty discounts are a bonus.

I have been shopping at this store since around 1980 when I had to travel across town for my Dungeons and Dragon supplies. Along came other great RPG games like Car Wars, and popular party games like Trivial Pursuit, and I got them all here. When my children were little we found games for tots, and over the years we've found many family games. It would be a huge accolade to say the store has maintained it's quality over all those years, but I have to say that it has actually gotten BETTER. A huge variety, from party games to two-person games, simple and quick games to all day marathon games. And now you can try before you buy with the demo games, and even trade in your old games for something you'll like better! I really love this place and I want everyone in Pittsburgh to come and check them out. read more

Games unlimited is somewhat unique in Pittsburgh. This isn't your average gaming store as they've chosen to specialize in board games, a niche they fill better than any other store in Pittsburgh. I recently went back to purchase a game and I noticed that they had dusted. Also there was a new clerk and he was very pleasant but not overbearing. Why am I in the minority among my friends when I say that I still love Saturday night board games with family or a group of friends?! I feel that not many people appreciate this anymore, because I grew up with card and boardgames. If you are like me, this is a great place for you. Games Unlimited has a great diversity of games, although it is skewed more towards the new than the old (i.e., I STILL can't find a place that sells Tornado Rex!). I am continually surprised at what shows/movies have been adapted into board games (Game of Thrones and Battlestar Galactica, anyone?)- but unfortunately I would say that most of them are very similar themes packaged up in different colors. Anyway, the guy who works here really knows his stuff, and he even pulled out a game set when I had a question about a particular game. Plus, they even have a system where you can rent games out to try to see if you like them! That is incredibly useful for buyers, because patrons don't really know the intricacies of a game by just reading the back of the box. Pros- great selection, staff very knowledgeable and helpful, rental system Cons- fairly expensive, not as many older games read more

So many games in here! Duh! Also, the man working the counter knew everything, as previous reviewers have said. He gave us the pros and cons of every game. The games here are more expensive than, say, Amazon, so shopping here is about supporting locals and because you love the place so much. read more
