It's so easy just to sit at home and download music or listen to Spotify but we forget about our local, independent music shops. There's a smell that permeates Apollo Music that implies they've been around for a while. And they have. I remember when it was The Record Factory and my Dad used to take me in when I was a wee girl on a Saturday. Not for me, obviously, but for him. I bought my first CD out of here-Boyzone- 15 years ago. More recently though, I've ventured in for a nosy when I've been around that part of Paisley. They have an absolutely outstanding Vinyl selection including some rare ones like Heroes by Bowie and Let it Be by The Beatles. They also have a pretty good collection of reasonably priced CDs (remember them?!) and you can get 2 for £10 across most of them. You won't pay over £10 for a new album and quite a lot of the time-they'll give away a free poster or something. We need more independent music shops in the wake of the demise of HMV and the likes. I think it's something that a lot more people will get onboard with as having a 'niche' taste in music becomes more cool. The staff are also great and you know that they've been doing this for years.

This is a great branch of this well known store, absolutely full of large numbers of cut-price…read morebooks (probably the best value you'll find anywhere), greetings cards, stationery, toys, DVDs (including low-priced box sets) and so much more. It's also very good for craft-making things and art supplies. At the moment it's a good place to go for stocking-fillers and other Christmas gifts, plus wrapping paper, sellotape and other useful items. Found in the Piazza Shopping Mall which is under cover and easy to find, close to the centre of town.

There are snacks and soft drinks available as well, including Coca-Cola and the famous Irn Bru! You can also play the national lottery here. The staff seemed quite pleasant when I was in there recently.

What a little treasure trove. I'd quite happily live here if I could. I love books. I just love…read morethem. When you walk in, that musty smell of old bookshop hits you like a tonne of books (see what I did there). I'd quite happily spend the day perusing the aisles of this shop. You'll find almost anything here and if you can't find it, the very helpful staff will source it for you and order it in. I remember when I was in sixth year at school, they managed to source a James Joyce book for my advanced higher English. It's a little hidden gem in Paisley, up by the university and nestled away in the West End. They also have free Wi-Fi. The only thing I will say is that you'll have to manouevre piles of books, but that only adds to the charm of this place!
