A bit of the country in the city and so stylishly done!…read more This could be my new favourite shop as it can easily brighten anyone's day. A feast for the eyes, this part home decor, flower shop, and gift shop is a real treat to walk through. And in the middle of Covent Garden a breath of fresh air. Lovely table displays show off beautiful flowers while garden goods are laced with french soaps. A sort of French provancal meets the English country garden of decor. Next door is a deli and flower shop also very pretty and fanciful. I can see Instagramers and bloggers hanging out here regularly with their entourage of photographers and stylists capturing that 'casual' cup of coffee while the rest of us sit back and smell the roses.

No one greeted us for well over 7 min so went to La Giocca to get help. The bar inside Petershsm is all style, no substance. Staff pretty but not a clue how to treat customers to a NORMAL service. Music is too loud. The tea service is all style w/out the fundamental basics of a tea strainer that fits the oversize cup so you get tea leaves in tea. Bar tender waitress all smiles but no advice on tea, not a clue. Irritating back and forth on ordering food where I went to bar to order, had to repeat it twice only to be told she would come to the table. Lady, I already told you twice! Out of my seat! Didn't have a clue what arancini is and it's on the menu. Took her 10 min to get to us and it want busy. Flagged her down to remind we never got water. Upon paying the nice bar tender was approached by a staff waiter who yelled at him for not finishing showing him something. AT OUR TABLE. Didn't need to see/hear this. I know of you pay peanuts you get monkeys but thought Petersham would be above reproach. Never giving this place my money again and now I feel jaded about the Richmond restaurant. Sad days!

These guys only sell wholesale and I have never seen a collection like this in a shop. If you are looking for a new baby gift they have brilliant kiddies room decoration stuff, and as for stocking fillers, well this place is ideal. Nothing is more than £20 and some start from as little as £2.95 so you can really go nuts if you wanted to. As I have mentioned before I have happy places in London, this is one of them. Recently however, I've had a revelation and I am now growing not one, but six (!) different herbs. Although off-put occassionally by rouge squirrels having a nosey, last weekend I successfully grew them to the height that repotting was required. Not up for treking out to one of the mega gardening centres, I was very pleased to discover that only 10 minutes walk away was the beautiful North One! This little garden centre is small but perfectly formed. As well as stock a range of pot plants and herbs, they have every type of seed, soil, pot and cane imaginable. Prices are however, a bit more steep than you would get in one of the chains. I was a bit taken a back to discover that a cute purple bench, just big enough for two but no more was selling for £250. Needless to say I left that one to someone that might be feeling a bit more flash than myself! Now I've put my gardening kitty to use I can safety assure you that Mr Mint, Lord Thyme, Miss Chives, Sir Sage, Prof Parsely and Queen Rosemary are looking better than ever! Four terracotta pots, soil, plant food, and a few other bits and pieces came to around £35. Ok, it's a bit more than I wanted to pay but the whole day was lovely. No long commute. No chain garden centre. Just a lovely walk around Islington followed by a day of getting my hands dirty. Perfect!

It's not huge, but it is packed with everything you could ever want in a kitchen, and a few implements that even I was unsure of what to do with! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and it's almost impossible to escape without having bought anything. I wandered in with a (guy) friend who pooh-poohed all kitchenware, and yet even he walked out with a Japanese carving knife at £60... They even get stock in for you if you ask them to. I feel a bit bad, as I asked them to get in a bean slicer, only to immediately find one elsewhere. The 10 bean slicers sitting forlornly on their hook stare at me every time I go in...I don't feel too bad though, I have since bought a jam funnel, some olive wood spoons and a special cleaning brush for sweetcorn.

My point is that there seems to very little sense of direction in Muji, as you can tell from the somewhat blasé customers it seems to attract. It's too small to accommodate the higher-class department store shtick (that torch obviously being held by places like Fenwicks... etc). Having said this there is a good clean atmosphere here, and it can be quite fun to look around... I just don't really know what I'm looking for when I'm their.
