I ordered the burger with fries and my friend ordered the chicken sandwich with fries sprinkled w truffle. Both were outstanding. After trying the fries w the truffle, I recommend those. Galena Taphouse has only been open for a couple years now, but it feels much older, in the absolutely best way. The place is kinda small, but has good table seating and an awesome bar. There are a few TVs to watch the local sportsball game. And they have a great, broad selection of beers. Not sure which beer to get, ask for a recommendation or a little taste - they got you. The staff could not be friendlier, as is the owner. We were instantly treated like regulars. All that makes for a great time, but then you add in the food. Really amazing. The food here is not bar food, it's far better, creative and seasonal. Come and eat here and you will see what I mean - it's quite excellent. You will not be disappointed. read more

We arrived to Galena for the first time ever and needed a lunch spot with a patio for our pups. It was chilly and, unknowingly, two minutes before open, but the host got a table cleaned up and ready for us immediately. We proceeded to have 10 out of 10 service and some of the best chicken wings I've ever had. They are chimichurri sauced and lightly fried to perfection. My wife got a steak salad that she loved and the wings came with crispy, thin cut steak fries that were also lights out. A neat little gem in the heart of Galena. House chefs from Miami make a changing menu come to life. The Lobster Mac and Cheese was fantastic. It was a little "rich" to eat quickly, so make sure you pair it with a wine or a tap beer and take a few sips in between bites to cleanse your palate. The bartender was very attentive and helped frame the story of the establishment. A charming atmosphere gives a chill vibe that mixes the historic building with a modern feel. Kitchen is open the latest in Galena and is legit. There are also many gluten- free options that beats any "bar" food downtown. read more

The Side Mixed Greens & Cucumber Dressing was very fresh, however they did not include the Cucumber Dressing. Rated 4 because of no dressing, otherwise a 5 all around. The beer options were fun to try and liked every beer I tried in my beer flight would recommend the vanilla beer so unique and never tried anything like it. Galena Taphouse was a first-time place for us to visit. The weather was great, and we were interested in trying something new. This is not a large place, so know that it may be tricky if you're going in there with a group of people looking to share a large table. They've got table-top seating and a nice bar seating area, and it's a little tight, depending on where you sit. We got the House Salad, along with the Taphouse Project Burger. They have no business calling this thing a house salad; it was delicious, and the avocado was filling--not like the standard house salads we're used to receiving. That's definitely a compliment, and it was very tasty! The burger was arguably one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. From their description: This arrangement of tasteful delights starts with an 8 oz Prime Rib & Brisket Burger topped with white cheddar, hickory bacon, & a fried egg. Mayo, pink sauce, lettuce, onion, and served with a pickle spear and sea-salt, thin cut, steak fries. I read it and was sold - it came out as pure perfection, and the photos will do no justice here. The doneness, the juice, the perfectly cooked egg, and the toppings. My family saw it, and there was no way they would allow me to consume all of it without trying it out. If you are at all on the fence about trying it, I'd go back tomorrow and order it in a heartbeat. The marriage of flavors and the dripping juices from the Prime Rib and Brisket combo - I can't type anymore because I'm getting hungry for one. The drink selections were great. They made suggestions based on menu items and were very knowledgeable about all the options. Everything we saw there looked great, so we will be back to sample more from the menu. My husband and I stopped in because it was 9pm on a Tuesday and most places in Galena were closed. Well, it's my new favorite spot! We live in San Diego and I've tried truffle fries at a ton of places. This place has THE BEST by far! We also enjoyed the pork egg rolls and the shrimp fried rice. So amazing. The service was also amazing. Last hour of the night and Rick and Max had the same energy I would expect at opening! Also it was super clean and you can see back in the kitchen. This is the one restaurant I go to when either we want to go out for a meal for just the two of us or we have guests visiting. When I go out to eat, I want something that I cannot make it home because I either don't have the knowledge or can't get my hands on the ingredients. I have never been disappointed by the Taphouse. If local beer on tap is your thing, you will want to wet your whistle here. If beer is not your thing, they have a variety of canned cocktails and have added wines to enjoy with your meal. The atmosphere is cozy, the place is intimate; and if you are walking in off the street, feel free to eat at the bar. They do take reservations and for a party of four or more I would recommend it. I cannot say enough about the food. Chef does a wonderful job of mixing up the seasonal menus, and I am sure everyone in your party will find a dish to please, whether you have adventurous foodies, cautious meat and potatoes, folk, vegetarians, etc. The grilled octopus appetizer that I had for my entrée last night was the best I ever had. read more

S P E C T A CU L A R. This is a foodies paradise so don't be diverted by the name. Yes, they have some beers on tap but that's a diversion. This place is really about the food. Chef Gino has some fantastic recipes, creating multiple WOW moments during our meal of pulled pork egg rolls and the pork belly shrimp stir fry. The bar service ladies & men were great and very accommodating. Prices are very reasonable. Ambience is . . . well, it's a bar, what did you expect? I can't wait to go back, which is the greatest compliment I can give to a restaurant. PS. We ate here twice more during our visit to Galena, once for lunch and a second evening meal. Each time was F A N TA S T I C. The food is off-the-charts flavorful and the service is friendly and efficient. This place on Yelp is sadly characterized under the "Bar" category instead of a "Restaurant"; consequently, it's easily overlooked. The food here is nothing short of amazing. The Peruvian style ceviche is the best ceviche I have ever had and the sweet potatoes added to it are surprising and delightful. I recently had the special which was a whole fried sea bass with fried plantains and avocado and red onion and tomato and it was as delicious as well as being visually stunning. I'm not sure how this place doesn't have more than six reviews (at my time of posting). It was surprisingly busy for a Sunday evening and like many places there was limited wait staff, but they were attentive as possible. The food was very good. The pork belly bao buns were a little pricey for the portion, but the taste was amazing. We also shared a salad that was a good portion for two...also very good, particularly the salad dressing. Not a brewery, however a great selection of craft beers from the Galena area. We would absolutely eat there again. Sister restaurant of Grape Escape (also one of our faves in the area). read more
