He has been giving my son the runaround ever since. Please keep in mind that my son is ELEVEN YEARS OLD. The guy sold his cards on Ebay, keeping 30% for himself, leaving my son with $45 coming back to him. After 2 weeks of my son asking for his money (and he was making his OWN phone calls to this man - not relying on us to do it for him), he finally told my son that he could come get his payment. Well, 2 1/2 weeks ago, I took him there after work and the guy gave him $20 and said, "sorry, I'll have to get the rest to you". He came out to the car and told me, so I went in and told him that was not acceptable. He said he didn't have the rest of the money (well, where did it go???), and that he would mail my son a check. A week passed, with my son asking every day if his check came. No check. So, last Thursday I called him again and got a story that he had been out of town and forgot his checkbook, and that he'd mail it in a day or 2. Again, a week passed, so I went in there. My older son and I walked in there tonight and stood, patiently waiting while he was about to help a customer. (My son was with his dad at the time). The guy, right in front of everyone there, said he felt like I was treating him like a criminal and that I'm HARASSING him. At first I laughed because I thought he was kidding. Then he said, "no, for real". And then went on about how I have a horrible attitude about all of this and that he is just not sending my son his money because we keep asking for it. I stayed very calm and just said SIR. You took money from an 11 year old BOY. You sold something with the understanding that you would keep your portion, not keep your portion AND his. I have not done anything wrong here. He stood his ground for a few minutes, claiming he didn't have the money. I said that I live a half hour away and this is now the 4th time I've had to come in regarding this, and that I'm done. (Not to mention that as we were walking in, a guy was walking out with comic books in hand -- no money?). I said I would not be coming back and that my son will NOT be a customer of his again, and that I can't believe he would treat his customers like this. I can't believe this person yelled at me and was trying to make his other customers think I was some crazy person with the looks and gestures he was making. I'm sure he's just trying to look "cool" in front of his friends, but seriously. We're talking about a GROWN MAN trying to take advantage of a little boy. This is called being a bully. In the end, he still owed my son $25. I managed to get $20 out of him. As he handed it to me, I politely said "thank you. That was all we wanted. Merry Christmas." I will NOT be returning, and I suggest if you know of this place, that you do not either. As a matter of fact, when he was on the phone when we were coming in, he was telling someone else that he couldn't get their money to them till next week. What kind of business is this? He should be ashamed of himself. I'll make the $5 difference up to my son myself. Lord have mercy.

A little weird, but I liked it…read more I stopped in after they were supposed to be open and they weren't. Hmm. No one was there, so then I thought maybe they're getting off to a slow start that afternoon and I'll come back in a few. I came back a couple of hours later after running other errands and they were open. The open sign was lit, so my wife and I opened the door- to complete darkness. We were startled and must've surprised the owner (at least we think he was the owner/manager). He was standing at the counter rummaging around in the complete dark, yet his store was open? Strange. It appeared that he just got there. He told us to turn the light on behind us and sort of mumbled what appeared to be an apology. Okay? Anyway, after flipping on the lights, we checked out the store. They had a lot of nice comics, great variety and all reasonably priced, even some that were very low-priced. Everything from Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman to Thor and Xmen. The store was organized and comic book series were displayed as they should be. Still, the whole experience was a little weird. While shopping and at the point I was ready to purchase a comic, the owner casually threw it out there that he didn't have a credit card reader, although he made it sound like he either did at one time or was expecting to do it, but I'm really not sure. That threw us for a loop. He just mentions it as we're buying something? Then he proceeded to say that he knows he needs to put up a sign advertising "cash only" or something. Gee, thanks. Luckily, I had cash. I would've bought a lot more if we could've paid via credit card. While we were paying, he then said that he hoped we had exact change because he didn't have anything in the cash register to make change! Really? The entire experience was so strange that my wife and I joked about it in the car that maybe we happened upon a robbery or something and maybe there was someone tied up in the back. It didn't make any sense. Joking aside, I'm sure the guy was the owner, but the atmosphere was strange. I liked the selection and prices, but everything other than that was bewildering to me. Would I come back? Yes, probably, at least to see if the customer service has improved in any noticeable way.

The store is OVER-FLOWING with OVER-PRICED junk!!! I used to go to Comic Relief all the time back in the day. As a matter of fact, it was my go to…read moreshop. Then I stepped away from comic books for a while. Having recently returned to reading and collecting, I have had the opportunity to visit a couple of times. The first experience was very underwhelming. My friend and I went in looking for some back issues. There was a single person working who didn't even bother to greet us when we walked in or even say two words. As we hunted through the back issues, again, wasn't spoken to at all. Finally I asked about a couple books was basically waved over towards the general area. His dinner was much more important. (Spent over $30) But hey, everyone has an off day so I said I would give it another chance later on. Second experience started with a phone call that left me feeling like I was causing an inconvenience. But I wanted the books and they had them. So off I went. This experience was much like the last. Walked in and there wasn't anyone around at all. I found the book I was looking for on the shelf and grabbed it and proceeded to browse back issues again. Found some I wanted. Owner/manager finally appeared and chatted with another person that came in afterwards. Still didn't acknowledge me. Went to check out, stood at the counter while he wandered around. Finally noticed me. Checked me out ($40). Barely spoke. So...while they have a great selection of back issues and current stuff is usually in stock, I am about the experience as much as the purchase and it was just a sucky experience. Comic Relief was not a welcoming place. I don't know if it is because I am not a regular or what. If all you want is to get your books and leave, then have at it. If you want an enjoyable experience and especially if you are new to the store or comic collecting, I would recommend heading over to Amazing Bookstore on Richfield or, if you don't mind the drive, Coy Comics in Saginaw. Both places offer a great experience.
