I love the Cumberland Sausage Show on a Saturday as it's hilarious. I always put the drive time show on before setting off in the car as they do regular traffic repors which are handy. There are regularly changing exhibitions in the Art Gallery, and interesting history and art displays in Old Tullie House and in the new wing. They are really good at putting on activities for children at half term and in the school holidays, and these are usually free. It's a gem - and the cafe's good too! Tullie House is also the only place you will be able to see arthouse films in Carlisle now.

I am bearing the Brunton of the criticism for this team only reaching the top tier for one season…read more Carlisle is a grand old team, and this is a beautiful stadium. The roof is a beautiful shade of blue, and it's one of the biggest and loudest venues in League Two with 18k fans able to attend. First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - One of the best stadiums in the lower leagues, for sure. This might even be in my top 5 lower league stadiums in the country. It's wonderful. It's been kept up well. It's very loud. It's passionate. It's a credit to the region and country. I saw Oxford play here years ago, away, and then I saw a game here in 2011 and again in 2014. I'm addicted to seeing games here. I've seen hundreds in my life but coming here is always an intense and memorable day out. I've been to most UK & US stadiums, due to lifelong obsessions with travel, sport & especially footy (soccer to Americans). Born & raised in England, I followed Oxford United (hometown team) to stadia all over the country at away games, and later Liverpool (fave team) around. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are from first-hand personal experience, usually from several visits. In 2011, I was on music tour in the UK, and visited most stadiums for fun in my spare time. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in UK for 3 months, I went to hundreds yet again while travelling. I have pictures of me at most, which I'll post later. Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** Its history is long and storied, and it was even a Premier League (wasn't called that then) ground in the 70s when the team reached the top flight for one season only. If you're ever up here, be sure to come and see a game... it's true English football and there aren't many places like this left. Please Yelp, separate this listing (the stadium) from the club listing that I just reviewed, since a club and a stadium are separate entities on Yelp USA and most of the British teams have separate listings too.

The cafe during the day is very serene and a wonderful place to meet friends for lunch or just to chillax with coffee. I would say that the feel of the place is very ethnic, the seating is all light wood and you can use one of the many boardgames available to entertain yourself with. My particular favourite is backgammon. There are lots of lovely big plants everywhere making for a lovely atmosphere and the view of Carlisle from the windows is truly brilliant. The food is all homemade and really healthy and the ingredients are sourced locally. Although I haven't made my way completely through the menu yet I would particularly recommend that you try the homemade pizza, burgers and the mezze. The food tends to have a meditteranean feel and the salad that accompanies most main courses is always fresh. For drinks they do a wide range of coffee, soft drinks and their speciality homemade lemonade which has mint leaves in it and again is to die for. On a night time the cafe turns into a bar and I have been to some really good acoustic nights. The customers and staff are really laid back and friendly and it is a wonderful night out. You can even access the internet from here as they have a computer. Although a little bit out of the way it is well worth a visit.

Stadium style seating, assigned seats but the seats are small, and don't recline at all. You pay for your ticket and concessions up front at the same counter. You can even get milkshakes there. Though I wouldn't reccommend them, they were awfully sweet, over sweet. The popcorn was alright, and of course I got bottled water because that's what I drink. The previews were entertaining because UK commercials are SO much better and more inventive than US.

Considering Carlisle is a small place, the screenings never get very full or rarely do so meaning that you can pretty much have the pick of all the seats - great if you have preference to sitting in a particular area. Also, word of warning - if you have a screening in either screen 4/5/6/7 prepare to walk a hell of lot of stairs!

A night out for 2 (for just the tickets) can cost in excess of £12, nevermind any refreshments. And you NEED the refreshments to get through the 20minutes of trailers and adverts before the film even starts. The seats are comfy, and the screens are a decent size. However the staff are not interested in the customers, and the joint queue for both refreshments AND tickets is ridiculous, especially if your film is about to start!
