I went out and saw no fallen tree branch or anything else that could've caused such a noise, but then I tried opening the garage door and noticed the opener seized up after lifting it about a foot off the ground. Did some googling and discovered that the torsion spring (assists in opening and closing) above the door had snapped. Called Lester's as they'd last worked on our garage almost a decade ago when we replaced the original door that came with the house. They accommodated our request for early one morning ASAP. Nick arrived and rapidly replaced the spring and also lubed up the door hinges to help the opener have an easier time. The only hassle was my own fault as I had to scramble to clear the clutter around the door so he could work. Door's fixed, all is well. Would definitely recommend!
