I'm so happy to have my family doctor (Dr. Eddy). He really cares and always investigates my concerns.

I was in there to ask about what I could do about sunspots on my face as they seem to be getting worse every year. I know people who have "burned" or lasered them off or use microdermabrasion, etc... so I wanted to know my options. In what took about 30 seconds - this dr. blurted out 2 fancy names for the types of sunspots I have on my face, told me that because I have "dark skin" (FYI - I actually have very fair skin but because I am not caucasian, my skin is considered to be "dark") - he doesn't recommend removing them because the results could be worse. I then asked if there were any other treatment options or creams - he said there was nothing that he knew of that actually works. In the 9 minutes and 30 seconds that followed, he proceeded to talk non-stop about the vacation spot that my family and I were planning on going to (suggesting places to go, where to eat, etc...). It was like he HAD to spend 10 minutes with me and it didn't matter how those 10 minutes were spent. What a complete waste of time! If your family physician refers you to this guy - ask for someone else!

Very disappointing experience at AbleCare (WELL Health Medical Centre - Coquitlam)…read more Last night, I booked an online appointment through prime option for my 7-year-old daughter. She had an earring stuck in her ear, which was completely stuck and infected, and I could not remove it at home. I was relieved to have an appointment scheduled for the next morning. Around 11 a.m., a nurse from AbleCare called and informed me that our family doctor could not see my daughter today, without any clear explanation. I explained the full situation to the nurse, including that her condition was serious, and that she could not wait until tomorrow -- she needed to be seen immediately. The nurse said she would speak to the doctor and call me back, but I never received a follow-up call. This cancellation caused unnecessary delay and stress. After several attempts to reach the clinic, I was finally able to speak with another nurse around 1:30 p.m., who arranged for my daughter to be seen by Dr. Morne Smit, who is the head of the clinic. When we arrived, Dr. Morne Smit examined my daughter and said she needed a small injection to numb her ear before removing the earring. My daughter was scared and resisted receiving the injection. Dr. Smit initially stated that he would leave and not perform the procedure because my daughter was not his patient and was unwilling to receive the injection, and suggested coming back the next day. However, after examining her, he recognized that there was an infection in her ear and ultimately performed the procedure and prescribed antibiotic cream. Despite this, his attitude was unprofessional and showed a complete lack of empathy. Overall, I found the clinic's communication and responsiveness disappointing. I appreciate the help of the kind nurse.

In the past five years with this practice I have experienced -being sent to specialists without my medical information being sent to them therefore making my appointment useless as the specialist only knew my name. -being sent to a specialist that was confused about my appearance there as their practice was not in the part of the body that was experiencing the issue -being sent to a specialist but booked for the wrong procedure despite detailed instructions on what was desired and clarification or the Physician's understanding before booking -every in person appointment being 1-1 1/2 hours past the appointment time with appointments lasting roughly 3 minutes -on every occasion testing was done results were not conveyed to me without myself calling them to find out. Regardless of whether the results should have led to medication and health procedures. -phone appointments being avoided by the practitioner by calling a minimum of 30minutes past the appointment time and if that single call is missed requiring the call to be rescheduled for a later date. I was told at the desk "It'll be a 1/2 hour wait, we might be able to bump you sooner though". 2 hours later I finally got to see the Doc. She was rude and seemed annoyed to have to waste time on me (I was being very polite!)... She only wrote down one of my symptoms before saying "What do you think I can do for you? Go get some Gravol and go home." First of all, I get that it always takes longer than they say it will at any doctor's. I waited patiently without a word. To be that far off though - 1/2 hour vs 2 hours? Secondly, she could have treated me much nicer! No "sorry for the wait" or even an "I'm afraid there isn't much I can do for you except suggest taking Gravol". Also no tests done at all, she didn't touch me or write anything other than "felt chills, no diarrhea" down. Lastly - I agree with the other review about maintenance... the place needs some tweaks and cleaning.

Hate to give a doctor a one-star rating, but what else can I do with a misdiagnosis?…read more Review is under a different name. I went in last Saturday, July 25, as I had damaged the arch in my right foot. I explained to the doctor that I was a very active hiker and trail runner, and had been in pain for about two weeks, and although it had been improving I had injured it again a couple of days prior. I explained that I had gone swimming, and when I dived off the edge into the pool, I thought I felt something 'tear' in my arch (it was excruciating) and the next day the arch was purple. I showed my foot to him- he did not even bend down, never mind touch it or examine it- simply said 'it's plantar fasciitis' and told me to rub Arnica on it to get rid of the bruising, and said I'd be fine in two weeks. Of course, I'd been researching arch pain online, and really didn't think he was correct- I had been on crutches since the 'tear', the symptoms didn't really fit, and I just really felt it was more serious. So the next day I spent 6 hours in the emergency at Eagle Ridge hospital to see someone. The ER doc, (who was AWESOME), after examining my purple, swollen arch, doing a manual examination including pressing on the affected area and an x-ray, agreed that it was not plantar fasciitis, and gave me a referral to see a sports medicine specialist as I had likely torn the ligament a bit and there could also be a tiny fracture in my foot. She said I would be lucky to walk normally within three weeks and it would be at least three months before I can run again. (Hoping I can resume with no problems after healing). So I'm left with a very bad impression of the doctor at Care Point- the fact that he did not even touch my foot still pisses me off. If I had not taken it upon myself to get another opinion, I could have worsened my injury. UPDATE- Dec 10 2015 It's now been over four months, and my foot is still not healed. Because as it turns out, I did indeed tear my plantar fascia. The doctor at Allan McGavin Sports Med at UBC sent me for an ultrasound. Current prognosis is another 4-6 months before I am healed and ready to resume my former activity level. Seriously- the doctor at this Carepoint clinic was an idiot.
