From very early to extremely late!

A popular gay bar for all ages, however mainly a younger crowd. Great bar prices always with a good selection of lagers and bottled drinks.

This female door supervisor doesn't accept heterosexual couples into G-A-Y as in her own words states it's door policy
Mr Mrs H.

My wife & myself was denied access to G-A-Y club last night due to us being heterosexual which in the door supervisors own words is door policy & we was refused access to the venue. We questioned the door supervisors actions, to then be told if we knew a gay person within the premises we would be granted access which we did but was still was not granted access, the door supervisor then went onto saying if we made a compliant she would radio all the other night clubs within the gay community to have us refused access to each venue. Obviously we complainted and went back to the lovely venue we previously socialising within but when we arrived door staff from another club around the corner 'tried' to stop us entering 'New York New York' but the management was involved and we was granted access. The whole situation left us feeling really let down by the door supervisors actions we have lots of gay friends and actively support our gay community but to have a policy that targets hetrosexuals is disputable.

£2 for a San Miguel, what could be wrong with that? Horror horror horror! This place began as Spirit, the purpose built new bar in a reinvented gay scene in the late'90s. Cutting edge build with roof terrace, great food and service. It was a sign of the times. Sadly the time it's a sign of now is bored indifference - a tragic feature of the once fashionable 'west end' of Canal Street. The glory days are over. It looks like a toilet, smells like a toilet yet gives no sense of relief! Doubtless its 3 floors still serve well as an undiscriminating dance space when late in the evening, but apart from cheap beer, it's only redeeming feature in daylight, it's a slum. Top tip - worth it if you're as broke as it is.

Little things can mean a lot and this was certainly one such occasion. Thanks AXM, we all had a fantastic time with my personal highlight being the slow dance I had with a lady called John who had suspiciously large hands! Will in accordance with the doorman's advice next time- and there WILL be a next time!

Hmph! I was spurned here!…read more I took a stranger to a symphony concert, one I was looking forward to for months, because my friend flaked just an hour before because he forgot he had to star in a French play that night. The stranger oddly enough played bassoon in orchestras, and was a DJ. His name was ... something like Kieran but without all the vowels. Not Kyan. Ah, I blocked it out. Anyway, he told me to stop by his Saturday night DJ gig, so I did. It was full of 17 year-old girls and their not-yet-out boyfriends. K__ played "Brown Eyed Girl" (the *other* popular song that year, along with "Can't Get You Out of My Head") like a million times, so I left after a half hour. We did the little macho fist bump too. Then when I emailed him to go hang out, he gave the whole, "Not looking for more friends in my life," schtick. Dude. Like I even asked to be all attached to your hip, Krygyzstan.

I guess, as James points out, that Churchills' something is the eclectic group of customers who drink harmoniously alongside each other. Yes, as an ex-student and generally quite bourgeoise fool, the sight of a scally strikes the fear o' gawd into me. But it really needn't. At Churchills, everyone is friendly and nice, or they keep to themselves. Though it's a couple of minutes off the main thoroughfare of Canal Street, it still gets sufficiently busy, and never feels empty. That's probably down to the staff as much as the punters, as they are always friendly, and will have a bit of banter with pretty much anyone. As Alexandra says, it's always nice to find £3 doubles in the city centre, and even nicer when they're done well. I had a cracking G&T here a few weeks back, and will certainly be returning for moe. Though perhaps not on a Sunday. Once you've seen a 6'5" drag queen do Back to Black, your karaeoke mojo somewhat shrivels...

It doesn't really matter, because when I see skinheads and scallies enjoying a pint next to drag queens and leather wearing elderly chaps (no pun intended) it always brings a tear to my eye. What a progressed and civilized gang of drunks we are. Karaoke, cask ale, pub food, pub decor- ohhhh yes. Word of advice- do not approach the DJ, I'm sure he bites.

I have a sore head. It's not good but it's the price you pay for a great night out. Ruby Lounge…read moretotally exceeded expectations. Me, planning, making a decision is a rare thing. My suggestion was actually a hit. I did my indecisive alterego very proud. There are many quality club nights organised by the Lost and Found name and this was no exception. Dance off, being £1 entry, sold it for me. Doubles for £3, a range of sambucas £1.50? Messy. Dance off saw a battle between three major DJs, strangerways, good vibrations and juicy DJs playing a mix of Joy Division, The Temptations and Dr Dre. Amazing combination. Ruby Lounge is renown for it's quality club nights and live music. The venue is perfect, with an adequate dance floor, a stage to match and plenty of seating on a slightly raised level for a chill out. Another great Northern Quarter location that needs to become a regular thing for me.

I think this might be a strip club. In fact I'm pretty sure. Well, it wasn't when I was in the Ruby…read moreLounge last night for a Lost and Found gig which is why I felt comfortable to take my boyf in with me. The gig was billed as The Cribs Aftershow but it was basically just a gig- most of the spectators were either in one of the four bands, looked like they should be or were girl groupies who were way too impressed with themselves that they were getting backstage. The sofas and high backed armchairs in the main bar area were nice touches, there were a few mirror balls around too. Plus velvet curtains - hello, strip club? Then you turn to the grimy stage area with the big grill up between the bands and the crowd. That said, no one went past the pillar anyway. Too cool to stand right at the front. Alright drinks prices - get some of their cheap vodka mixers or flavoured sambucas otherwise you'll run out of money quickly. After the bands they had Gareth Brooks from Xfm DJIng but we didn't end up staying.
