The customer service here is some of the worst I've encountered in my entire life. I have literally experienced better service at the DMV. If given the choice of shopping here or going to the DMV, I would pick the DMV. Spend your money somewhere else where customer service is a top priority.
On 12/26/14, I went to the store to purchase a gift card as a Christmas gift for my friend. I saw that there were people waiting in a line at the registers, so I stood in that line, awaiting my turn. I waited in the line I was in for approximately 5 or 10 minutes while people were being taken care of in front of me. Then, when it finally became my turn, the cashier told me that I had to wait in the other line, because she was only handling exchanges and returns. As I was waiting I saw that another line was beginning to form, but thought nothing of it. I'm not one to jump lines, because inevitably once I do, the line I was previously in always begins to move quite quickly. Also, there were other people behind me who thought the same. Anyway, I told the cashier that was ridiculous, and she ignored my protest, and simply repeated that she was only handling returns and exchanges. I then told her that I was in her line since before the other line formed, and asked her to simply sell me a gift card. Her next response tore it for me...she just shrugged her shoulders like she didn't care and again repeated that she is only handing returns and exchanges.
There was absolutely no reason why she could not sell me a simple gift card. The register obviously had a proper connection and was running fine. There were also no signs indicating that her line was only for returns and exchanges and nobody was monitoring the lines to make sure that people were entering the proper ones. Surely, my transaction would have taken a much shorter amount of time than any return or exchange. I can't imagine any reason why she would choose to not sell me a gift card. This woman should be fired. I worked in retail for over 10 years. If I EVER treated a customer in the manner she treated me, I would have been fired on the spot. Her poor attitude, lack of empathy, and poor job performance cost this company at least one customer that day. I can only imagine how many others she has angered during her employment.
Against my better judgement, after leaving the store to walk around the parking lot to cool down, I did eventually stand in the other line and purchase a gift card, but only for a fraction of the amount I was originally going to. I now regret making this purchase all together. I later chose to take my business to one of FYE's competitors and obtained the bulk of my gift card purchase there. I will never shop here or at any of their sister stores again.
It would seem that a store whose primary source of income is obtained through the sale of a dying medium would want to retain customers through excellent customer service, but clearly that isn't the case. If this is the type of customer service I should expect at FYE, I look forward to the day that lost profits from electronic downloads shut down this company! read more
