When you did Moma's (hip?), you told us at her hospital bed that you were "going into academia." You were so excited to share that with us and thus, I shared it with friends and strangers over the years, wishing you only love. You left the Reno Orthopedic Clinic (ROC) practice and as far as I knew were still teaching. Imagine my surprise when I found you had gone into private practice. It grieves me -- *GRIEVES ME* -- to leave only my third negative review, but you forced my hand when we mutually fired one another. ME: Quietly, with tears rolling down my face, "I am afraid I won't be back." YOU, DR. SHONNARD: "That will probably be for the best." After manipulating my wounded knees for absolutely no good reason, you then turned and left me to my tears and the kindness of your staff, who held the door and saw me out. My after-care notes have exactly ZERO in them. You did import my meds from MyChart, which, what do I even say because YOU didn't import anything. Again, it was YOUR AMAZING STAFF. Dr. Sekhon immediately recognized the urgency of my husband's situation (serious back compression progressing towards cauda equina syndrome). Dr. Sekhon scheduled my husband within 3 DAYS for emergency surgery. If not for Dr. Sekhon I am not sure my husband would ever have regained the ability to have normal bowel function or use his legs again. I am quite surprised at the minimal scar. And this is hard to believe, I know, but I did not even bruise! At. All. No bruising. He is incredibly talented, answers all questions, takes his time and doesn't leave the room until all your questions and concerns are addressed. I'm two weeks post-op and couldn't be happier with the recovery and again, very minimal scar. Dr. Shonnard is an expert in his field and he earned 100% of my trust. During my initial consultation with Dr. Zollinger, I pointed out the exact location of my pain, but…read morehe sat approximately three feet away from me. The surgeon's PA later specifically told me that my pain was coming from my right SI joint. Despite this, the procedures I ultimately received did not target the SI joint. I am particularly concerned because I was told that SI joint ablation is not covered by my insurance. That leaves me questioning why a different procedure was performed and whether insurance coverage influenced what was done. I cannot say that was the reason, but as a patient, I believe it is a reasonable concern when the procedure performed does not match what I understood I was there to receive. I also had a very difficult physical reaction to each procedure. About 10 minutes afterward, I nearly passed out from the extreme pain. This happened after all four procedures--two diagnostic procedures and two actual ablations. None of this was documented in the reports I received. I had to repeatedly call to obtain the reports, and when I asked that my reaction be added to the record, my request was refused. I subsequently sent the reports to my surgeon's PA, who told me that the ablations were for lower back pain. That was not my understanding of what I was supposed to have done, and I have experienced intense lower back pain since the procedures. I am still not certain what was actually targeted. My experience has left me extremely disappointed and concerned about the care I received. I would strongly encourage anyone considering an invasive procedure here to make absolutely certain that the exact area being treated, the specific procedure being performed, and the reason for it are clearly explained and documented beforehand.
