Adam Wallach and Ken Barer do an incredible job of running the camp, marketing it, communicating with parents, rallying kids for weekly spirit days -- and generally rockin' it. The kids swim twice day and are given just the right amount of freedom for their age. My guy was thrilled to ride his bike around on trails independently (without a grownup following closely) in mountain biking. Picky eater though he is, he seems to eat decently well, carbo-loading every day at lunch. Kids get occasional treats like fruit sushi, which the kids get to make themselves, trips to an ice cream truck, and cold (not-too-unhealthy) popsicles in the afternoon. Our guy kept telling us about eating fresh strawberries at lunchtime that were picked, he said, from the camp's own strawberry patch. (I can't verify this claim; it did seem like it'd take an improbably long growing season and an awfully, awfully large patch of strawberries to supply all those hungry kids for the summer.) Counselors keep the kids hydrated in the heat, buses are shockingly timely (MTA should take note!). Bus counselors do a great job of communicating bus arrival times. Activities are varied and interesting, including options like "mining," water works, pottery, archery, crafts, farming(!), all manner of sports (tennis, soccer, baseball, etc..) -- and there is always something new going on. My guy was excited to go from the moment he woke up each morning. Yes, the camp is guilty of blatant cultural appropriation -- but we get that at this point, there's monetary value in the branding that makes change difficult. At least they're changing the logo in coming years. We'd be thrilled if they actually taught the kids a bit about the tribes of the Haudenosaunee / Iroquois Confederacy that the groups are named after. (Our son reports that there is some sort of small "museum" on the grounds with a few artifacts found on-site.) We did some of our own research. All in all a fabulous, fun way to spend the summer. Our guy is counting the years until he gets to be a counselor himself.

Another thing is thether day the staff ask the kids whats the song and what should be the first move in the dance when a kid says lets do this move and everyone hates it and does not want the move they force you to do it. Another thing is lunch the tables are sticky and gross and the food options are not healthy at all. Another thing is the staffs treats others very unfair they have favorites and always and i mean always let them do anything and everyone is left in the dust following the rules. Another thing is when other people who are like workers at the office when they cheek up on the groups the staff are much sweeter.This is why i rate two stars there are many better camps dont waste your money on this one at this point i stopped going here because of everything they do and act if i knew this before i sign up i would of ran away from the sign up forms!!! We went in person hoping to speak with someone directly about the camp and learn more about the program. When we arrived at the school the women at the door told us to call a number posted on the door so someone could come downstairs and speak with us. We were never even welcomed past the front steps and were left standing outside the entire time. After calling the number we were simply told the program was full. No one ever came downstairs to speak with us and no one took the time to explain the program or even mention the possibility of applying next year. The interaction felt very cold, dismissive, and unwelcoming. As someone who works in hospitality I understand how important first impressions and "moments of truth" are. Even if a program is full families should still be treated with kindness, professionalism, and respect. Unfortunately, the way we were treated made me feel very small and unwelcome. Based on this experience I would never want to send my child to a place where families are treated this way.

He loves working with computers and learning coding and the fact that they do go outside and get physical for a few hours a day. The part he loves best is he says no one is judging each other about who is cool or athletic or smart. They are just a bunch of "computer nerds" having a good time and learning. We drop him off at 8 am and pick him up at 830 pm and he doesn't want to leave. The only reason he comes home and does not sleep over is that he doesn't really care for the food. He was able to take a high school online coding class in 7th grade and aced it after 2 weeks of coding the previous summer. He plans to go back every summer for years to come.

Hitchcock school has the best teachers and directors. Everyone is so caring, nurturing, professional and very experienced. The teachers really understand that every child is unique and give a lot of individual attention to every child. Every teacher, as well as both directors, have amazing experience in being an educator, teaching at Hitchock, or being parents themselves. The playground is new, safe, and really a fantastic area for the kids to play. My kids have played for hours after school hours on the playground with their friends. The indoor gym is a huge, open, bright space for the kids to run around in. The school brings out a variety of things to play with, including my kids favorites - bikes. The classrooms all have lots of windows with great light, always very clean and organized, with a variety of educational toys. The 6 month to 24 month program is very unique and a wonderful opportunity that prepared my child for school at an earlier age, while having fun with friends. The children who were in the toddler program are all ready to go when starting the 2s. In the 2s, 3s, and 4s, the school does an incredible job at teaching. We feel our Hitchcock school graduate is very prepared for Kindergarten, compared to his peers. I am very grateful that they take the time and have great patience when teaching children. The school has a great weekly music program and my kids really enjoy learning many songs. They also have fantastic weekly gymnastics class that my kids love. There are also a lot of extra activies, such as woodworking, animals that are brought in or special shows. We have also really enjoyed the after school lunch bunch and extended day opportunities. My child's favorite extended day program was science. From my experiences with other schools in the area, Hitchcock school is truly the best, and where we choose to send our children.
