Pretty good meal nearly ruined by confused and argumentative service. (Yes, by Berlin standards.)
They forgot to put in our order with the kitchen, so we waited an hour before our pizzas were served. Happily the bar order was put through, and were happy to bide our time and enjoy the evening. We ordered a second round of drinks, including two negronis. When they brought us three negronis, we shrugged and were happy to accept a mistake in our favor. Five minutes later the clearly in-way-over-his-head waiter comes back, says "it was a mistake," and without waiting for a response, reaches in and grabs one of the negronis and takes it away. Meanwhile, my negroni has been made incorrectly with an amaro or a fernet-something with menthol notes-and it is Not Right. So when, at long last, our pizzas are served, I tell the waitress. I'd ordered it as an aperitif, but it was made wrong, so please take it back; as we're now eating, I'd rather have a glass of wine. She says OK but 5 minutes later here comes captain "it was a mistake" again to *argue* about whether the negroni had been made correctly. Never mind that we'd already had a round of them, and then they'd brought us 3 instead of 2 and perhaps a bartender's mistake could explain why there was an extra? To him, this is not possible. He of course is above tasting it. So even though the entire table tastes it and agree's it's wrong and the staff have been making sloppy mistakes all night, he is so certain that we are the ones who are wrong this time that he's going to stand at our table and negroni-splain the error of our ways. I have to *beg* him to just leave us alone to enjoy the dinner we waited so long for. Mistakes happen, but when you compound them by blaming the customer and picking fights, it taints the entire experience.
Very good pizza, though. read more
