It is located between North Street and Lantern Road and can be easily seen If you walk the trail. The mural shows activity on the trail, and features a covered bridge, kids listening to music, couples dining on patios and significantly, a memorial tribute to fallen K-9 officer Harlej who was killed in November 2019 during the arrest of a suspect. The human officer Jared Koopman who was Harlej's partner and Koopman's family stopped by to help paint this part of the mural which seemed quite moving to the artist. The artist was assisted by Lily employees as part of their Global Day of Service. It is a nice piece that depicts a bright colored pencil bent around some windows. It definitely catches your eye. There is lots of free street parking available to for you to get out and check out the mural. However, it is not a very long stop and you probably could accomplish what you want to in the comfort of your vehicle. So, as I have mentioned, it is best to plan out stops at many of the other wonderful murals that are within a mile or two of this one.

So, in 2015, Big Car worked with the volunteers for the Lilly Day of Service (LDOS) to paint a mural on the exhibition center/gallery that Big Car had opened near Garfield Park. The graphic design of a pastel pencil that was bent at right angles to frame the windows on the building's west side was painted. The shades of blue and purple are of various shades from lightest to darkest. Review #1717

On the city's east side, the community center has so much to offer the Tarkington, Meridian area. I received a tour today and it was so inspiring to see the work that's being accomplished here. A center of education-they offer after school programs for school aged children for nearby school #43. They also offer childcare services. They have an amazing opportunity for teens to learn about technology in their Best Buy sponsored work lab. They offer teens who are interested in music and opportunity to learn about producing their own music! Such an awesome gem right here in the city! I wish they could spread their impact beyond the Tarkington-Meridian area, because so many more children could benefit from the work this center is doing!

This is a basic, but very nice mural, especially considering it was not painted by a professional…read moremuralist. It was actually painted by Butler student volunteers as part of the 2018 Bulldogs in the Streets. They worked in conjunction with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful. The mural was painted on the side on the MLK Center in Indianapolis and wraps around the side. It is definitely an upgrade from the mural that was there before. It has become the Center's trademark and is used in a lot of the Center's advertisements and marketing. The mural consists of the Words "MLK Center" in huge white block lettering and there is a black & white image of MLK waving. That is all against a bright red background, which draws your eye. The colors used by the students really complement each other and it is rally hard to miss. There is no wonder why the mural has been adopted as the face of the Center. The mural has a small bench centered right in the front of it and overlooks an area that they have made into a peace garden. If you want to park to get out and take a closer look, you can either park at the Center, once the construction is done, or you can do what I ended up doing and park across the street at the Park's parking lot. You should have no problem parking here. As with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is probably not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other wonderful murals in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

It is located in the airport's B concourse. It was placed to welcome fans during the NCAA basketball tournament being held in Indianapolis as part of a powerful community collaboration called Swish. This abstract piece depicts a close up view of some flowers and blossoms. Without context, this mural does not have much meaning outside of the flowers depicted. However, Katner piece has a basketball connection because it is intended to represent a buzzer-beater. The flowers depicted in the mural are shown in a garden just before an initial freeze arrives in October. When speaking of the piece, Katner says, "The playful lines and bright colors call to mind the raucous dance of summer as it tumbles into autumn and finally releases its color until spring." It is a whimsical and color piece. I will admit that the connection is a stretch though and outside of Katner and whoever took the time to research the piece, they will never see the connection. It is a nice piece artistically, but very simple. I do like the texture appearance and the look of vertical brush strokes throughout the mural. This mural is "ok" for me. But because it is located in the Airport, behind the security check point to make it even more complicated. it is hard to get to and practically impossible to just make a special trip to see. The vast majority of people seeing this sculpture will be ticketed passengers flying in or out of the airport. But if you are flying out of the airport and see it, now you have some context and know what you are looking at.

The little girl was inspired by the building owner's daughter. The artist Lehman frequently uses fantasy and children in his works. Some "miscommunication" led the landlord to paint over all the murals in Graffiti Alley with a bland taupe color. After a lot of push back, the landlord welcomed the artist back. After a very successful GO Fund me campaign, the artist came back to the alley with their paint and brought the area back to life. The mural is by Mike Meares, who had expressed his disappointment of the original getting painted over on his Instagram. I like the color used in this piece which is painted on a door. It is so vivid and bright. It depicts some simple alien characters, rocking away on their guitars on a far off planet that is inhabited by large fuchsia colored mushrooms with polka dots. As with most murals I have visited, this is probably not a very long stop. I was there less than 3 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other wonderful murals in the area to maximize your time and trip. Luckily there are a lot of other interesting murals in Graffiti Alley and in the immediate area.

It was painted after some "miscommunication" led the landlord to paint over all the murals in the original Graffiti Alley with a bland taupe color. After a lot of push back, the landlord welcomed the artist back. After a very successful GO Fund me campaign, the artist came back to the alley with their paint and brought the area back to life. The piece depicts a bright red stick of dynamite with a black band on the top and bottom. The fuse in unlit. The dynamite is up against a blue background, which really makes it pop. This piece is very basic, but what I find interesting about it is that it is Aaron's signature piece. He has many I found dynamite murals all over the city, in many different shapes, sizes and configurations. They all have the same features though, the bright red stick of dynamite with the two black bands (one on top and one on bottom), and a white line going straight down the middle of it, from the top of the stick to bottom. Aaron sees dynamite as provocative, having both negative and positive connotations. You will find a larger and more prominent version of a dynamite mural painted by Aaron in the Fletcher Place neighborhood. As a side note, every time I see this piece I think of JJ from Good Times and in my head I say, DY-NO-MITE!!! I know, I am cheesy like that. This mural is tall and slim like JJ too, coincidence or not??? Ok, back on track. Anyway, as with most murals I have visited, this is probably not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. Hammonds was one of three artists selected by the Fishers Arts Council and City of Fishers to paint original pieces on some of the city's green signal boxes in 2016. It is a nice piece that covers both sides of the box. The front is of a train from the side and the back is a train head on. This is one of two boxes that Hammonds did as part of the project. As is the case with most murals that I review, this is probably not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. There is street parking available around the corner from the box. However, you can probably even do a drive by and get a decent look at the mural, especially of you catch the red light. It is best to plan out additional stops at many of the other wonderful murals in the area, including the other signal box murals, to maximize your trip.

One of the signal boxes in Fishers painted by Jacque Hammonds is located right by the train tracks…read more So, it made sense to create a mural with the train theme at this location. The Fair Train that ran through Fishers had an engine on both ends, one black and one red. So Hammonds painted a black engine on the north side and a red engine on the south side of the box to commemorate those. Hammonds also has a second signal box called "Mille Bornes" located at 11669 Commercial Drive. Review #1880
