The mural is colorful and is a tribute to the nearby actual carousel of Noblesville. The mural was painted by a trio of local artists: Nekoda and Croix Witsken and JD Bills. The mural is a bit difficult to see in whole since the alley is not very wide and so it is hard to get the large mural to fit into your camera screen. But traffic is minimal, so if you find a place to park at the shopping center across 10th, it is just a short walk to this alley which is the road that has the liquor store on the corner. The mural is about a block to the east of the liquor store on the opposite side of the alley. Most notable for me was the horse head that is associated with most carousels. This is a neat concept, but not much to it. It is a huge door located in the corner of Memorial…read morePark. It is in a wide open area overlooking the lake. It is a white door frame with four glass panes in the door that are reflective. It is the work of Cydney Campbell, who was a Herron School of Art student at the time. The door is mounted to the ground by a heavy duty bracket on a steel base, but I do not know how structurally sound it is so I would not recommend walking through the door. It is for show and not for go. The piece is was commissioned by the Ft. Benjamin Harrison Reuse Authority, through a partnership with Herron School of Art and Design's Basille Center for Art, Design and Public Life. It is ok, but definitely not a destination stop. I would make this part of a larger itinerary or stop here on my way to somewhere else. There is a small parking lot that belongs to the neighboring apartment complex where I parked to get out and get a closer look. Not a long stop, I was there about 5 minutes, but still worth a look.

It is located in Memorial Park bear fort ben. This is a quick and easy drive and recommend that people try and go explore fort Ben. Memorial park is just past all of those new condos. I parked and started walked into the little park, and the first door was there, it's very tall and has pretty see through glass. There is also 2 other doors located across the park and I wanted to go check them out but there was a heard of angry geese that blocked my way so I could only see them from afar. This is a piece done by a Herron art student, and the park is def some place I would come back and relax and read :)

Marigold clothing is the store to the left, as you are viewing the mural. The mural is the work of Christopher Blice and Jon Edwards of the decorative painting and marketing company Blice Edwards. They painted the mural in 2019. It depicts a small assortment of flowers, featuring a Marigold, hence the name along with a butterfly and a bee. They are set upon a twisted colorful ribbon and a colorful background of mostly yellows and greens. You really need to check out the murals shading while you are visiting. It is amazing. The detail on the mural is awesome. Blice Edwads are very talented and have some really nice pieces across the city. This mural was a nice addition to the area and adds a bit of color. Being that it is in a parking lot, so of it may be obstructed by parked vehicles, but you should still be able to get a good look. Parking to get out and take a closer look at this mural is not an issue. since it over looks a parking lot, be it a private one. But I am sure you will not be there long anyway. There is also some street parking available as well. I was there less than 5 minutes, as with most murals I have visited. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other wonderful murals in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

Together since 1993,…read morethis partnership between Chris Blice and Jon Edwards has been adding beautiful artwork (primarily paintings) to the area based out of their small studio near 54th Street. This mural "Marigold" was added in 2019 just a short distance north of the studio. There is a shop off Cornell that is called Marigold Clothing which has a small parking lot to the west of the shop. A large wall of Broad Ripple Brewpub is adjacent to the south side of the lot. It is this wall that the team has added giant marigold flowers along with a butterfly and honey bee. A large slightly twisted ribbon arcs across the background of the mural adding a rainbow of color to the wall. All visitors to the shop who park in the lot (rather than street park) will be able to see this unobstructed artwork. For fans of this art, know that you can find other pieces by the duo around town, including up in Westfield (although the piece was a sculpture that is being moved for construction). Down on East Michigan near Mass Ave, a three story image of James Whitcomb Riley was painted. A giant pegboard mural featuring lots of tools is painted at the former Angie's List campus. And all around their studio, including the Posh Petals Floral shop and the patio "Butterflies" of Gallery Pastry Shop, are featured more of the team's work. Review #3328

A center named after one of the most influential people in our country's history, the MLK Center…read moreaims to replicate the vision of Dr Martin Luther King Jr in today's world. On the city's east side, the community center has so much to offer the Tarkington, Meridian area. I received a tour today and it was so inspiring to see the work that's being accomplished here. A center of education-they offer after school programs for school aged children for nearby school #43. They also offer childcare services. They have an amazing opportunity for teens to learn about technology in their Best Buy sponsored work lab. They offer teens who are interested in music and opportunity to learn about producing their own music! Such an awesome gem right here in the city! I wish they could spread their impact beyond the Tarkington-Meridian area, because so many more children could benefit from the work this center is doing!

This is a basic, but very nice mural, especially considering it was not painted by a professional…read moremuralist. It was actually painted by Butler student volunteers as part of the 2018 Bulldogs in the Streets. They worked in conjunction with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful. The mural was painted on the side on the MLK Center in Indianapolis and wraps around the side. It is definitely an upgrade from the mural that was there before. It has become the Center's trademark and is used in a lot of the Center's advertisements and marketing. The mural consists of the Words "MLK Center" in huge white block lettering and there is a black & white image of MLK waving. That is all against a bright red background, which draws your eye. The colors used by the students really complement each other and it is rally hard to miss. There is no wonder why the mural has been adopted as the face of the Center. The mural has a small bench centered right in the front of it and overlooks an area that they have made into a peace garden. If you want to park to get out and take a closer look, you can either park at the Center, once the construction is done, or you can do what I ended up doing and park across the street at the Park's parking lot. You should have no problem parking here. As with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is probably not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other wonderful murals in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

As others have mentioned I really like the 3D aspect, but it needs to been renovated soon before it hits the point of no return. The mural is the work of Jon Blice and Christopher Edwards, artistically known as Blice Edwards. They painted the piece in 2011. The mural is pretty busy and depicts a blooming flower with a lot of imagery that symbolizes the city's history such as "34" which represents 1834, the year Westfield was founded, the North Star which represents the underground railroad which went through the city, a shamrock, representing Westfield High School's mascot and "31" and "32", which represent the convergence of these two highways known as the "Grand Junction." There is a lot going on here and without context or very intimate knowledge of the city it is just a lot of stuff. The fading and deterioration just compounds the issue. I love the work of Blice Edwards as a whole, but I am really not too fond of this one. If you would like to get a closer look of this mural, there is street parking available in a reasonable walking distance and there are a few lots that you can park in as well. I recommend parking across the street to give you the best view because the mural is so large. As with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip such as the huge Pirate Cove mural down the street.

The mural seems to pop out at you from the north wall of the Union Street Flower & Gifts. So, it seems appropriate that the murals contains brightly colored flower petals and other shapes to reflect the purpose of the business inside. The mural was completed in 2011 by the artist team of (Jon) Blice (& Christopher) Edwards. They operate out of their offices just south of 54th Street in Broad Ripple and have done numerous murals around the Indy Metro area. Review #1209

The closest lot was full, but there was a second one that was accessible off Layman Avenue. What a surprise to see this large mural right in front of me! The mural features a recreation of Michelangelo's image of God from his famous center (ceiling) painting in the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican. In the painting, the hand of God reaches to the left towards Adam. In this mural, the hand is pointing towards the word "Irvington" which appears on a bright blue banner. The words "A Moveable Feast" appear in a smaller gray banner below the blue. (Not sure that I get that part.) The recreated image was painted by Michael McAuley (artist/sculptor) who wanted to suggest a Renaissance in Irvington. He selected Michelangelo as one of the best known artists of that time, and then this image from the Sistine Chapel to represent Michelangelo. Kind of a "connect the dots" way of selecting an image, but it is well worth it. Even as a reproduction, the talent of both artists is apparent in this exquisitely detailed mural. Anyone who has been keeping an eye on Irvington lately will let you know that there is a definite buzz in the area with all the new businesses filling in spaces along Washington Street and points near there. If you stop by for one of the shops/restaurants, take a moment to swing behind the buildings to check out this art installation. Review #2345

This is a tall sculpture located in the center of a Carmel roundabout. I saw it both during the day…read moreand the night and in my opinion, it is far more impressive at night than during the day. This piece stands 42 feet high, and is made of aluminum and steel. It is the work of Arlon Bayliss, who created the piece in 2019. It depicts 3 roses towering over the roundabout. It is very detailed and looks very realistic. I love the pink pedals and how they look like they are made of some type of sheer material. The sculpture also includes gold stems and silver leaves, wrapped in a ribbon. It is illuminated at night and looks amazing. It is rumored that if you look closely at the sculpture, you may find a bumblebee hidden among the flower petals. There are a few parking lots off of the roundabout that you can pull into, park, and get out to take a closer look. That is what I ended up doing. Just be carful doing so, as it is a very active roundabout. This is obviously not a destination piece or a long stop, but if you are in the area and near by, then it may be worthy of a quick visit. As with most sculptures (especially those located on roundabouts) that I visit, this was not a long stop. I was there about 5 minutes and I was out. I came across the sculpture by chance, driving to an appointment. I recommend making this part of a larger itinerary or a stop on your way somewhere else.

The shining steel roses rise above the lawn a towering 42' and are wrapped in a ribbon. According to the artist's statement, he hopes that the roses add beauty as well as bring Grace, Love, and Joy to the hearts of those who see it. P.S. There is a little surprise built into the sculpture that is hidden "in plain sight". If you like this installation, you can see another of Bayliss' work at 96th and Westfield Blvd (Beacon Bloom) in Carmel and another at the north end of Main Street in Speedway (Seeds of Light). Sometimes, you just need to slow down to really appreciate the beauty in life. I live only a mile…read moreand a half from this beautiful mural, and I know that I have gone by and seen it before. But I don't come this way often and when I have it, it's been while riding a bike. But recently, I've been much more into walking. I've also been much more into living deliciously and slowing down and appreciating moments for what they are and enjoying the beauty in life in all the ways that I can find it and experience it. So, as I rounded the corner and saw this amazing artwork, it stopped me in my tracks. I thought I might've scored a FTR, but when I went to look and see if it was on Yelp, the incomparable Ken N had already beat me to it! He beats all of us to them doesn't he? Sadly, I was never able to meet this incredible man. But I've heard a lot about him from the Yelp community. I'm honored to be the second to review when Ken N holds the FTR. I've seen so many other reviews of public art where it was only Ken N and one other prolific yelper. So I'm honored to have the opportunity to be in this elite group of "hidden art treasure" reviewers. Go read Ken's review because he has a lot of amazing information. For me, I wanted to simply absorb the artwork and also appreciate the special moment of being listed on a review with Ken N. It feels like truly such an honor.

When weather was warm enough to paint outdoors from fall 2020 to the spring of2021, several local…read moreartists headed by Koda Witsken of Hue Murals were commissioned by the town of Cumberland Indiana to paint the trail head area for Buck Creek Trail that runs under US40 just east of Cumberland. It had been prone to graffiti, though not visible from the highway, was a negative experience to users of the Buck Creek Trail for running, biking, and hiking. The highway is very wide and traffic can be heavy, so having this below street level area to cross is critical to getting the trail to be user friendly. A 4500 sq. foot mural has been completed and was recently dedicated. Other artists who assisted Koda were Megan Jefferson and Israel Solomon who are also local. The subject matter focuses on local flora and fauna, much of which is pictured at larger than life size. A fresh coat of white paint was initially placed so that the colors of the mural would be true. The finished mural has also been treated just incase more vandalism occurs, the clean up costs and restoration of the mural should be much easier (wise thinking!) Pull off parking is very limited especially along the busy highway, but there some areas on each side of the street that will allow a car to get off the road. the trailhead can be visited from both sides of the highway since it passes all the way under US40. Just be careful as you slow to look for a spot. I noticed the north side of the street has a neighborhood, but I am not sure if there are any restrictions on street parking there. Review #3924
