As a long-time Route 66 adventurer, there are a handful of outstanding must-stops in each state. In Illinois, Funks Grove Pure Maple Sirup (not syrup) has been our number one stop on every Route 66 excursion we have made in Illinois.
This sirup beats Vermont and Canadian syrups hands down. There is no comparison to any other. The only problem is that every time somebody else discovers this incredible secret, that means there is less available.
The sirup is usually available from March through August, before the Funks run out of inventory.
Additionally, in the gift shop on the premises, there are multiple products made with their maple sirup as well as many Route 66 tourist trinkets. Many years ago, I bought the Route 66 Map series there.
Oh, and you don't have to go there to buy their sirup; they have an online store. The difference is that in person, you get your sirup in glass, and online, it arrives in plastic. read more
